Custom Licence Plates — Seen in the Wild

KAH CHOW? Someone who’s a Lightning McQueen fan?

XR4TED on a Tesla this morning.

TIL. Thank you. That’s probably it.

The car was a nondescript sedan. Be better if the car had some pizzazz. But the owner can dream I guess.

Scored 3 this morning:

  • LASER⎵5 on a nearly new large Mercedes. Maybe a dermatologist or eye surgeon?
  • GYMRATS on a Cadillac SUV. At least in the face and hair the driver much more resembled a 40yo real estate agent than a gym rat. But she might be in fantastic shape.
  • VEROOM on a McLaren super sportscar. Vroom-vroom indeed.

GLADYS on a red Jeep. The driver was an older woman… about the right age to be named Gladys.

NEDKLDO on a license plate attached to a sort of ratty looking little sedan with a couple of big women sitting on the front seats. I’ll let you guess what it means.

She liked both Darrins?

Saw LOON3Y this morning on a 20-year-old pickup.

Scored two not very interesting ones this afternoon

  • FAMA on a small SUV hatchback thingy.
  • NEECY68 on a older Audi sedan.

Both presumably varations on names or nicknames.

I tried making some plays on the current meme-ish acronym FOMO but wasn’t getting anywhere.

Well Fama means Fame in Spanish, so that is a possibility for that one.

In my case A␣MISSY said to me CHR15T if you put GOD␣1ST you get an A1␣GOD. I wasn’t sure about all that, but at least I am not a DPPLGNR (or at least I don’t think I am).

I choose to interpret the A1 GOD as AI GOD because of the times, though it was on a pick-up truck. I guess it could be someone who really likes A1 steak sauce.

One interesting one today: AKA BUB. OK bub.

This morning I saw GHSTLDR. Ghost leader? Ghostly Doctor?

Saw an example of the FL scuba enthusiast plate with LAX⎵MOM. I’m not sure if she’s a bad parent, a laid-back parent, from Los Angeles, or something else.

That reminds me of one I saw several years ago (which I may have already mentioned): LAXRULES.

I wasn’t sure if the owner was a big fan of the Los Angeles International Airport (or just Los Angeles in general, I suppose), or opposed to the strict enforcement of rules.

I later learned that LAX is also a common shorthand for the sport La Crosse, and that’s the most likely interpretation. That actually works for yours, too.

I was going to note the same thing. Years ago, I was in Baltimore for some focus groups, and the facility where we were doing the groups was located in a small mall, where there was a store with a big sign: “LAX Zone.” That was the day I learned that “LAX” is shorthand for lacrosse, and that lacrosse is a popular sport in that part of the country.

Thank you. Now that I read this, I recall you explaining about LAX = Lacrosse upthread someplace. I sure would not hav ecome up with that memory on my own though.

Having grown up in Los Angeles with a Dad who worked at LAX the big airport, the power of that interpretation blinded me to the others.

And in my mind, “Lacrosse” is first and foremost a small city in Wisconsin, so out of habit I went and capitalized it and separated it into two words, since that is how the city is spelled.

Just for kicks I googled that one and someone else posted it to Reddit. Assuming this is the same car:

Also, Reddit has an entire sub just for posting pictures of license plates. There’s a lot of good ones over there.

A blue Honda Fit! That’s indeed the same one.
