Yeah, it was ‘Toon Blast’ a matching game very much like Candy Crush that I downloaded and enjoyed for awhile that was, if anything, even more embarrassing to admit I played than Candy Crush, which I also played for longer than I’d like to admit. I was surprised when I saw the commercial where Ryan Reynolds was endorsing it.
There’s also Jeff Goldblum doing commercials for Raid: Shadow Legends, which I’ve heard is one of the most despised mobile pay-to-win games ever. So these game companies are paying real celebrities to hawk their games.
The mobile market generates more than 50 billion dollars annually and some of those games are practically a license to print money. Way back in 2013-2014 Kate Upton was doing ads for a mobile game called Game of War: Fire Age. They started using Mariah Carey instead in 2015. According to Wikipedia, Game of War generated $600,000,000 in revenue in 2014. Here’s one of the commercials with Upton.
The Jon Hamm Apple TV+ ad gives me a chuckle, with Hamm complaining how everybody else gets an Apple TV show.
One shot appears to show him complaining to Tom Hanks on his phone, but then it cuts off as you realize he’s leaving a message. “If you are satisfied with your message —-“ “I’m not satisfied!”
Then the tag line at the end … “Everyone but Jon Hamm. Apple TV+“
Nm…….ninjaed
We love Walter!
(muttering) “It’s like nobody’s ever seen a cat before.”
I HATE Walter.
Plus that stupid song…
[end hijack]
I guess that answers the question “who doesn’t love Walter?”
I like when Walter chases the mailman.
“No, Walter! He’s a civil servant!”
Next question: How can you not love Walter?
I like Walter peeing on the fire hydrant.
“Make it quick, buddy.”
Since you asked:
I don’t truly hate Walter, I hate his owner. And that damn song.
Give Walter his own TV show, without his owner, and…I still won’t watch it.
Yeah, agree on the song.
Once again, Sarah McLachlan tugs at your heartstrings.
From AdAge
It’s funny, but just in case you thought this parody might be a little callous to McLachlan’s favorite cause, as part of the campaign, Bolt is not only helping abandoned carts, but animals as well. The brand has made a $50,000 donation to the ASPCA and has launched Bolt.com/carts, where animal lovers can buy discounted “Rescue Cart“ merchandise. Every item is priced under $1 with discount code “ABANDONEDCARTS.” For each item purchased, Bolt will donate $10 to the ASPCA, up to an additional $50,000.
Lerner & Rowe is a law firm with offices in several southwestern states. They recently ran a commercial that begins with the trope of ambulance-chasing lawyers. Then the ambulance turns off onto a side street to reveal the ice cream truck that the lawyers are really chasing.
The Walter the Cat commercials (I think there are only two of them?) are the best spots of the last 10 years. The only ads that, when fast forwarding through the DVR, I’ll stop, go back, and watch. Over and over. Just now, thinking about Walter chasing the mailman makes me laugh.
Knowing how commercials work, they’ll run it into the ground and the ads will quickly become stupid as hell. But the first two are gold. I mean, the full ads. Sometimes the TV will run some sort of edited version with only a small portion of Walter’s adventures. Lame.
Agree. The Walter cat ads are genius: briefly showing you something really distracting to hold your attention, while filling your eyes with the product they are trying to sell. Perhaps its all ‘Advertising 101’, but in this case, it works.
