At least he didn’t have a thousand tails.
Just an old-fashioned bump song
Comin’ down in three-part harmony.
Oh, it’s early in the morning
And the dew is on the ground.
The bump arises from his nest
And gazes all around -
From the boxcar, to the haystack
He gazes everywhere
And never turns back upon his track
Until he’s beat a square.
I don’t recognize that last bump … lil’ bumpin’ help, please?
It’s the first verse of a song about hoboes that my dad used to sing. He said the “beat a square” meant travelling from the east coast to the west coast and from north to south. Which is why the next verse goes -
Oh, I’ve worked my way from Frisco Bay
To the rockbound coast of Maine,
Canada and Mexico and wandered back again.
I’ve met Tomtoms and Harvest Bulls
As tough as a cop can be
I’ve been in every calaboose
In this Lane of Liberty.
Bump
What a helpful, informative, AND entertaining bump!
Come for the bumps; stay for the information and entertainment.
I may be able to find it on YouTube when I get home. Hoboes were apparently a theme for popular songs at one time.
Almost forgot - bump.
You mean like
Trailers for sale or rent
Rooms to let, 50 cent
No phone, no pool, no pets,
I ain’t got no cigarettes. I smoke
Old stogies I have found
Short but not too big around. I’m a
Man of means by no means.
King of the Road
It’s called The Bum Song (1928). I had forgotten the first verse and it looks like my dad had forgotten a couple of others.
Now I need to look up Halleluiah, I’m a Bump.
Halleluiah, bump again.
A November bump. No big thing, just a little bump.
So that was a hobump.
I looked, but couldn’t find any more hobo songs from 1928 on YouTube.
I’ll just bump along.
Was out doing a training ride today, and crossed over a place where there was some construction going on.
There was a warning sign up that said “Bump”
So, here it is.
And it made you think of this thread? Cool.
Bump.
Do you realize how long it’s been since somebody didn’t not bump this thread?
Bump.
I noticed the bumpiness of the thread running.
Bumps in the road, I guess.
Yeah…
And
Bump, btw
Aw, c’mon. It wasn’t even two weeks.
Bump.
