Thanks. I’m too exhausted to read your link — WHO grants (or refuses) the request? The governor? The sec of state?
I don’t think a recount in any state has any dependency on the status of the races on other states. They’re distinct elections and a candidate could lose all 50 states and still insist on a recount in any one of them if it’s within whatever parameters the law allows.
Was not expecting GA to flip before PA, though I think PA’s flip will be much more solid.
I believe by dinner time Biden will be the apparent winner in PA. Hopefully his Secret Service detail gets a whole lot bigger.
Still trying to understand the right wing mind. Saw this on Facebook: “You will NEVER be able to convince me that a man who couldn’t get 12 people to a rally got that many votes. PERIOD.”
And from the same halfwit: “NEW VICE PRESIDENT OF FOX NEWS IS DANNY O’BRIEN HE IS JOE BIDEN’S FORMER CHIEF OF STAFF!!! ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW”
Apparently being responsible and not holding super spreader events means that you can’t possibly win an election. And we can’t even believe FOX anymore because an exec was formerly associated with -gasp- a DEMOCRAT.
I couldn’t find the rule for Wisconsin, as far as I can tell the recount request is purely based on numbers. I would guess the Election Commission makes the determination.
Brian
If Dems are cheating why did Collins, Graham, and McConnell win easily?
Thanks. I dug deep into the Wisconsin law:
“Whenever the commission receives a valid petition and any payment under par. (ag) 3., the commission shall promptly by certified mail or other expeditious means order the proper county boards of canvassers to commence the recount.”
It seems “request” is a misleading term in this case (insofar as that word implies a right of refusal). If a recount is requested, the state (really, the counties specified in the complaint) must do it.
The enemy is simultaneously pervasive and insidious and powerful and yet weak and easily vanquished. Fascism 101.
Happy Friday! Wow, I slept in later than usual, guess I needed it- -Woke up less than an hour ago… Haven’t been getting much sleep the previous couple nights. So I eagerly reach for my iPad to see what the morning brings…no PA flip yet, but GA is blue now…yeah!! And I understand PA is still on track to turn blue sometime today. Also it looks like Biden’s AZ lead has not eroded too much with 90% reporting now.
Am I missing any Friday morning election news or does that about cover it?
As I was getting ready this morning a pundit quoted something from Scott Walker, former governor of Wisconsin. Walker said Wisconsin has done recounts before but it never changes much. 180 votes in one case, 320 in another and so on (I forget the exact numbers cited but something like this). Unless the election is super-duper close a recount is unlikely to change much. Georgia may be super close. The rest do not seem close enough.
Thanks, but no one is disputing the actual outcome of any WI recount. It would clearly change nothing. We’re just wondering if Trump could force this useless task to happen, out of spite or whatever stupid, malicious reasons he can muster.
I believe he has to pay for it, so maybe it won’t happen.
Desperation and unbridled terror would be the reasons
Ha! So true. But, as has been the case since the day he was born (curse the day!), he would surely get OTHERS to pay for it.
Yarblek — for sure.
Oh, man. Biden leading in Georgia!
This could be the first time we’ve gone for a Democrat for POTUS since 1992. And that was just to turn George H.W. Bush out of office–I didn’t support him then, and still have lots of disagreements with his policies–and some of his damned rhetoric, too–but in retrospect it’s certainly easy to see that he was a sane and fundamentally responsible person who was at least trying to do the right thing. Even his son (a far worse President than his father) was a vastly better man than Trump.
I really, really hope this holds and we will have done our part in getting rid of this disloyal, lying, cruel, unhinged, narcissistic, sociopathic con artist.
trump only got 131 more votes in the 2016 WI recount. That would be a lot of $$ per extra vote if it was about the same this time.
Amazing news to wake up to today (I live in GA)!! Now we have to see how many votes come in today but this lead will probably grow through the day a little bit.
A lot of folks are, as they should, thankful to Stacey Abrams for registering so many people to vote the last 2 years. This victory is hers as well.
Every state’s counts (and potential recounts) are independent of the other states.
Thanks. I realize that. I was wondering about how these independent timelines might play out.
It does not have to be Wisconsin. You can extrapolate that to any state.
So much yes to all of this. While everyone has their flaws, Bush the Greater was the second most likable President in my lifetime after Obama. I don’t particularly like Clinton’s personality even if his policies align closer with mine than Bush’s. And of course Trump combines the shallowness of Reagan with the sleazy salesman vibe of Clinton and Bush the Lesser so I definitely wouldn’t want to have a beer with him. If I liked beer.
Why? If Georgia’s final tally (for example) is under 1,000 vote difference, then there is a state where a recount COULD result in an actual change.
Still unlikely — only when you get down to under about a 300-vote difference does a recount really have much of a chance of mattering — but not impossible, as is the case with Wisconsin (or any other 10,000-plus-difference state).
