Commercials you don't hate

Because, at the time of the original referenced commercial (1997) the world (or at least, America) was not yet ready for two guys in a major corporate ad to be a couple. So they were ambiguous. Or, perhaps, “ambiguous”. People actually debated it at the time. They could be just best friends. (Not that there’s anything wrong with that)

Da da da…

I like the retro font and color scheme in the new Burger King commercials. The 70s live!

The music.…well, the colors look good.

I like this commercial for Mio sparkling sake. It’s all in Japanese, but it doesn’t require much translation because there’s very little dialog or text in it, it’s mostly music and dancing. The only thing in it that isn’t practically perfect is that she’s wearing a white dress in the last four cuts, instead of the perfect blue dress, and even turns into the bottle again from the white dress.

I’m loving the new Amazon Red Riding Hood commerical. I’ll probably get sick of it sooner or later, but the wolf is so cute.

Yeah, pretty spiffy.

I remember that commercial. I never thought they were a couple at all, just roommates doing some furniture-picking.

This one for Snickers makes me laugh out loud…

I like the Specsavers ads:

And they even gain from turning the idea upside down:

And there are these old favourites from Down Under:

That Toyota one is awesome, from a time when creativity surpassed CGI.

That Hilux one is great- thanks!

This one has a nice moment or two:

I like this Capital One commercial, because after all, who doesn’t love Slash?

I am liking the Walmart Black Friday commercials featuring Office Space:

I haven’t seen one yet, love it already!

Downy Rinse and Refresh featuring the Backstreet Boys

I got a kick out of this one, especially at the end where she sings a snippet of song and the guys in the poster say “That’s not us.”

This is pretty clever. Shopify, an e-commerce platform, references AOL:

This Dr. Pepper “Wave” commercial is so silly, but makes me laugh…

VW commercial. Makes me smile every time.
They used Make Your Own Kind of Music by Mamas & Papas. Fairly obsecure hit.

Who wouldn’t smile at that face?

the commercial baffles me a bit. they didn’t try to find the sheep’s (shoop?) home? they just took it home? okay, perhaps they didn’t notice until they were a distance away. retrace the day’s voyage? wouldn’t the rancher notice they were one short?

on the other hand, little woolly is living best life and having a great time. they seem a happy little family.

While I find it a cute commercial, I’m always bothered by one thing: They refer to “breaking away from the herd”. Except that sheep are in flocks, not herds. (I suppose the commercial wouldn’t have worked as well with a cow.)
