Disney to acquire Lucasfilm for $4.05B [And new Star Wars movie in 2015]

Not sure about Franchises, but I think they got Industrial Light and Magic since it’s a subsidiary of LucasFilm. If they did, that would be a pretty big deal.

I don’t think they got LucasArts though, so they probably don’t have any of the adventure game properties.

I’d give Whedon a :dubious: but Abrams made the Trek reboot a lot more like a Star Wars movie, maybe he could do what George didn’t.

My suggestions: Joe Johnston, Gore Verbinski, Sam Raimi.

Bravo Sir/Madam, bravo.

I wonder what Michael Bay could do with a star destroyer.

I think this is damn good news. Disney has done a great job with the Marvel franchise so I will give them a shot with Star Wars. They can’t fuck it up worse than Lucas already has, and maybe they can un-fuck it.

My 11-year-old nephew loves Star Wars. So, my brother and I have to care, even though we grew up as Star Trek fans.

Proof once again that Darth Mickey’s reach and grasp are not limited by the length of his arms.

Dang! I want to see what Outlaws would look like after benefiting from another 15 years of gaming technology!

All Lucas-related businesses are part of the deal including LucasArts, Skywalker Sound, ILM, and Lucasfilm.

It’s a shame that Irvin Kershner is dead. He gave us the only great Star Wars movie in my opinion. I’d be willing to bet that Brad Bird has a great Star Wars movie in him, but he won’t pass go without a very solid script - see the lack of a sequel for The Incredibles.

I don’t think there is any reason to think they would screw it up any more than George Lucas did with episodes 1-3.

Disney made the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, which were very good classic adventure-type movies.

Have people slowly walk away from it while it explodes in slow motion to a crescendo of music.

If anyone is interested, the conference call to the stock holders is available to listen to.

Rather than a sequel to Ep VI, I would have rather preferred that they started over completely by going back and doing a series of movies set in the days of the Old Republic. There is a lot of good material from that time. Ep VI really does not need a sequel. I will be interested to see what age group the new films will target. I don’t think that George Lucas ever figured that out with EP 1-3, alternately throwing in stuff for kids and older audiences alike to create a kind of strange mish mash. I hope that they stick with a tone more like Ep III and eliminate all the Jar Jar type characters.

The very concept of a prequel is tainted even if it does not directly tie into the current movies. There’s no reason you can’t have you KotOR series set after Jedi - just set them waaay later. Luke builds the Order back during the opening crawl, now on with the show.

I’d characterise the problem differently. I’d say the problem was alternately throwing in stuff not for kids and not for older audiences alike, instead of making everything neutral-to-positive for your entire audience.

Kids are idiots. See Dreamworks’ fart jokes and shouting match hackery. Pixar makes movies for adults that are appropriate for kids. Star Wars could do that.

And the C-SPAN-style trade negotiation drama wasn’t for either of them.

I thought Star Wars and Indiana Jones were Saturday afternoon matinee adventure movies? They’re for kids old enough to go to the movies by themselves while the parents do something else. Nothing wrong with heads getting chopped off.

No reason to market to preschoolers with Ewoks & crap though.

Comic relief sidekicks? Sure! Just make them actually comical.

Since they already have a release date I’m thinking they got 7 fleshed out already. Then they do 8 and then 9 and then it’s open business for whatever and the first one after that really should be KoTOR 1.

But fuck, that’s at least 9 years away if they do one every two years which might be a bit tight.

Ok, they should trash 7,8 and 9 and go straight to KoTOR 1.

Also they need to make a Willow sequel and put Warwick back in as an older Willow.

Also a sequel for Labyrinth now that Disney owns the muppets they could do a kick-ass non-CGI thing with kick-ass puppets.
