Election Day [Week][Month[s]] [Year] 2020 follow-along thread

Awww. For a brief moment Kentucky was blue on CNN. Lasted about five minutes.

It is still waaaaaaaay too early to even make guesses but FWIW:

(take with a massive lump of salt)

Stereotypical southern Trump supporter arrested for open carrying a firearm outside NC polling place.

Channel 9 did some digging and found that Dunn is registered as a Democrat and as a Black man. Election officials said they questioned Dunn about that discrepancy and he allegedly told them that he “wanted to test the system to see how he would be treated.”

Loser Donald takes Indiana.

WHAT? Next you’ll be telling us that Trump has Wyoming too!

Florida just closed. Early and mail vote totals are being reported. Trump is running several percentage points behind his 2016 numbers in most of the counties. We will see how the Election Day vote plays out.

So he’s running behind his 2016 numbers, but do we know if he’s ahead of Biden in the early votes?

I have a Zoom planning board meeting starting in 25 minutes. Bah. Hope it’s a short one; but it won’t be extremely short, we’ve got three or four applications to deal with.

Voted last week myself, but swung by my polling place this afternoon as I had to do another errand, and saw something I’ve never seen before in this village of about 1500 people: a line extending out the door and nearly all the way down the drive. Roughly 4:00 in the afternoon. We generally have a good turnout, but I’ve never had more than half a dozen people ahead of me in line.

Now for one thing the length of line was extended by distancing, and for another it may not be a good sign considering the usual political makeup of the area. But it was something to see, nevertheless.

He’s leading in some counties he won in 2016 but not by as much.

In Pinellas county with 75% of the vote reported Biden has 53% to Trumps 47%.

Trump won Pinellas in 2016 49% to 47% for Clinton. It looks like Biden is performing better with early and mail in votes. No idea yet how he is doing with people who voted in person.

:man_facepalming:t2:

Kinda disappointed he did not try to take the experiment all the way and register as a black woman.

It’s critical to know how they are counting the ballots. If a county starts with all the mail-in/absentee, it is likely to skew Biden initially, but it doesn’t really tell you if the county as a whole has changed.

Okay, color me ignorant. According to the NewsNation site, only 16% of the expected vote for Indiana has come in. How has that state then been called for Trump already? Or would it change as the night goes on?

ETA: inserted ‘for Indiana’

It’s Indiana. VP Pence is the former governor and it tends to skew very Republican. Obama won it in 2008 but that was a serious exception. It’s like calling NY or CA for Biden the minute the polls close.

Fuck you, Indiana. Dumbasses.
I know lots of Hoosiers. I work with them. They come to work in Illinois because we have jobs here.

This feels like 2016 already. Stepping out on the ledge…

Don’t get ahead of yourself. Still a lot of votes to be reported.

Fox News Decision Desk projects Biden wins Vermont and Virginia

Biden winning Virginia this early in the night would be a good sign, but I’ll wait for a news network to report it.

Networks will often just call a state the moment the polls close if it’s a foregone conclusion. Everyone knows Biden is going to win Virginia and Vermont.

I know it’s easy to think of Virginia as being a battleground state because it’s part of the South, but it’s not. It’s dead blue. Biden will win it by at least ten points.
