Custom Licence Plates — Seen in the Wild

I’ve been away for a couple weeks, but now back. Captured a few already:

  • SB52⎵WIN on a FL 7-character golf booster plate on a Maserati sedan. Super Bowl 52 (2017 season played Feb 2018) was won by the Philadelphia Eagles and I bet this person is either a major fan or was part of the team.

  • OLLIEB on a CyberTruck.

  • ONE⎵SKY on a FL 7-character children booster plate on a family wagon.

  • M⎵DELIA on a FL standard plate on a generic sedan.

  • YANKS⎵28 on a FL standard plate on a red late model fancy Corvette driven by a 60-ish white guy. The NY Yankees have had a LOT of people wear #28. Manager Joe Girardi had that number from 2010-2017. Might be him. See YankeeNumbers.com - Database of Yankee Uniform Numbers Through the Years for other team members with that number.

NH plates NHREALT - presumably NH Realty firm.

YOUB 1 in the parking garage this morning. No clue on that one…

AVIRK13 on a Civic. I’ve got no clue, and there were no stickers or anything that might provide a hint.

There is a YouTuber with that appellation. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I saw a White Rabbit with the plsate ML8-ML8

I haven’t seen it, but a friend said they’d seen a Black Rabbit with the plate INLE.

(Ask someone who’s read Watership Down)

This past weekend I slowed down so that my wife could take a cellphone picture of a car with the license plate NERDS.

A Cadillac CTS: PHILEZZ A transplant from eastern Pennsylvania?
A Lexus hatchback: WAGNDAD Too far away to see if there were any other markings.
And a matte gray Tesla sedan with California SPAY & NEUTER specialty plates: 757END The only 757 I can think of is the Boeing product. Any guesses?

Or a Phillies fan?

Indeed. That’s what I was hinting.

PFERDZN – CA “whale tail” ocean conservation plate, on a Jeep. With Wonder Woman logos on the taillights and rear window. And a Santa Cruz sticker, a “California Grown” sticker, and what looked to be a social justice related sticker. It seems like something in there should provide a clue, but I still have no idea.

SHMOKIN on a Tesla Model S. A Jim Carrey fan, perhaps?

GO CHKS on a Lexus. There was a frame that might have provided a clue, but I couldn’t get close enough to read it. “Go Chicks!” is my best guess.

Two seen today, while driving north through Wisconsin:

On standard Wisconsin plates, on a Jeep of some flavor: J33PSTR.

On Milwaukee Brewers plates: 1982WS. We Brewers fans know that 1982 was the team’s one and only appearance (to date) in the World Series, which they lost in seven games to the Cardinals.

There was a product called the Jeepster Commando - Wikipedia. UNless the one you saw was ancient, it wasn’t one of those, but maybe your owner liked them or once owned one.

Or thought of themselves as a “jeepster”.

I scored 2-1/2 yesterday:

  • RELTORS on a FL standard plate on a black Tahoe big SUV. A real estate salesperson no doubt. Yawn.

  • VLT⎵DINO on a FL standard plate on a Welch’s grape jelly purple late model Ferrari. I’m betting on “Violet Dino”. Although the Dino name hasn’t been used by Ferrari since the 1970s, it’s still a name that Ferrari folks would recognize as a sly reference. This car was a 2020-something model.

The “1/2” was a generic sedan with somebody’s generic last name. Can’t even remember what it was. Boooorrrrrriiiiiinnnnnng!

On a white Audi Q8: CHECK1 2. Audio engineer?

IMAGINE on a black SUV parked down the street from my office building. Imagine what, I don’t know.

My mind goes immediately to the John Lennon song.

On a Wisconsin plate this afternoon: BCNUL8R.

Be Seein’ You Later

A few I spotted last night:

300KODO on a VW Passat. Or something like that, I might be mixing up 0’s and O’s. I guess “300,000 something”?

AU EST8 on a Range Rover. “Gold Estate”. I guess the estate they’re going to leave their heirs is mostly gold?

4STUNER on a 4Runner. Meh. It looked like it maybe had a few small mods, but overall it just looked like an average 4Runner, not even close to what I would call a “stunner”.

300KODO is probably 300K odometer reading; their Passat has lasted them very well. Or maybe the previous car did and this car wears the 300K plate as encouragement.

“Estate gold” is the term for jewelry left behind after a death. There’s a big business buying that stuff from heirs that mostly just want to monetize the stuff no hassle. So it’s bought for the spot bullion price regardless of what other value as jewelry it may have. Maybe your car driver owns a gold buying outfit.

I bet 4STUNER is “4S tuner”. In modern car-speak, a tuner is an engine hopped up mostly with electronic tweaks, rather than the sort of hotrod stuff like camshafts and exhaust headers that guys our age (or our fathers) did in their youth. There isn’t an “S” model of 4Runner for 2026, but there may well have been when your sighting was new. There is an SR5 model, which seems to be the stripper.
