That’s exactly what I was thinking, Grace. I can watch that kinda stuff for hours.
OK, I probably overreacted a bit on the karaoke. I’d love to do karaoke, I just didn’t want to run off potential participants because they thought they were going to be blackmailed into doing karaoke. Besides, Aglarond’s faux laryngitis is getting a little painful.
David - all are welcome (even complete strangers - the stranger the better) As for the exhibit - it’s a permanent exhibit - if you’ve been there anytime in like the last 30 years you probably saw it. But as to what it is, I’m leaving for a surprise.
Grace - you read my mind. I think two parties is a great idea. Baseball won’t work because a) from psiekier’s post I gather that the rangers are not going to be playing the 19th and b) if anyone wants to do a sports :shudder: get-together they can put it together themselves.
So we have:
Aug 12th - Dinner and Karaoke. Cheffie, where is this karaoke bar you’re thinking of? That should affect where we eat - after, if there’s a restaurant close enough, we can get started on the heavy drinking earlier!
Aug 19th - Dinner at Goldfingers (greek) or the have I intrigued you about the museum? It’s sort of like a mini exploratorium: http://www.fwmuseum.org/ And there’s a very good Italian restaurant near there that we can eat at afterwards.
(I forgot something)
Falcons coming!
Yep, and Balance said he’d do a duet with me if we do karaoke.
Hoo boy…methinks I’m gonna be in trouble now…
I think I’m giving zyada a run for the title of party tart. I’ll be there. Someone will have to provide me with a map though. Anything south of LBJ and I’m lost.
Ok, how about this for an agenda?
12th - Goldfingers for supper(dinner for you northerners) unless Aglarond comes up with something else tonight. Karaoke bar afterwards as long as no one is forced to sing.
19th - Take Zyada to the Fort Worth museum and dinner or drinking or gunfight in the stockyards or 2 steppin’ at Billy Bob’s afterwards (I can’t 2 step, what the hell am I saying).
26th - Take Grace to the Rangers game and buy her lots of beer and hotdogs.
Ok, it’s a bit much, but the kids said I needed to get out more. I know better than make decisions for women, so this is just a suggestion, Zyada.
Jim
I can’t sing and I can’t dance. Those of you still interested and willing to take a chance can still reserve a spot on my dance card. :::uses her thumb to cover up a spot for an extra dance with JimB:::
Grace, pencil me in for any spot that no one else takes. I hope that extra dance is a nice slow one. I’ll try not to step on your feet too much.
Morning bump
Goldfingers sounds good to me, if that’s fine with everyone else. Otherwise, I’ll post an updated list. As for the 19th, have fun. I won’t be able to make it, because of a wedding. So. Anybody have any complaints about Goldfingers?
The Rangers are not playing on the 19th, and that’s how I become available.
My Kiwanis Club works the concession stand at the ballpark and I have to be there almost every night.
In fact, we need more volunteers. Maybe at dinner I could convince some of you to come out and give us a hand. Believe me when I say it’s for a very good cause!
Dinner and drinks would be just fine by me. If we put it in the middle, like the Razzoos at 183 and Central, then it’s half-way for us Dallasites and the Cow-towners.
Of course, Razzoos is a great place for drinks, but it’s extremely loud, so we’d have to shout to be heard.
Is this “Goldfingers” in a central location?

Okay, I searched on the web and found a couple of karaoke bars. Here’s a sampling:
[ul][li]British Rose Pub, Forest at Greenville. Karaoke from 9 pm to 1:30 am. Sounds like a fun place, but may be too far east for our more westerly folks.[/li]
[li]City Streets, Arapahoe and Preston. 5 clubs under one roof, including a karaoke bar, a piano bar, a martini/fine spirits bar, a 70s disco, and a country & western bar. Good points: handy to addison, lots of variety. Bad point: $7 cover charge. Karaoke from 8 pm to 2 am.[/li]
[li]Kats, Dallas Alley in the West End. A full-fledged karaoke bar, servin’ up the hits from 6 pm to 2 am. Not handy to Addison, but I hear there are one or two places to eat in the West End. grin Plus there are handy highways for folks to head home on, no matter what direction they’re going.[/li][/ul]
I’m sure there are other places…these seemed like likely possibilities.
<Oh $#!*, I was only joking!>
That’s why we’re not doing karaoke, right?! C’mon Falcon, we want a Doper get-together, not a Doper flee-screaming-into-the-night-simultaneously!
Besides, I don’t think I know any duets–not that are worth singing, anyway. Maybe you could teach me one?
Balance, your fears are groundless. We won’t go screaming into the night if you suck…quite the contrary, nothing bonds a group together like laughing hysterically at a third party.
Besides, there are two distinct types of singers who are a BIG hit at a karaoke bar: people who are really good, and people who are really bad (and preferably also really drunk). I think we’ll have some of each type in our little group.
In any case, most of us are excused if they don’t want to go, but you can’t skip it…you aren’t allowed to steal Falcon away from us too early.
Hee! I knew I was gonna be in trouble!!!
But nah…if you were only joking, then I’ll just fly solo. I told you, I love singing, and after one or two drinks, I’ll be over my stage fright enough to actually DO it. Besides, you said you had a nice singing voice, remember? However, I’ll see if there are any duets we could try.
And total aside…come help me out in the Evil Villans thread, hon! We’re freaking being attacked!!!
Is a shithole…
I was there last Friday. It was the most disapponting experience I have ever had at a club.
Its huge…but uh…someone forgot to tell them that things that dont mix are:
- Rednecks and Ravers
- 30-something singles and just turned 21 young-uns
- A bar…and lighting resembling a walmart
That place sucked…sucked…sucked…
I’ll never go back!
-SS:(
actually, if we’re having dinner at Goldfinger’s (which is the way things seem to be going… opa!), we wouldn’t want to trek all the way up to City Streets even if it WASN’T a shithole. I’d say Kats is the better choice, since it’s a straight shot down 35 from Goldfinger’s (which is near NW Highway not far from the Harry Hines Split, IIRC) to the West End, and people can leave from downtown on the highway of their choice to get home afterward.
Agreement? Argument?
Any objections to me bringing Hootee again? She’s my driver when I don’t know where the heck I’m going. Besides, if Chef is lucky, maybe she’ll give him another boob shot. I’ll have to see if she’s available.
If I get a guaranteed boob shot, I’ll buy the round and guarantee my presence!
-SS
Grace, if you want to ride with me I’d be happy to chauffeur… although Hootee is certainly welcome, it does make things awkward when it’s time for us to slip away to the hotel room… wink
Seriously, if she’s busy or doesn’t want to come, you’re more than welcome to ride with me.
