Did you guys know that Evil Captor likes bondage? With bonus fuck-off for Miller!

I pretty much agree with the OP. As a matter of fact, completely separately from Excalibre’s and Inkleberry’s complaints, I reported this post:

http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showpost.php?p=6799419&postcount=13

to the mods. (Do I get a biscuit?)

In his reply, Dex said that he would chat to the mods about it, and if I could find links to similar posts, that would be helpful. Dex, would any of the links in this thread count (Excalibre’s been better at finding them than me!) or should we all report dodgy posts when we come across them?

I don’t want the guy banned or anything, but he could lay off the rape stuff a smidgen. And, to be frank, a name change might help.

I don’t get it… in a thread asking which scenes would be better with nudity, he listed some which would be better with nudity. This was beyond the pale?

Ah well, this whole thread seems like a tempest in a teapot.

–==sigh==–
I guess that’s one post I won’t make.

Seriously. Count me as one poster who had never noticed Evil Captor’s occasional reference to bondage. Now that it’s been pointed out - repeatedly - on multiple forums - count me as one poster who doesn’t care.

Have fun with your attempted pile on.

I just hate it when a partner wont reciprocate. I did all the work last time. It’s your turn.

First of all, I’d like to thank everyone who has generally supported my position in this and all the other threads and attempted threads about my bondage posting. I really appreciate the kind words, and also the people who stopped in to say that they just don’t care about my posts that reference bondage. It’s good to know these things.

Second of all, I’d like to correct the impression that I’m into non-consensual sex. I’m not. I’m all about consensual. But a woman who’s consensually tied up while having sex, or who is consensually enjoying a rape fantasy is having consensual sex, no matter how that appeals to you. In fact, I am so into consensual that I get no enjoyment from sex if my partner isn’t enjoying it, too. That’s not a political or social statement, it’s my personal response. So all you who have been so worried about your girlfriends and daughters where I am concerned can rest easy, I wouldn’t enjoy any sex with them unless they were willing participants AND were having a good time. Unless THAT is what you were worrying about. Even then, you needn’t worry too much, because I’m not looking for new sex partners thankyewverymuch.

Now, I don’t have a problem with nonconsensual scenes in movies and TV shows because … they’re movies and TV shows. They’re not real. A pretend tied-up scene, or a pretend rape scene strikes me as being a dramatic presentation, and I feel very comfortably analyzing it for its sexual bondage content, because such content is there whether it’s openly acknowledged or not. (The Lifetime people are masterly in the way they work THAT particular double standard.)

Just because you are reduced to a sobbing bundle by the sight of Tatum O’Neal being escorted down the middle of a busy airport in cuffs and shackles in the Lifetime classic, “Woman on the Run: The Bambi Bambenek Story,” doesn’t mean I’m not free to analyze it as a classic image of public bondage and humiliation, and to enjoy it as such. And frankly, so much bondage is so badly done in mainstream movies and on TV that you’re missing out if you don’t get some laughs out of it.

Wow, there’s a lot of sexual deves on this board, and Evil Captor is their king …
… and now I’m bored.

Really, Excalibre, all you’ve done here is point out the wonderful variety that is the world of people. If everyone was into the same thing, what a boring world it would be.

Still, I suppose it is a good thing you ranted and got this off your chest. Now it’s out in the open and getting discussed and within a few days will disappear off the front page and we won’t have to go through this silliness anymore.

He said ‘Also, the scene where Yellow Bastard has her tied up and is whipping her.’ Have you seen that Sin City scene? It’s a very hardcore. Jessica Alba has been kidnapped by the bastard who tried to rape her as a child. He’s whipping her so that she cries, because that’s what he gets off on.

So yes, the idea of someone getting off on it creeps me out somewhat.

I’m having problems getting your point of view. For example, speaking as a woman, I get turned on when Sean Bean is a little rough with Joely Richardson in Lady Chatterly’s Lover. Because, in the programme, I know she’s enjoying it, and so I’m enjoying it. But I cannot possibly get turned on by say Jodie Foster getting raped in The Accused. There’s a big difference.

Is this just a male/female thing?

The point Excalibre makes about dialing back the bondage references out of courtesy to board members and guests who don’t like them is about as close as he has come to making sense in this thread, so I’ll deal with that next.

On the surface, it appears a reasonable request. But as should be obvious to Excaliber and Inkleberry and their buddies, opinion is divided on the topic of my bondage-oriented posts. Now, if every little subgroup of SDMB that didn’t like a particular topic were able to quash discussion on that topic by requesting that posters stop posting about it “out of simple courtesy” as it were, it could very easily become the case that small cabals could pretty much control what was discussed on the SDMB. That wouldn’t be fair to those posters who might enjoy reading and even participating in such discussions, would it? It would in fact be discourteous to them, pre-emptively cutting off their chances for such discussion, just because it’s apparently bothersome to some of you that people are free to discuss such topics.

So we have a case where we can move in favor of those who wish to restrict the discussions of others,. of we can more in favor of those who desire freedom of expression. I tend to go with freedom of expression. YMMV, but I hope it never gains any traction on the Dope, no matter how much it varies. I think your viewpoint is generally antithetical to the ethos of free expression that has ruled in cyberspace, and which I hope will continue to rule.

  1. They aren’t constant. We’ve established that.
  2. Even if your premise were accurate, no, I’m not.
  3. If I were, there’s a way to solve the problem other than whinging about it.

On the Excalibre hyperbolic squicky scale, that means YOU TALK ABOUT IT ALL THE FUCKING TIME!!! WOULD YOU SHUT UP ABOUT IT? EVERY SINGLE FUCKING POST IS A REFERENCE TO HOW YOU WON’T RENEW YOUR SUBSCRIPTION! I DON’T WANT TO HEAR IT! IT SQUICKS ME OUT TO HEAR ABOUT OTHER PEOPLE NOT ENJOYING THE SDMB! JESUS!

Tsk tsk. Yet another post about your bondage fetish. Gee whiz, can’t you go one single post blah blah blah blah…

I would say no. Being male I am not turned on at all by rape scenes.

But the question was “What movie scenes would be improved by nudity?” I agree with his selection…that scene would have been better if Jessica had been nude. Whether or not EC gets off on the scene is completely irrelevant.

It’s a dramatic presentation. It has elements. Bondage, clothing, imagery – particularly the cartoonish quality of the imagery in that film. I enjoyed the fact that Jessica Alba’s character escaped alive, and that Yellow Bastard got the painful death he deserved, and I wish Bruce Willis’ character had survived, but that doesn’t mean I can’t analyze the scene and say, "This would have been better if. And it would have been much sexier and much more dramatic if Jessica had been nude. It would have ramped up her vulnerabilty and her peril. It wouldn’t have been JUST a matter of being strong sexual bondage imagery, it would have been strong DRAMATIC imagery as well.

NO, it’s a dramatic thing. Any scene in any movie or TV show can be analyzed for its dramatic and/or sexual content. It doesn’t matter what the dramatic purpose of the scene is, or how it is meant to affect the viewer emotionally, it’s possible to take the scene apart and analyze it in terms of what works well and what doesn’t.

I haven’t seen The Accused because I generally don’t enjoy rape scenes. If Jody had been tied up during the rape, prolly more interest on my part. But rape alone just doesn’t do it for me. I don’t know if that makes you feel better or worse about my posts.

Thank you for answering my honest question. I understand what you mean now.

Charles Ng. (SP?)

Think Ming the Merciless, Snydely Whiplash, etc. Fun evil captors.

As intended. You need to have a certain amount of freedom for bondage to be play.

Actually I believe he said the scene would be more realistic and therefor, better.

Does it make sense that the yellow bastard would not have stripped Alba nude?

No it doesn’t.

That is what bothered me about Sin City. Alba and whatshername the girl that plays Rory Gilmore, did strip down. Not just for pervert reasons, but it showed, to me, a lack of commitment to the film itself. If every prostitute walks around in underware, why was she wearing clothes. If you play a stripper, in a seedy bar, in a place called Sin City, then guess what? You strip.

The google ads seem to think that this is a discussion involving religion. Hmmm.

I’m for you, EC; discuss anything you want to. It’s a free world. People who don’t like your posts are free not to read them.

I also agree that most bondage in mainstream stuff is pathetic. Sloppy; how much research would it take to get it right?

Also, in Sin City, it seem odd that the parole officer appears naked and the stripper doesn’t. Could it be deliberate, to show the inversion of good/evil lascivious/wholesome?

Then you missed the main point. YB was turned on by LITTLE girls. Not grown up ones. There would be no point in Alba stripping down to get whipped since his main turn-on is very young girls. The only reason that I can think of for her to strip down is because males (like me, I admit) would love to see her nude. Just not while being whipped (like Evil Captor).

Get it?

Maybe it’s a little late, but count me in as one who completely skips over Evil Captor’s posts in Cafe Society.

It’s not that he does it all the time. I don’t care enough to check the percentages (even though as a numbers geek that would make me hot). But after the 50th time you read “As a bondage fan, this is what I thought of that movie…” you get a little tired of it.

Nobody cares what you as a bondage fan thinks of anything. What did you as a person think? It was my same problem with Johanna or whatever her name was. “As a transvestite, here’s what I think of The New X-Men.” Wow, that’s relevant how?

These people that are complaining aren’t prudes, they’re just annoyed with it.
