People seem to gravitate to tragic and sad situations, complete with cliffhangers and unknown outcomes; it is why soap operas are so popular no doubt.

FWIW, back when CitizenPained posted about sharing cottage cheese with one of her students, I PM’d her and offered to send a few bucks to buy the kid more cottage cheese. She gracefully refused. I didn’t see if she started a donation thread for the kids and I don’t know much about scams…but this really doesn’t feel like one to me.
That’s how a lot of confidence men/women work, though, so that doesn’t prove anything. They’ll tell tales of how they give and give, and if anyone offers to help, they’re all, “Oh NO! I couldn’t POSSIBLY take someone else’s money…” then later on when they ask for money, the mark remembers, “Well, when I offered, they said no, but now they want some, so it must be sincere…”

Well one thing that pushes my Bullshit meter was in the squatting thread. She said the owner offered to let her live there for $450 a month but she said that was more than she makes in a month. But she says she is a teacher. I know that in most states they don’t make 80k a year like here but they make a lot more than $450 a month.
