Nevermind.

Plus, Trump scorned, rejected, embittered, despondent, isolated, and unsupervised ?
If we thought his tweets incited violence before …
CNN just reporting that Foxnews has told staff that it should not use the term “president elect” for Biden even after it is called.
In 2016, Trump would, I assume, have a hissy fit if he wasn’t referred to as president elect, but I doubt Biden is all that concerned about (largely meaningless) titles. It would be like someone getting annoyed about others not referring to them as the heir apparent. You might be the heir apparent (or president elect), but if other people don’t use the title, it doesn’t change anything. Besides, all getting upset does is entertain the people that aren’t using it.

Murdoch is a friend of Trump’s and knows the network can only make money from stoking up the right. The man has no moral integrity and is a danger to democracy wherever he owns media.
NBC News just reported: GA SoS says there will definitely be a recount.
From 538 regarding NC and AK:
You might be wondering about North Carolina and Alaska, two unprojected states that we haven’t heard a peep from in days. Well, there’s a good reason for that: Both states accept absentee ballots that arrive as late as next week, and they won’t provide any updates until Nov. 10 (in Alaska) and Nov. 12 or 13 (in North Carolina). In fact, Alaska hasn’t released any absentee-ballot results yet, so that state (and its surprisingly competitive Senate race) is still up in the air.
Look, it’s very simple:
- Democrats told their voters to vote by mail, and they did.
- Trump told his voters NOT to vote by mail and to vote in person, and they did.
- · In-person votes are counted before mail-in ballots; thus:
- First-counted in-person returns showed a Trump lead
- Later-counted mail-in returns show a Biden lead
- Legal ballots postmarked before the polls closed, but received after the polls closed, have not been counted yet (as of 10:00 EST 11/06/20).
Regarding recounts (in any election, not just this one).
Should we the people be more concerned that you can count ballots multiple times and come up with different numbers each time?
In Stephanie W Wilson’s book Melania and Me, she tells some funny stories about how, during the transition, she (Melania)kept wanting the press releases to refer to her as the First Lady Elect.
Everyone kept trying to explain to her that no one voted for her, she wasn’t elected to anything and the term was just wrong. But she didn’t want to hear it.
Maricopa County’s results will be announced in 15 minutes. Arizona will surely be called if it goes to Biden.
Let’s take joy in the way it appears, but not forget that it is still not over. We have to maintain the focus, there are dark forces that will do anything to steal this victory from us. The fight will continue, and the losers will act out in any way they can. Their illusion of success has dissolved and they have no shame so they will act out in anger.

The difference is historically minimal. In 2016 the WI recount only moved the needle by 131 votes.

Anything that has a human element has a chance for a human error.* With lots of humans comes lots of potential for human error. However, I’d be more concerned if the tabulating were in the hands of just a few people because successful conspiracies become exponentially harder when you add more people. I’d rather have a few hundred votes differ every time I count a state than risk tens of thousands of votes get lost due to tampering.
However, I do think that the Trumpistas will bring this up, something like “Wisconsin’s first count was 20,102 for Biden, and the recount was 20,533 for Biden. This proves that the count is inaccurate and therefore should be thrown out.” Won’t work of course but they’ll try.
*(Completely automated things on the other hand have errors that are rarer but potentially worse because there aren’t sanity checks along the way.)
At seventeen he might not know about political skepticism yet. Having one’s political views defined by the parent’s views, or personal admiration, indicates a lack of skepticism.
I personally didn’t know how to approach politics with skepticism until senior year in high school (thank you, AP U.S. Government teacher). I also read this great book about apiculture shortly after high school.
There’s a saying in journalism, if your mother says she loves you, check it out. Maybe a more practical teaching exercise would involve debunking some left-wing conspiracy theory, like 9/11 being an inside job (one 2008 survey showed that Democrats were as likely to believe the 9/11 conspiracy as Republicans were to believe the Obama birther conspiracy).

You’re absolutely right. But now that Biden looks like he’s heading for a comfortably north of 270 total I’m breathing more easily than if he had stalled right at 270. A lot less room for shenanigans. There is still the prospect of violence from trumpers, but hopefully they are more bark than bite.

Not as long as the numbers are close.
Expecting there to be no error whatsoever, when such large numbers are concerned, isn’t reasonable.
Thanks Max! He has that disease that many seventeen year olds have: thinking he is absolutely right about everything. I hear it often clears up with age; I can only hope.
I just try to remember the (possibly apocryphal) quote from Mark Twain: “When I was 17, my father was so stupid, i didn’t want to be seen with him in public. When I was 24, I was amazed at how much the old man had learned in just 7 years.”
Oh yeah, I’m way more relaxed now too. But it will be a while before I can accept all this, life has burned me before.
Have fun, kids!
