Thank you!
O.k. that’s nearly incomprehensible to me, but thanks!
I love horchata. That might be enough to overcome my aversion to oreos.
No “likely”, definitely. Marzipan doesn’t even originate anywhere in Europe, but it definitely doesn’t originate as late as 15th C. Lübeck.
I take my almonds any way I can get them - marzipan, frangipane, blamange, macarons, calissons, amaretto (both kinds)
The Glücksschwein is the best use of marzipan, though.
Is there something special about the marzipan in it? It just looks like a pig made from marzipan.
The special thing is that it’s considered a lucky charm.
O.k. so it’s not like it has a secret heart of chocolate then.
Exactly. It’s just plain marzipan molded and painted to look like a pig, a lucky pig.
ETA: around the turning of the year, candy (not only marzipan) in the form of lucky charms are always popular in Germany: horse shoes, chimney sweepers, four-leaf clovers, you name it.
For our Jewish and Muslim friends who might not fancy a pig (cf. also the Christmas peppermint pig).
