Cake Day - A Sweet Treat in the MMP

I like both.

You are hereby ordered to stand down and quit worrying (at least about me, I’m doing fine, worry about someone who needs it–I’ll let you know if I need worrying about–promise).

And some strange habits you married people have…then again, my bachelor life would probably bring about comments…and perhaps the need for swampy’s faintin’ couch…

nellie, hope the surgery can be scheduled and Medicare does right by you.

I have no idea if my Sis-in-Law bastes the turkey or not; it tastes good and that is the critical part to me.

OK, Garbage is out along with the recyclables so all that is needed is medication and sleep. All y’all have a good night and morning and I’ll catch you on Thorsday.

Snerts. Snorts. Cracks up. You bachelor guy sure do have funny ideas about women, LOLOL!

I am glad you are feeling better. Other Mumpers haven’t been so lucky. I spent a few days last week with a low grade headache and a dry cough. I got better.

The diner where I got my start as a professional cheese maker caught fire tonight. They had to close down because they were out of money and tried to start up as a weekend place for hamburgers and fries. I heard they were pretty good but they were closed today so there is much gossip about how the fire started in the dining room.

I am pretty sure the gossip is wrong cause the owners live on site (they also own the motel and RV park) and have been doing everything they can to keep the diner open. I’m pretty sure they wouldn’t want a burnt down diner in the middle of all that.

Hubs got so distracted about the constant texts that he pulled a five gallon bucket of mead out of the closet to decant into smaller bottles to clear. It doesn’t matter how careful we are, we will still end up feeling sticky from the honey. That’s just fine, we weren’t planning on doing anything else tomorrow anyhow.

Let’s just hope George doesn’t decide to “help”. Sounds like that would be unpleasant to get out of his fur.

I’d be more worried about keeping the George fur out of the mead. I have priorities!

Being a non-drinker, I worry more about the cat :). Also hoping he doesn’t decide to sample adult beverages, being that he’s still a kitten.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. I wonder what TVCTPMO has in store for me.

Well, if it did get mixed, you could always market the resulting George Meade as an homage to the commander of The Army of the Potomac. :cat:

Buddy’s on my lap, and just produced a burp that would have been impressive for a human.

Wow - I slept till nearly 5:30! And if Tobias wasn’t on my agenda for today, I’d have stayed in bed a bit longer. I feel almost rested. That won’t last, tho. Daughter has a meeting with the parents of a prospective student so she’ll be late today. I’ll just take the kids home and hope she gets there before it gets dark. Tuesday, I had to drive home in the dark and the rain - NOT a good experience for me, tho knowing the route really well helped. Anyway, that’s for later.

I think I have the next several days figured out, but I have to write down what needs to be done when to avoid forgetting something. I just now decided that I can use the little crockpot to serve the pulled poke for the b-day party - that will make things easier. Add that to the list.

FCD is taking his folks to sign their wills and POAs this morning, then he has a Dr appt this afternoon. I need to have blood drawn first thing tomorrow (note to self - don’t eat breakfast tomorrow!!) because I see the Dr next Firday. I’ve already finished 2 hats for the school fundraiser, and I think I’ll start on some coaster sets. It’ll either be 4 cat butt coasters or 4 sunflower coasters. Maybe I’ll come up with a third design. These should go quickly and I think a set of 4 should sell for $5. Not sure how to price the hats yet, and I have yet to mess with any finger puppets.

But for now, caffeination continues and it’s just starting to get light outside - thus beginneth my day.

Happy Thursday!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 40 Amurrkin out and mostly cloudy with a predicted high of 55 and N.O.S. for the day. We have a FREEZE WARNING in effect for tonight. I’s supposed to get down to 30 Amurrkin. BRRR! We shall take a turkey over to the church house today as we volunteered to donate one for the TDay baskets bein’ made up tomorrow. Since that needs to happen, I will also take care of candle duty and a couple other things whilst there. Then we shall go to the hog trough Golden Corral for today’s main feed. After that we can sloth, nap, day drink and be useless knowin’ we have done our good deed. OK, we’d do that even if we hadn’t done a good deed.

MetalMouse may your crud be gone today.

Nellie here’s a link for chikin ‘n dressin’ I make from the Mumper recipe blog. Maybe someone else has a good stuffin’ recipe. Hope this is helpful. Heck, if nuttin’ else, you now have a link to the blog if you didn’t already.

JtC leave hubby to himself Turkey Day if he wants to eat leftovers and kill stuff. Sounds like he’d have a rip roarin’ time doin’ that and mom and you can enjoy yourselves at the Mensa thing. Or slap him upside the haid and make him come. I’m good either way.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, bother of bothers, I suppose I must purtify and don attire appropriate for bein’ amongst the great unwashed for a second day in a row. How I suffer!

Happy Thursday Y’all!

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s 9c/47f with a predicted high of 9.2c/48f and rain showers. Weather app says “Rain is tiny wet douchebags falling from the fucking sky” - I’d agree with that! It was barely raining at all this morning when I took Ophelia to the vet for her tests. They took some blood to check her thyroid levels so they’ll ring me with the results later. They also checked her blood pressure which has dropped quite a bit, to the point where it’s now almost too low so they advised reducing one of her medications.

She was chilled out as usual, and almost dozed off on the nurse’s lap while they were doing the BP test. She also got some fuss from her favourite vet. All seems good at the moment, and she has stuffed her face since we got home because she couldn’t have any food from about 9.30pm last night. The other cats weren’t pleased at the lack of food this morning either so I had to do some supervised feeding for Shadow and Whisper downstairs and clear the bowls away as soon as they’d finished. 'im indoors had the important job of feeding them properly as soon as I’d left the house.

More exams and assessment trauma today for me. The PSWSLNS must have made their presence felt, the Exams Officer was very apologetic for causing a misunderstanding in the first place. Luckily it was a fairly easy fix in the end but I could have done without it. On the plus side, I am booked on a spin class later today so I can get rid of some frustrations in the gym, and I have leftover chilli for dinner so cooking will be minimal.

There were 3 deer in our back yard, noshing on whatever deer eat. I’m guessing they’ll also fertilize the yard. I’m further guessing that Higgs will nosh on the fertilizer, because that’s what she does. Idiot dog.

Good morning everyone.

It’s currently 29 degrees and cloudy/foggy with an expected high of 49 and sunny skies.

I have read but retained little. I spent the last two days in the office, so I tried to catch up, but failed miserably.

nellie, I’m glad the spare contacts arrived and that you now have the info you need for Medicare.

I’m glad you’re feeling better, Metal Mouse.

I’ve done turkey with and without the roasting bag. I don’t really baste, and I do mix up herbs and butter and rub it between the skin and meat. I am also bad and evil and put some stuffing in my bird. I don’t over stuff, but put enough in relative to the bird and to ensure proper temps and doneness occur. I bake the rest of the stuffing/dressing in a pan.

I make sausage stuffing. I season the sausage with sage and other herbs and seasonings and saute it until it’s done and make sure there are some nice caramel bits in it. I use a mixture of Jimmy Dean breakfast and sage sausage. I drain all that from the pan and then saute onions and celery. After that’s cooked a little I add some chopped apples and let that cook a little. Finally, I add chopped dried apricot and craisins and let them puff/cook a bit. I pour the herbed bread crumb (like small cubes) into a really big metal bowl and dump the meat mixture and sauteed fruit and vegetable mixture to that. I stir it all up, and add heated chicken or turkey broth a little bit at a time. I add a bit at a time because I hate a gluey mixture, but I hate dry dressing too. It always turns out nicely and I’m asked to bring it every year to my kids’ place when they host and I am REQUIRED to make it if I host. I don’t measure, I just cook. I’ve been making it long enough that it’s just memory muscle.

I don’t really like turkey and refuse to make it unless I am hosting Thanksgiving. I make a good turkey, but just don’t really care for it and never have. I always feel vaguely ill after eating some. I am really hoping I don’t need to host this year. The past few years, the kids have hosted Thanksgiving, and I’ve hosted Christmas.

Honestly, if the kids weren’t around, I’d probably treat Thanksgiving like any other day. As a kid (after my parents divorced), we always spent T-giving at a family friend’s house. When I was a teenager, I wasn’t home because I always traveled to San Francisco and then the San Bernadino mountains for a regional conference. It was a lot of fun! Once I got married, the MiL hosted T-giving, and I brought dishes and helped as much as she’d let me. Once she became too ill, I started hosting. And finally, as mentioned above, my daughter and son-in-law have often hosted.

Tomorrow is my RDO and I’m really hoping that I’m not doing anything this weekend. The last few weekends have turned out busier than I thought they would be and I’d just like to relax a little before we go into full holiday mode.

Lots on the work agenda today, but at least I’m working from home. I hope the day goes by quickly.

I hope you all have a terrific day.

Good morning all. Rose about 8am so another good night’s sleep and no coughing when I got up, so I’m pronouncing myself better (albeit I’ll still pack Kleenex if I go out). Will try to get to the gym today and ease back into my exercise routine, it’s a lovely looking day outside but only getting up to 44F and heading back down to 24F tonight.

Taters, here’s to a relaxing pre-holiday.

:musical_note:It’s the Circle of LIfe :musical_note:

Boo fae, glad Ophelia check out went well; the Vets probably appreciate a mellow lady like her after some of their clients…

Yes Ma’am. But as noted above, I am doing much better. Glad you are too. And sorry to hear about the diner, hope those folks can recover.

OK, back to internettin’ and things, then off to the gym for pedaling bicycles nowhere. Take care all.

Tobias and I went to the thrift store. I scored 10 assorted pants for him. At a buck a pair, such a deal!

He’s snarfing down a pseudo quesadilla ( cheddar melted on a tortilla) then he’ll get a bottle and, with luck, a nap. Then I can have lunch. With luck…

I’m walking to the dentist in a bit, about 3 miles each way. I actually enjoy the walk. However, though it was only a little misty when I got up, it’s now full-on foggy. I may wear the safety vest Dopers suggested I buy a few years ago.

Thanks for the stuffing suggestions! I like both recipes and am feeling braver.

Moooom, deer droppings are why I used to get mad at deer for using my yard as a toilet/convention center. The droppings are high in nitrogen and burned the grass. I guess if I’d raked the stuff so it wasn’t in piles, it would have been good fertilizer. I never did because the flies liked the scat, and I didn’t like the flies. And somehow, my running outside and yelling, “Don’t you dare poop!” didn’t deter the deer, though it did entertain the neighbors. I could have used that Higgs vacuum cleaner.

BooFae, Ophelia is the first cat I ever heard of who enjoyed going to the vet. I’m impressed! My dogs hated it. My big Lab would try to hide behind the folding chair in the exam room. I don’t know why they hated it. They got lots of treats, and the staff fawned over the critters. Glad the exam stuff got sorted.

I love a good carrot cake, but “good” has to entail a moderate amount of sugar. One reason I eat so little of it is that the cake, especially the frosting, is sickly sweet.

I have trouble pronouncing Hatshepsut. So I’ve made myself something to help me.

Imgur

So all those Blueberries they hired? They must not have showed up today. They pulled me and all the experienced people out of Smalls, and sent us to Primary sort. The I went to Seconday Sort. Then the Mez. The the 300 table. Then pulling for the Boxline. Guess it was arm day.

If I had that, somebody would bark themselves into a stroke.

That’s a Shining example of what not to wear.

TMI man, TMI

Glad you’re feeling better.

Oh no. I hope everyone is ok. Do you have other customers for the cheese?

I have vivid memories of helping my mom bathe our cat when I was a kid. We went into battle covered head to toe in jackets, heavy pants, gloves. Panther managed to get his licks in anyway.

Moommm I vote flowers not cat butts. :sunflower:

BooFae whatever happened with the extra cat that was coming inside?

My dogs will roll in it. :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

Today’s excitement includes an order from Costco and a giant helping of putting things off until tomorrow. My head is still screaming at me.

Hugs to everyone. Happy Thursday!
