Thank you! I learned of the existence of a piecaken this week and while I love to bake I doubt I’ll be trying this. Too much of a good thing IMO
FCM I honestly don’t remember what my user name used to be. Might have been Velvet Jones. It’s been about 12 or so years. No idea why I took such a long break but here I am. I was mostly a lurker anyway. But I did attend one in person meet up in Winter Park, FL. That was probably like 2008 or so.
There’s plenty of Maryland above Baltimore. Ask any child traveling south on 95–“OooOOH, we’re only down to Rising Sun?!”
Thrilling events here at casa paint. Folding laundry, and I noticed something weird. I have many button down collar flannel shirts. All of the right buttons were undone. Only the right side ones. This was like 6 shirts.
unknown Boo to the bad traffic. I always hated the bit of 95/495 in Maryland and around DC when I was doing the drive from Maine or NY to NC. And, wow! 10k miles in 3 years? That’s remarkably little.
Piecaken sounds tasty, but too much.
Holy frick. The guys upstairs, usually so quiet, are having a knock-down-drag-out fight, literally. I hear furniture thudding to the floor. At least, I hope it’s furniture. Still two voices, so they’re both alive. Lots of stomping around, and one of them yelling the F-bomb. I’m kind of reluctant to leave to go to the store in case I need to dial 911. This has been going on for an hour. Definitely not typical for them.
I’d probably call anyway if it’s been going that long, just to make sure the population up there stays at two.
OK, right after I typed that, the older one left. I watched out the window to make sure he wasn’t physically hurt, but I couldn’t really tell. He walked around the complex in a tee shirt, no coat (It’s 43ºF) for a few minutes. The stomping upstairs continued, but after he came back, it quieted down. Still lots of stomping, but no furniture crashing, so I guess it’s OK to leave.
I hope I don’t sound like a snoop. I just worry someone’s going to get hurt. We had a bad DV incident across the hall several years ago, so maybe this building is jinxed.
Sorry I’m so full of this and not responding to posts. I’ll be better after a while.
Many years ago, I was stitching a large gauge floor pillow and my cat climbed on my lap. She was being good so I ignored her and kept stitching. All was good until I tried to turn my canvas over and saw that I had sewn my cat to the back. She wasn’t nearly as cooperative with the unstitching process.
FCM, cute coasters and I also agree that $5 for a set is a good price.
I’ve finished everything on my friend’s piece that needs thinking, so now I’m just cruising along. There’s still beading to do but that doesn’t really involve thinking, it’s just painful because I have to use sharp needles.
Indeed!
My UGGs last about 10 years a pair which works out to about half of what buying a cheap pair of knockoffs a year would cost.
If things are loud enough to worry you, you aren’t snooping, they are forcing you to be a witness. I’m glad one of them walked away for a while. That is usually a sign that some semblance of control has been maintained.
Last night we had to go burgers and fries, but couldn’t really get any pics because the workers had hung plastic sheets to contain the dust. I’ve been told that the rafters were not damaged and an electrician has been up there replacing the wiring. It’s an old building and has changed hands many times, so much of what the electrician is doing is just trying to figure out what was done by everyone before him.
Hubs cooked beer today and says he’s going to cook again on Thursday because he’s found a new strain of yeast that is super fast and does what he wants so new toy!
I need to come up with a desert to take with us, otherwise Mom is going to want to go and buy something. Normally, I’d be up for that, but I don’t shop on holidays.
LOL! Now I’m flashing back to all of the drives as a kid from our North Jersey relatives to our home in the Baltimore ‘burbs: passing the sign for Rising Sun meant we only had another hour to go.
Two months after I bought the car, the pandemic started and I began working from home. It’s a little annoying that my “3 years or 30,000 miles” warranty will expire in January even though I couldn’t really go anywhere for the first year I had the car, but whatever. It felt like a big deal when the odometer finally hit five digits!
Don’t be sorry…yikes! I’m glad things seem to have quieted down!
The party was nice, and the vegan with the feral kids didn’t come. She texted that she didn’t feel well, but Daughter thinks she just forgot. Which was fine.
I think everyone had lunch before coming - they hardly ate anything. But it was a good gathering, and they all left before 4.
FCD’s aunt is getting close and she’ll call when it starts getting dark so we can help her to their hotel. My sweetie will ride with them and I’ll follow, with a brief detour to WalMart before picking him up. So that will be my evening.
I’s tahred and I are too much. Apart from the rescue ride, I plan to crochet the night away
Howdy Y’all! We deheathenated, had a sammich N.O.L., achieved nappage, slothed around, day drank out on the back porch (BRRR! It’s 47 Amurrkin, cloudy and windy out) and I have taken the biiiiiiiiiiiiiig trash can all the way down to the road for pickup tomorrow. That’s enough for one day. Soon the garage door is comin’ down and we shall hermit for the rest of the evenin’.
Nellie sorry about your tooth or whatever is so sore and glad the neighbors have calmed down somewhat.
FlyBoy that sounds like a fun trip. Enjoy!
JtC glad y’all supported the restaurant folks. Hope they can be up and runnin’ soonest. Make brownies to take. They travel well, plus I like brownies so you can think of me whilst munchin’ away.
VanGo I have noticed collar buttons sometimes like to do that. Maybe that’s how they get their kicks.
Oopsie glad you had a good visit with your aunts. Also glad you can now eat some of your favorite foods again.
MOOOOOOM glad the partay went well. I enjoy company, comin’ and goin’. Glad the feral young’uns didn’t show up. That’s nice of y’all to guide FCD’s aunt to their hotel. I’m sure the in-laws will be happy to see them.
Both computers (and my iPhone, of course) are on Find My. I’ve turned the password on, to log onto both computers. I need to lock my iPhone. The Missus will have hers, so I can lock mine. Also, I’m packed. I think. Probably taking too many clothes, but I don’t want to be without clean underwear and a set of ‘nice’ clothes.
I found not only all of the stuff for the candy cane reindeer in the kid box, but an extra box of candy canes. That means that I won’t have to hit the store to buy some more.
Given the madhouse that Tar-jay and Dollar Tree were yesterday, I’m not even going to the grocery store to shop in person next weekend. I got an InstaCart discount code in the mail last week featuring their new pick up service. For a $40 off $80 coupon, I can drive to the Pubic Sto’ or Kroger and let someone else shop for me.
Evening all. Pretty much a Do-Little day, short nap and going out to eat was about the sum of it. Got news that two passengers on the Cruise ship I’m supposed to be on in February in Antarctica died when their small boat flipped over Didn’t make me reconsider but was a bit of a shock.
Now beginning my travel list to the St. Louis area to see Brother and his family, need to gas up car and make my packing list so I can get on the road early Wednesday–coming back on Sunday. Have mail and newspaper shut off, and need to let neighbors know.
Sari, hope things warm up around the house by tonight; maybe consider a hotel for the evening if it gets too cold?
FCM, glad the party went well.
nellie, hope they worked out whatever the problem was without working each other over; I think you played it just about right.
Have read all but retained little, so assorted hugs, tears, grins and silly jokes are as required. Take care all and I’ll catch you on the next MMP.
Thai food tonight. Yum nua (five stars) and tom kha gai (four stars) for me, and crab rangoon, potstickers, and butterfly shrimp for mi esposa. I did have a snotpicker, and it was good. The beef salad was nice and spicy. The soup… Did it actually have peppers in it?
Still chilly here.
Now that the sun is gone, I’m sure it’s going to get worse.
The heater Barky’s mom brought over stopped putting out heat. My son is looking at videos now to see what to do. I think it may need a new filter.
Nope, this model doesn’t have a filter but the video says to vacuum the vents, so that is what he’s doing.
And it worked.
Thank you for the info Hippie. I think that is what needs to be done, but my son is not confident about doing it himself. It’s still about 60 in the house, so no danger of frozen pipes or anything.
I debated running out to best buy and getting a few portable heaters.
They have some that are only $30, but then I’ll have a bunch of heaters that I don’t need.
I’m trying to get rid of stuff, not collect more of it.
I washed clothes just so I can run the dryer, that puts out heat too.
I would consider a hotel MetalMouse if it were only Ripple and Echo. They behave. Cerby would probably bark his fool head off and get us kicked out.
I think the Piecakens look good.
sari, since it’s been so cold this weekend, my heat / AC unit hasn’t really kept the place toasty, so I’ve made a point to bake something each day, even if it’s only a sweet potato. That may be an option for you tomorrow until you can get the furnace fixed.
OK, back from the store and all is quiet on the upstairs front. I think they’re both gone. Hopefully they survive the holiday and return as friends and lovers again. I just want people to be reasonably happy and completely nonviolent. Is that too much to ask? (I think that’s a rhetorical question.) Thanks for being so understanding, everyone.
My daughter called just as I got to the store. We always have such good, long talks. She even helped me find the cranberry sauce. We said goodbye just as I started to check out. The cashier told me his life story and complete medical history. Luckily, he’s only 20, so the people after me didn’t have to wait too long.
I LOVE all the cat stories and dog stories. They should have their own category: the Mutt-Dane Pointer Sniffs I Must Share.* What would be the cat equivalent? I bet they’d all have a lot of stories to tell about their humans.
FCM, I’m with those who think you should sell the coasters for a little more. I think people are willing to pay more when it’s for a good cause, plus those cat butts are cute and unusual. However you price them, I hope you sell them all. Glad the party went well. By his next birthday, the Tobester will be talking up a storm! Oh, the “vegan with feral kids” line cracked me up.
Flyboy, thought of you at the store. I had to get foil: the store brand was $12 for 200 ft!
JtC, how does one discover a new strain of yeast? Is there a Yeasts R Us store about, or is hubs the Alexander Fleming of the beer world? What I don’t know about beer-making could fill a keg. My nephew used to make beer. He won contests and was even a judge. Now he has two daughters, and the only bottles he fills have nipples on top.
I never thought of that, but wow, everyone who bought a car when you did is in the same boat sedan
Oo, I love that name! It sounds like a character from a James Bond movie, or maybe a late night DJ.
Sonny Boy should be calling any minute. See you all tomorrow!
You’ll need to look at Google maps to appreciate this if you don’t know the roads in Southern Merrylande. Aunt B was supposed to come off the DC beltway at exit 7, Route 5, and stay on 5 until it turned into 235 in Mechanicsville, then follow 235 into Lexington Park to their hotel. Easy, right? For a short stretch, 5 and 301 run together, then one turns left to follow 5. Aunt B missed that turn, and continued on 301, and called us asking about the toll and the Nice Bridge.
That’s the bridge over the Potomac into Virginia. We got them to go to the MD Welcome Center just north of the bridge and we met them there. FCD drove their van and Aunt B rode with me and we took them to their hotel.
This is where they were supposed to go. If you follow 301 to Newburg, that’s where we met them. They have GPS - they just didn’t turn it on, preferring written directions, which they didn’t quite follow.
But they’re safely at their hotel and we’re home, exhausted. Chillage shall now ensue.
Glad for everyone’s tom kha, heat, and unmisplaced relatives.
