… because the SDMB is literally the only site I’ve been able to load for the last four hours.
My internet AND phone service went down, although the cable tv continued to work fine. Not only that, but every time I tried to call my provider on my cell phone, I got a busy signal.
Apparently my internet is still working, since I can load this site. This is feeling like a major trunk line is down somewhere.
Everything’s fine for me.
Shhh! Don’t give them ideas!
Does “The bunghole of WA” mean Washington state? I just got a 52.56Mbps connection on speedtest.net from a server in Seattle to me here in England. That is nearly as good as I get to a server just a few miles away from me. It looks like Washington is still connected to the world.
I am having all kinds of problems too
Yes. I can’t access anything local (though I have no idea whether these local places’ sites are hosted locally). Can’t access Google, or CNN.com, or the Seattle Mariners site.
All I wanted to do when I got home from work today was relax into World of Warcraft, but I can’t log into that, either.
Just the SDMB. I’ve tried every bookmark in my list.
ETA: And the Dope is performing better than usual. Maybe because it has the place to itself.
Update: Finally got into WoW, but I notice Stormwind City is not as crowded with other players as one would normally expect on a Saturday evening.
Local news said Charter Communications was affected nationwide. I don’t know if others were affected. I’m traveling and on my phone so I’m curious what’s happening. As usual SDMB is telling me more than any place else.
Ah, I am a Charter Internet subscriber …
It was down this afternoon in Nevada too - I could get to Google, but nothing much beyond that.
I have Charter internet service here in Georgia. My internet was down for several hours this evening. I also have TV & phone with Charter; they were OK.
Nice to know, we have Charter as well. I think it started being dodgy yesterday morning, I kept getting kicked offline and gave up trying to raid and barely managed to do my dailies in GW2. Starting this morning around 10 I lost all the kinja based stuff [Gawker, Deadspin, IO9 and such] and everything else was laggy or wouldn’t load graphics properly, or the ads wouldn’t load and it prevented the pages from loading properly. It gave up entirely around 8 n the evening for at least 3 hours so we just watched Dr Who and the new creepy show after it [I give up, I am not entirely certain what the hell the plot on that one is … you don’t die, your body does, or your body doesn’t and your soul does? I give up, Ill watch it next week and if it still sucks they can forget it.]

Do they have sharks in Washington and Nevada?
I wonder if this is an example of an Internet schism that was mentioned on Slashdot recently. Some models of Cisco routers have a default setting that isn’t large enough to handle current routing tables. (And changing the setting requires taking down the routers for a bit.)
There has been a group called Lizard Squad who has been DDoSing games the past few days.
They’ve taken NCsoft ( GW2 + WS ) down several times. Last night they were about to affect WoW. Seems like I remember seeing on their Twitter that they took down a chunk of some ISP trying to affect an individual for whatever reason.
My guess is that some of your woes might be related to these ass hats.
Posting from England, it’s been fine the past few hours but it was sketchy all morning and most of the afternoon.
Can you even begin to imagine the reign of terror that 20 million Candy Crush-deprived computer addicts could inflict on our enemies, should they be so stupid as to target the internet?
Well… They were stupid enough to call in a fake bomb threat on American Airlines Flight 362 in order to inconvenience SOE’s John Smedley. The plane was diverted and searched as a result.
If these guys are US based, they might be in for a world of trouble. (assuming any of our anti-cybercrime organizations are worth a damn)
