How is that possible? How many times do you need to not win before you are not first anymore?
he’s only first cuz I missed a week.
I still have a better average!
I think I have a better A J off
Can you link us to the spreadsheet again? I must be hanging by my fingernails.
@eschrodinger, I just approved you. There was no notification when we started playing; sorry if you signed up while there was still a chance to get into late registration but I missed it.
I created this Friday’s Stud game for 9:30 Eastern (I can’t play earlier because I may be playing tennis and/or pickleball before it gets dark). Should we just merge Friday results on the same leaderboard instead of having a different one? That would be my preference, but I’d be open to other ideas.
I don’t see why not. After all, only the best 10 results over the past 52 weeks count, and assuming these other poker variants have a lower player turnout, the winners of the Friday game won’t have any real advantage over players who only play the Wednesday game.
Makes sense!
With Fridays now, it will only be like three weeks now before we each have ten results to use, and the true champion can be known.
By the way, I just noticed that you scheduled the “Friday” game for Saturday
D’oh! Sorry about that. I fixed it, but you’ll have to re-register.
BTW, it sure seems like they are taking their sweet time to actually approve our club name. Oh well…
Thanks. I have a conflicting activity on Saturday evenings.
So do I: my TNS poker game!
I’m running late, so you guys can feast on my bring-in until I get there.
That was exhilarating! Manson had me on the ropes: all my chips were in the pot at one point, and we both had the same pair, but his other cards were higher so I needed to make two pair and did. But I survived that pot, started catching some cards while Manson went card dead, and I went on a run and took it down.
Next Friday: Razz! For those not familiar, it’s a really fun variant of Stud in which you are going only for low hands. Aces are low, and straights and flushes don’t hurt you, so the nut hand is the “wheel”: A2345. Something I enjoy about it is that unlike Stud hi, even the strongest starting hand (A23) can be absolutely ruined by succeeding cards.
Let’s say you are showing xxA at the beginning, but then on fourth street it’s xxAA, d’oh. Then on fifth street, xxAAK. If your opponent has say xx458, they can see that you are exposed before the world and need runner-runner to have anything better than K high, so they can mercilessly bet into you and you should probably fold.
Whereas in regular Stud, the strongest starting hand is AAA, and no matter what cards you get in the next couple streets, you still have trip aces and can get a full boat or quads with one good card on sixth or seventh street.
Anyway, it’s a lot of fun, and really rewards watching other people’s cards and taking note of how strong yours look for the sake of bluffing (even if secretly you might have some bad hole cards or even have a couple of your up cards paired).
In the meantime, of course, we’ll be playing NLHE as usual on Wednesday. See ya there!
My roof was leaking while we were playing!!!
Excuses, excuses.
Reminder that the regular weekly NLHE game starts in 20 minutes. But there is late registration, so plenty of time—including time for new players to sign up. Just give a shout-out here so I know to approve you.
This is my favorite hand that we’ve played in the club thus far: https://upswingpoker.com/hand/?pokeit=424GrPppc
This was a really tough laydown: https://upswingpoker.com/hand/?pokeit=424GrRZbs
I don’t know if it was a good one. I guess if I thought I had even a 30% chance of winning, I should have called, given the pot odds. But it sure felt like Mike hit his flush (and of course any 6 makes a straight, although that seems less likely given the way the hand played out).
That was fun. I was doing alright, made a few mistakes that were all mine, then lost my concentration when my two 7-year-olds came in. At least, that seems like a good excuse…
I’ve played some, but not much online. The interface and the shot clock takes some getting used to.
I was only minimally involved in this hand (I limp-folded a trash hand, because I’ll limp with anything on the button), but I think it might be the craziest one we’ve had. Railer was a two-outer away from tripling up, and Mike was looking in great shape for the side pot. Still, I suppose there’s some justice in the aces getting “uncracked” on the river. No one played this wrong IMO, just the “poker gods” fucking with us, LOL:
