Cake Day - A Sweet Treat in the MMP

Howdy Y’all! Thought I’d sneak in an afternoon post. We did the thangs over to the church house, stuffed ourselves at the hog trough GC, and have achieved nappage. We may or may not day drink. We’re willy-nilly that way. I played turkey Jenga in the freezer at the church house this mornin’. There has to be at least twenty turkeys stuffed in the freezer! If any more are brought today or tomorrow, they will have to go into the fridge. Yay for generous turkey donors! The pee-kahn trees are also really doin’ their thang this year. There were five five gallon buckets full sittin’ the church kitchen with many more that need to be gathered. There will be a gatherin’ of pee-kahns on Sattidy mornin’ for a couple of hours. We, or at least me, may go participate. It’s not so hard to do that for a couple of hours with a pee-kahn roller thingy. Now we continue sloth.

Nellie forgot to say yay for the spare contact. Like Taters I pretty much go by taste and don’t really measure when I make dressin’. Most really good dressin’/stuffin’ is done that way from what I have seen and observed over the years. It’s a you know when you got it right thing.

BooFae glad Lady Ophelia checked out OK at the vet and that no cats were starved to death in the process.

I am less concerned with deer poop than I am with suicidal deer. Lots of woods around me and the main road into town can be fraught with suicidal deer. This also true in the area the church is in as 'tis very woodsy out that way as well.

MOOOOOOM yay on the thrift score find. Of course the Tobester will probably grow out of some of those pants before he even wears 'em. He looks like he has really grown in the past few months.

No walking today. I spent about 20 minutes getting wood from around the shed and stacking it in the catio. I brought some chunks inside, and there’s still some wood at the side of the wood shed.

Mrs. L.A. got me my Christmas present early; a wood pile cover. It’s very nice, but she got it too big. The stack on the deck is 8’ x 4’ x ~18", and the cover is 8’ x 5’ x 24". I put it on the stack, and it’s a bit baggy; but it will keep the wood dry.

Speaking of covers, I’ve zipped up the canopy garage (I’m probably not taking the MG out) and parked the Jeep in front of it.

Busy at irk the past day and a half. Had a project. Now it’s slowed to a virtual stop. I need to research and submit a report correction to Big Credit Reporting Agency, but that won’t take too long.

That just means you need more wood. :rimshot:

I’ve got wood!

My thermostat claimed it was 156 degrees outside when I got home from work. Perhaps time to re-charge the batteries.

Did you change the scale from °F to Kelvin??

We’ll have 17 total for Tobias’ B-day party - glad I got a lot of snackies. His other grandmother will be here with her 2 step-grands, SIL’s sister is coming with her 2 kids (both teens), plus some friends of Daughter and their 3 kids, and all of us. Tomorrow, I’ll clean the basement and put the treadmill and bike in my studio. And I’ll do laundry while I’m cleaning, because why not?

And so it begins…

I see what you did there.

Are we in campaign season for King of TMI?

Um, maybe time to move off the surface of the light side of the Moon?

The fog burned off, and it turned into a gorgeous day. I walked over 8 miles and am officially tired. I got an A+ at the dentist. They hardly had to scrape my teeth, and my gums looked good. It makes all the tedious flossing, sonic toothbrushing, and water-picking worth it, plus all the money I’ll hopefully save on dental work.

Or maybe you took a wrong turn and ended up on Mercury. Do you feel lighter? Are your sneakers getting a little melty around the edges?

I may have already done that in July, when I posted pics of my hand after the last time I was whacking my wood.

Evening all. Pretty much a do-nothing day, some of the head cold migrated to the chest, so I need to cough/sneeze that out in the next day or so, no problem but didn’t make the gym. Did get a good nappage and did clean the kitchen and solve the NY times crossword (well, 98.8% of it) and various other puzzles, so the brain is still working well. Evening will be internettin’ and checking in on the tackleball game, since I have Amazon Prime I might as well get some use out of it…

nellie, good news on the teeth; I really do need to take better care of mine, my next appointment is in January and I do worry a bit on what they’ll find each time I go there.

VanGo, that’s a bit warm, even for me. Hopefully the batteries are all that is wrong with it.

FCM, hope the party goes well–that + T-Giving should be more than enough to take a vacation somewhere.

Swampy, do you donate/sell those pecans? Just thinking of the number of pecan pies that would make…. And playing Turkey Jenga made me think about the Turkeys and the Colombian Air Force…but that’s a story for another day.

OK, cheeburger is digesting happily and I’m sucking on a Vick Cough drop, so all is well at Casa Rat. All y’all take care now.

JtC, your mention of the eggplant in the food box made me hungry for it. I may have to get some to do something with this weekend.

Mooooom, it’s been a few years since I’ve done a turkey, but generally either followed my mom’s method of roasting one in a brown paper bag or put butter and herbs under the breast skin, an onion / other vegetation in the cavity for moisture and came out OK without basting.

Glad you’re feeling better metal mouse.

Good for Ophelia’s good checkup BooFae.

I’m trying to remember what your church does with the pecans once gathered swampy. Don’t you sell them for a fundraiser?

Irked with more old + locked tech today. I also had to train a couple of more people how to wipe android phones, since one of the ones who did it yesterday took off on vacation today and the other threatened to walk out if she had to do it again. Next week, I’ll have the joy of manually resetting a couple of hundred old school flip phones. These have to be being sold in third world countries, given that some of them are 3G.

I’ve been asked by the niece who invited me up to her new house for Thanksgiving to make corn pudding. It was always one of her favorites when she was a kid and her kids always asked for it when they were growing up. It’s an easy side dish and travels well for the hour+ it will take to get to her house. She also invited Nelson to come with, since she has a fenced in back yard and two little doggos who get along with him.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

I cooked some ground beef with taco seasoning. One of Wifey, RN’s patients gave her some tortillas, and I thought we might have tacos dorados tonight. Her last patient today was at 16 o’clock. She said it would be a quick visit (an assessment), but I don’t expect her until about five.

Edit: Oh! I just saw her pull in.

Dang it. Now that’s stuck in my head. :unamused:

@purplehorseshoe Hey! How are you doing? Eating? Sleeping? Just checking in. [ hugs ]

Good job! :star:

I am now on Team Worried. Maybe you should call your doctor’s office. You’ve had this for awhile and it’s progressing in bad ways…

Last night we tried a Hawai’ian BBQ place. It was quite good and we enjoyed our selection of food. Tonight we’ll have leftovers and tomorrow will be salmon.

Which reminds me that I heard more dams are being removed (Klamath). This is great news for salmon and for the resident orcas.

Happy Thorsday!

Cold morning at the park. My phone said 34 degrees with a wind chill of 27, Rocky mom’s phone said 27 degrees with a wind chill of 20.
Either way, it was cold.

My three didn’t do much, they were still worn out from daycare yesterday. They slept all night, and have slept most of today.
A tired dog is a good dog.
Cerby was really out of it last night. He is so lucky I looked before getting up. He was lying on his back with his legs spread, right next to the bed. I would have stepped on his belly. Usually as soon as I move, he is in my face, not today.

He got a little barky at the park. One day when my son was down in the pavilion with us, his phone was reflecting light on the ceiling. Cerby still looks for the lights and barks.
What cracked me up, Barky mom was correcting him… while her dogs were barking. I really don’t care if others correct him, as long as he figures it out and shuts up.
However, the situation did make me, and others, kind of snicker.

We finally got Adam in and are making him stay in. It’s too cold outside and he needs to get over himself. Cerby is afraid of him, so his ‘I’m so scared of the new dog’ bullshit needs to stop.
Cerby will chase him if he runs, but as soon as he stops, Cerby is heading the other way.

I’d be surprised to see deer in my yard. Lots of possums though, and they are bad enough.

I haven’t made stuffing in years. I don’t remember how I made it though, I think I looked at a recipe and winged it. Measuring and cooking at the same time is too much irk for me.
I really am lazy.
I ordered groceries for Thanksgiving today. We’ll pick them up Moonday. Nothing I have to cook, just heat in the microwave. I got Marie Callanders and Hungry Man turkey dinners, in case they are out of one, we can have the other. If we get both, well, they’ll get eaten. I got my son some cranberry sauce and a pumpkin pie, and some store brand mashed potatoes.
When I put turkey in the search engine, wouldn’t you know, Turkey Hill ice cream came up first. I took it as an omen, and ordered a carton of Mystery Flavor, and one of Triple Chocolate.

Cerby is on both Prozac and Trazodone. I’m waiting for him to settle in a bit more, and when his scripts are close to needing a refill, I’m going to take him in for a checkup and talk to the vet. His other vets are supposed to have forwarded his records to my vet. I’d like to know what they say. The first vet said he should be put down. The second put him on drugs. We’ll see what my vet says. I’d like to wean him off everything. Thanks for the info though Nellie, I don’t like the idea of making his body slow while his mind is still racing. That sounds cruel.
Today is four weeks that we have had him, and he has changed quite a bit. I think going to the park every day has helped, and my friends there know his issues and are working with him too. He has gotten so much friendlier and more confident.
My son still wants to find another home for him, but he says we are probably the best home he has had. He was hoping Niece1 and her husband would take him back, but now he says we’re a better home and he should stay with us.

you’re so bad LOL

I’m a little bad… :cat:

We’re going to Ocean City for our anniversary weekend next month. So there’s that.

Watching hockey, then swtiching to handegg. Having a Negroni with Italain chciken and orzo.

Guess Cerby grows on people. Much like Gordie.

“As God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly” - Colombian air Force spokesman

They were a special treat for us too. Mom was active in the PTA so on meeting nights she left us with TV dinners and a can of Spam. Dad would have lived on canned spam and fried eggs if she would have let him, so he got a treat too.

GG has gotten pretty good about sitting on his stool and watching what’s going on. Hubs is the one who’s bad about it, though. He never remembers to pull GG’s stool over so he just complains until I realize what is going on and go out and get GG’s stool for him.

The five gallon bucket has been strained and reduced to 3 one gallon jugs to clarify. It was pretty tasty today but still needs a month or so to mellow out.

After that was done, I thought I’d make some walnut and date bars but couldn’t find the vanilla. I knew we had some because we couldn’t find it a couple of weeks ago and hubs bought a new bottle. That means there are two bottles somewhere in that cabinet. Hubs looked for it and couldn’t find the new bottle, but did find the old bottle. All is good, right? Nope, I started putting things together and couldn’t find the baking powder.

We now have two bottles of vanilla and two cans of baking powder. Hopefully we will be able to find at least one next time we need it.

I seriously considered that option, but nah. If he wants to stay home and eat leftovers, that’s what he can do. I won’t feel at all sorry for him…but I probably will bring him some treats anyhow.

We don’t do much for Christmas or other holidays, but Thanksgiving is the one holiday we do kinda observe. Mostly because we rarely have a good excuse to make an elaborate meal like that and it’s fun once in a while.

It is very sad. I’ve learned that the fire started in the attic over the dining room, so that’s most likely a wiring issue. The kitchen wasn’t involved and I’ve heard that they will be doing to-go hamburgers and fries until the dining room can reopen.

No body was hurt, thank goodness. I’ve seen pics and it’s a big mess but it doesn’t look like the structure was damaged. They stopped buying my cheese when they had to cut their menu down the the very basics. I’m now reduced to selling vegan mozzarella to the pizza joint the next town over.

My AC really struggles when it gets that hot.

Uh huh. How long has it been? This is starting to sound really familiar. :frowning:

I call them my grab boxes. I was a sucker for grab bags when I was a kid and I guess I haven’t grown up yet. It’s always fun to see what’s in them, and I do my best to find ways to use what we get.

Hubs is so weird, he won’t eat purple or blue food. I don’t think he even knows he’s refusing to eat it because he will put it on his plate but I’ll end up scraping it off into the trash when I clean up. If I peel eggplant, he eats it and says it’s good.

That sounds like just the sort of Thanksgiving you want, so it’s going to be a good day for you! If I was a nice wife, I would get hubs a Marie Callander dinner as well. I’ll think about it.

Hmmmm. I was gearing up for a quick walk to a nearby convenience store (too close to be worth bothering with the car). DH was concerned enough about this to insist that my pepper spray and Maglite make the trip with me. He normally isn’t that anxious about such things, and local news hasn’t said anything about unusual problems in our admittedly not great neighborhood.

Amazingly, the clerk didn’t even blink at a middle-aged woman wearing a hi-vis reflector vest. I do not trust the “drivers” in this part of town, and want them to have as little excuse as possible to claim they didn’t see me.
