Election Day [Week][Month[s]] [Year] 2020 follow-along thread

I think that is why he talked about losing in the last week. And in his speech today, he basically conceded. He said he would win the if the legal votes were counted

I’m amazed no one has called Alaska yet.

Yeah, it is pretty much a non-issue in determining the race and yeah, technically, it is still possible to go either way but is anyone thinking it won’t be red? I remember California, Oregon and Washington being colored blue almost immediately. Alaska seems a pretty safe red.

I guess they have to do it this way but I don’t think anyone thinks it would possibly be blue. I can’t imagine what is taking them so long though. Do the ballots move via dog sled? (that would be kinda cool actually)

Translation: “When only Republican votes are counted, I WIN!!”

From your fingers to the ears of any persons’ choice of any and all dieties.

Someone quipped the other day that Alaska lives in another time zone. RIght now, it’s 1972

IANAL but I don’t think that decision completely precludes faithless electors. Instead it upholds that faithless elector (FE) laws in certain states are constitutional.

That could mean that an elector in a state that doesn’t have a law negating FE could make a faithless vote. From your cite:

Thirty-two states have some sort of faithless elector law, but only 15 of those remove, penalize or simply cancel the votes of the errant electors. The 15 are Michigan, Colorado, Utah, Arizona, Indiana, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, Washington, California, New Mexico, South Carolina, Oklahoma and North Carolina. Although Maine has no such law, the secretary of state has said it has determined a faithless elector can be removed.

So other than in those 15 or 16 states a FE would still have his/her faithless vote counted and it could change who the next president is. But there is this:

Monday’s Supreme Court decision, however, is so strong that it would seem to allow states to remove faithless electors even without a state law.

“It would seem”

There’s a different SCOTUS now and even if it was the same I don’t see how the July ruling definitively eliminates any chance of a FE. If it happened, I suspect there would be a new case for SCOTUS to rule on and at that point anything could happen.

No problem, but before you pack that bowl double check your map, it shows Apache, at least going for Biden. Still, I can’t even…might as well light up.

I’ve been baked since Tuesday myself, I thought I was going for a sprint not a marathon but I don’t want to sober up until this is done.

Will be more carefull next time, its Coconino that’s blue, Mohave is red. Yuma is also red. Lots of military there, but also another tribe that crosses borders.

I feel like i’m watching a super close nail biter of a football game, only stretched out over 3-4 days instead of 3-4 hours. And one of the quarterbacks is a complete moron, yet somehow still in the game.

1972? What, Nixon?

Haven’t been baked in several years. Just moved to SW Virginia after 30 years in NYC and NJ, only to find legalization in NJ just passed

I wish I knew more people like you.

Yeah he was President of course. Didn’t analyze the joke much

Dude! That sucks!

AZ just went legal for over 21 AND many people with sanctions due to MJ arrests are eligible to have their record expunged. I’m so happy for them.

Where do you guys live? Nowhere near me I am sure

I’m in Chicago.

Just to point something out regarding faithless electors, there were 7 successful faithless elector votes in the 2016 election (out of 10 attempted). 5 went against Trump, while 2 went against Clinton. The three Trump faithless electors voted for Colin Powell, and John Kasich, Ron Paul, and the two Clinton faithless electors voted Bernie Sanders, and Faith Spotted Eagle (Native American activist involved with the Keystone XL resistance).

6ABC just reported on air that the Philadelphia police arrested two armed men who drove up from Virginia in a HUMVEE, intending to attack the Philadelphia Convention Center where the vote count is still going on. There is now a huge police presence around the Center.
