Oh thank goodness.
They wait. But we can be happy without them.
No way they can call it on a lead of 6K votes, not matter what the trend has been. I suspect that at this point, they’re going to wait for mathematical near-certainty
Excellent chance for Biden to have 306 EC votes, just like Trump got last time.
Congrats - and thanks - to you Georgians!
It sure would be nice if there were one clear site explaining things in the remaining states. Just explaining what ballots are outstanding from where, the expected pace of counting, future time limits, etc. Yeah, I know there are explanations at Politico and then you can delve deeper in the individual state’s sites, but DAMN, it is enough effort to keep up w/ YOU folk!
Thanks to those of you who are crunching the numbers. I’m sure hoping to hear something today - or at least see more favorable movement. Having PA turn light blue would be great!
In a perverse way, I almost wish for a clear - tho close - Biden victory, to give Trump more time/reason to appear more foolish. Yeah, there is the risk that he might energize the crazy, but I’m hoping he further tarnishes his reputation, making it easier for the fucking sychophants to back away from him and approach reason. (Yeah, color me a hopeless idealist!)
(DAMN - ninja’ed while typing!)
I can hear Howard Cosell’s voice: “Down goes Donald! Down goes Donald!”
Fabulous news. I don’t see how this could flip back. The race is over.
The Pittsburgh Polka!
Decision Desk HQ calls the election for Biden:
Channeling my inner Trump now: STOP THE COUNT! WE WIN! STOP THE COUNT!
Should be game over, since so far every county in PA (including the reddest ones deep in the heart of Pennsyltucky) has reported mail-in votes going for Biden by at least 60:40. If I lived in some of those places I would want to vote by mail too just so I wouldn’t have to wait in line with a bunch of Trumper yahoos.
It’s interesting: after I logged off last night and was winding down, I saw the vote totals in GA’s four remaining counties. I immediately saw the number was down to 14000 left and that about 1500 were in Forsythe County, which is notoriously right wing. But when I did the math, it showed Biden coming out on top by about 2000 votes owing to huge Biden support in one other county and moderate support in others. We still have to wait for mail-in but I’m guessing that’ll probably go 50-50 and perhaps even slightly in favor of Biden.
I’m not sure that I’ve ever before wished that a Scalia precedent be respected!
Yes, the nation needs closure!
My 17 yo son unfortunately is a big trump fan. Yeah, I don’t know where I went wrong raising him. He used to like Obama when he was younger because his mom and I did. But trumpism rose up at a certain time of his life when he was hitting his teenage years and finding his own identity, and there was no stopping it. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve told him many times I’m fine with him having his own conservative political beliefs, but I think he’s wrongheaded to admire trump so much. The joke with my wife and I used to be “he likes trump so much because they both have the mind of a teenage boy” but it ceased being funny long ago.
Anyway, I mention all that because the last couple days he’s been yelling VOTER FRAUD! THE VOTE IS RIGGED! etc. etc. So just this morning we had this conversation:
ME: the vote counting process is bipartisan. There are R and D observers.
SON: No! They’re being shut out of the voting areas!!
ME: That’s not true. The trump lawsuits have been about whether the R observers can be 10 feet vs. 6 feet away from the counters, that’s all.
SON: You can see on the news they’re outside protesting!
ME: Those are random trumpers, not official observers. Answer me this: if there is such widespread voter fraud, why aren’t Repub congress people screaming bloody murder? They’ve all been very silent.
SON: (several seconds of silence with his mouth hanging open)…there’s one…
ME: Who?
SON: I…can’t remember right now
I don’t really see a path forward for Trump, and the PA election official said that there aren’t enough potentially contested mail-in votes received after the deadline in question, so the legal strategy probably won’t come into play.
The only thing that could possibly change the dynamics is for Biden to die or for all-out political and legal warfare in which Repubs go after individual electors or legislatures attempt to defy the will of the people, and I have to say, as fatalistic as I tend to be, I’ve been pleasantly surprised to see that most people are behaving themselves -at least for the time being.
If, God forbid, that happened, how would it change the dynamics of the election results at this point?
So if Trump was, well, not Trump, but like the 40 or so other presidential election losers, is this the point where he would make his concession speech?
I imagine they would wait until it was officially called by the media, which hopefully will be not too much longer…
Starting to get called.
Not Trump wins!!!
At this point, the most likely scenario is the votes still go for Biden and Harris and Harris becomes president.
