Doper food exchanges?

Okay, so I was at Wikipedia. More specifically, reading about Lays brand potato chips. Something I’m a huge fan of. Ohhhh man, talk about guilty pleasures. I must have tried every flavor there is at least 5 times, and while I didn’t really care for some, I did like every one overall. Even those I didn’t care for I ate with relish. They’re just so good. And, of course, I obviously have some flavors I get all the time. About 3 of them too.

But all this is beside the point. It’s merely a bit of background info. What is the point is that I read on Wikipedia that other countries have other flavores of Lays potato chips. More notably, Canada.

Roasted Chicken flavor? POUTINE flavor?
I LOVED poutine when I was there. Anything Poutine flavored would be high on my list of things to enjoy eating.
And so, I knew I had to pull out all the stops and ask, cajole, inquire, and even beg anyone who lives up there (from here) if they’d be so kind enough to send me a bag of one of those wonderful flavors? I, of course, would reimburse you, either with money, or a food/snack of YOUR choice.

Then, that got me thinking. Why be so selfish in this? Just making a topic asking someone to send JUST me some chips? There’s got to be a way to make it better and include other people.

And so I thought about a Doper Food/Snack Exchange Thread. Surely there’s something package-able, bag-able, carton-able that you loved in another country but thats is ne’er found where you live currently. Things you’d love to have from another place to please your palate with.
So I rushed to my e-mail right away to clear it with the admins here and, getting the okay, here we are now.

What foods wouldn’t you mind getting from another country that would be send or shippable? I’m not talking about open end or homemade foods. Nothing that could have the possibility of being unsafe. I’m talking about foods that are already packaged, sealed, unopened, etc. Things like snacks, candies, chips, beverages, etc.
List a couple or some and maybe a kind doper in reading this wouldn’t mind emailing you to work out the info in sending you some in return for another sort of foodstuff.
Of course, there’s laws to think about too. I was made aware that not all foods are legal to pass through customs and into other counties. I have no idea what things wouldn’t be permissable or what these laws entail, but I’m sure there will be members here who know the StraightDope on it.

I’m not talking about sending anything of that nature to anyone else…not if it’s illegal.

But I have no doubt there are certain ways and probably a great many things that could be shipped safely (and somehow) all around the world.
Who would be up for this then? To exchange some foodstuffs with other dopers? This isn’t really a well thought out or official thread about it, it’s just throwing the idea out there…and (hopefully) having people list what they would like and maybe having contact be established via e-mail if someone could get what you want.

Cause me…if anyone could get and send me, from Canada, some poutine flavored Lays, not only would I be in your debt but I’d pay you as well. :stuck_out_tongue:

What would you like (if ever possible)?

Round here we have potato chips in the following usual flavors:
A. “Crab Chip” Flavor – basically chips with Old Bay Crab seasoning on them (which is a seasoning made of… um… things… stuff… god I have no idea, but its good)
B. “North Carolina Style Barbeque” flavor - a strange yet yummy mix of vinegar and BBQ (NC style barbeque doesn’t have a thick tomatoey sauce, it’s mostly vinegar with spices)

I’d be happy to send some to Idle Thoughts for his search for Ultimate potato chip goodness. Drop me an email.

I love Cherry Coke but it isn’t available in Australia. I’ve noticed in some other threads that some Americans seem to like Vegemite. I can’t stomach it myself but I would be happy to send it to anyone who wants it.

When I have participated in Secret Santas in the past, I always included a variety of locally made candies such as Almond Roca and Mountain Bars. They seem to be the highlight in the recipients thank you’s.

I also included Vegemite, violet crumbles and musk sticks in my Secret Santa gift last year.

I’m near Chicago - not exactly a hotbed of location-specific goodies. BUT - I want Oxo beef cubes from England. Well, I don’t want them, but my British friend Kathleen does, and she can’t get them anymore because all her family in England who used to send them to her have passed on.

I’m willing to ship whatever in exchange. Ginger gummi bears, maybe?

BLACK CURRANT FANTA!

Oh my, I had black currant fanta while in Kenya three or so years ago, and I’d love to have some more. Everytime I see purple fanta in the store, I get excited all over again, and every time my hopes are cruelly -cruelly- dashed, as it is just that nasty fake grape shit all over again.

Imasquare, I’ll e-mail you in a minute, but my husband has the same addiction, so I’ll try to figure out how to send you some Cherry Coke.

Sorry for the double post, but Imasquare, please e-mail me. Your e-mail isn’t public.
