Closing my thread was rude and unnecessary

I posted a thread about 200 or so celebrities that used their private jets to attend a summit to figure out climate change - here.

I thought about which sub forum to put it in. Maybe MPSIMS or IMHO, but no, its about the entertainment industry - so cafe society, thinks me.

Chronos disagrees and thinks the BBQ pit. I really did not mean for a pit thread.

But here’s the thing, this is not an offensive or weird thread. Re-open it and move it where you think it belongs.

Where you having a hard day?

Prince Harry is best known as an entertainer?

Ha, interesting question. I would give an opinion, but this is probably not the right sub forum.

His OP says celebrities, not just entertainers. Not all celebrities are entertainers. For that matter not all entertainers are celebrities.

It was not about the entertainment industry. It was about ranting about liberal hypocrisy. Ranting about liberal hypocrisy (like all ranting) belongs in the BBQ Pit. I could have moved it there, but I decided that it would be a better lesson on where to put threads in the future if I closed it. The lesson apparently isn’t sinking in.

You shouldn’t have written this then:

“I guess all the climate scientists are not doing their job , and it is time to bring in the heavy weight intellectuals to figure out how to reduce our carbon footprints.”

Is there a history of using the wrong forum with the OP? I didn’t know threads in wrong forums get closed to teach people a lesson Why not just move it to where you think it belongs?

FWIW, it seems like the forum choice was, at least in part, questionable as to where it goes. IMHO or The Pit would make sense, but it was about celebs, so why not CS? I’ve asked the same question when someone asks a factual question with a factual answer in GQ, but it gets moved to The Game Room because it’s about sports. Personally, I’d rather see “Is there a rule regarding [something] in the MLB” in GQ, rather than the Game Room where I’d never see it since I’m not a sports person and TGR tends to be mostly sports related IMHO/MPSIMS threads.
But that’s me and my opinion and a hill I’m not looking to die on.

Fine, lesson learned.

All celebrities are Liberals. An event with 100% celebrities is not about entertainment. There has never been any ranting in any thread other than in the pit.

If it belongs in the pit, please re-open it there. I think it is obvious that there could be a difference of opinion as to where this thread belongs, so please move it.

Seconded. Again, maybe there is a history I am not aware of but this does strike me as — something. Rude maybe? Or the cheap option? But I would be curious to know more. Being the odd duck I am I have a habit of hitting closed threads first just to see that there is nothing to see here before I move along. This one would have left me scratching my head. I would have maybe called it GD more than the Pit but I would have expected a change of forum; not a locked door.

I would prefer IMHO to the pit, as I don’t post in the pit.

This is probably off-topic, but cite?

Moving the thread to the Pit would have opened the OP up for abuse. It think closing is the better strategy with dealing with threads that are rants but were clearly not started with Pit-level invective.

This allows the OP to opt in: if they want a Pit thread, they can make one, per instructions. (Though I do not mind also allowing the OP to PM a mod and ask them to reopen the thread in the Pit. That way the entire topic stays together in one thread.)

I actually think moving a thread to the Pit should be used very sparingly, as a poster likely didn’t put the thread in the Pit because they wanted to avoid being personally attacked. The Pit is materially different than other forums. Plus there’s the appearance that a mod moving something to the Pit means they think the OP deserves to be attacked.

My cite is Chronos’ post above.

I never said liberal, nor implied it. I was talking about over inflated egos that did not see the obvious.

I appreciate the thoughtful response. But can we really not discuss hypocrisy any other place than the pit?

I think he was just pouting. That’s hard to cite.

I’d read the closed thread and was mildly taken aback it was closed instead of moved but didn’t think it was a huge deal. The OP, and subsequent comments, certainly had “pit thread” written all over them.

Anyway, it’s hard to see any harm here. The logical place to move the thread would have been the pit, but Mikemike2 says he would prefer IMHO. So, now he gets a choice - he can restart the thread in either location. If a mod had moved it, he wouldn’t have had the same level of control.

Celebrities are often rich, and rich people often vote for their pocketbook. Mick Jagger, in a 1984 *Penthouse

  • interview, said that most of the major Black musicians he knew were supporting Reagan. Country music stars skew overwhelmingly Republican. If this is the tentpole of your argument, I would dispute it.

Mikemike was obviously being facetious. You can’t have a cite as it isn’t true. Clint Eastwood’s empty chair might be a liberal, but he clearly is not.

It isn’t. I was just responding to Chronos who wrongly interpreted my thread as a liberal rant and added that word.

Threads should be moved to the Pit for this very reason, invoking the Boo-Hoo, Tough Shit, and Don’t be a Weasel clauses. Sneaking rants into other forums is weak. Generally speaking, of course. I’m not speaking to mikemike2’s intent in this instance.

So interesting discussion. Another word I did not use first is “rant.” I thought we could take a few lighthearted jabs at celebrities with over-inflated egos who did not see what was obvious to much of the rest of the world. Is there a board on this forum for which that would be suited, other than the pit? I was 90% sure if I posted this in IMHO, it would have been reported for a forum change to CS. It is not a Pit worthy thread. Let me know where it gets re-opened.
