Election Day [Week][Month[s]] [Year] 2020 follow-along thread

This.

Biden’s looking good for 306 electoral votes here. Very difficult to see how Trump’s lawyers can possibly strike out the votes of three states!

I still think there is still an outside chance for Biden to take take North Carolina. But a very outside chance…

What will they be calling him? /s

Clark County in Nevada just released the results of about 30,000 votes, which largely went to Biden; his lead in the state went from around 11K to just over 22K.

I’m really curious if that law will ever be tested. Seems pretty easy to have someone switch parties, get appointed, and then switch back.

In 2018, we picked up several red and borderline seats. And this time we lost some of them, which happens sometimes.

I don’t think we should focus on this negative. Turnout was astronomical – Democrats turned out like, literally, never before. That should be celebrated. The problem is that so did Republicans, enough to keep us from a massive overwhelming victory. But we shouldn’t minimize flipping AZ and GA, getting back the “blue wall” states, and having a shot at the Senate with the GA runoffs.

Beating an incumbent president is very, very rare, and Biden did it. Not as big a victory as we hoped, but this was still a big victory. We should celebrate and be excited, even as we recognize the need to keep fighting.

If the governor was a Democrat, my bet is that a replacement would be Non-Trumper Former senator Republican Jeff Flake, with a good chance that he would switch parties.

Republicans can’t handle defeat, and Democrats just can’t seem to handle victory. This was victory.

There is no such rule ( governors must appoint senators from the same party as the one they are replacing) in Kentucky, Although I’ve heard this discussed extensively. I still took the time to confirm this before posting.

Vacancies in the United States Senate

I can. I hope it’s nothing trivial.

No one is probably more elated than Melania. That is one ex First Lady who can’t wait to get the hell out of Washington.

I’m overhearing one of our (museum) volunteers talking on the phone right now, and literally everything he is saying is wrong: WI had more votes than registered voters, Biden couldn’t win because only 12 people showed up at his rallies, Democrats are preventing Republicans from observing the counts, etc, etc. The myth of the stolen election is gonna have legs; it’ll persist longer than Benghazi, if not for decades to come, I have no doubt.

A pox on Fox News, social media and all their firehose-stream of bullshit.

I saw some article yesterday, maybe on WaPo, an opinion article of course, that seemed to assume the Trumps would have influence for years to come despite the old windbag losing 2020. I don’t know why that would be so. AFAIK other one- termers like Carter and Bush I weren’t the boss of their party after the fact. Maybe Bush (family) a little since Bush II won later, but Jeb didn’t make it. Of course Trump is such a loudmouth and half the country loves that so I guess anything is possible. I’d just love him to be muted by everyone because he peddles harmful lies only.

Still afraid to fully count on a Biden win too. It’s gonna be a rough time until the electors vote (should have been abolished long before) and from now until Inauguration Day Trump is going to do everything he can to wreck the country (further) and try to cheat himself into a second term through the courts or any other means.

Even if there were, the ultimate sweet justice were for the governor to not name a replacement for ten months, leaving the Rs a vote short.

I agree, and I am over the moon to know we’ll see the back ends of Bill Barr, Mike Pompeo, Jared Kushner and far too many others to name. Just restoring some normalcy back to the DOJ is huge. There are many, many good things that will come out of a Biden presidency.

I am also ecstatic at MADAM VICE PRESIDENT KAMALA HARRIS!! Finally, finally – it’s been a bloody long time since Geraldine Ferraro.

However – and I do hate to say it – winning this election was the easy part. We must keep this firmly in mind going forward. Those 2 Georgia Senate seats are about to become the most important political pursuit in the world.

I’d love for Twitter to ban him for life and let him blow all his money trying to sue them. And for Fox to drop him completely as payback for all his badmouthing of them.

Agreed. But, for me, that one human being could vote for the fascist imbecile is deeply disappointing. Multiply that by millions, and you can see why so many of us are vacillating between euphoria and sadness today.

Big boost for Biden in Nevada, getting 20,000 votes from Clark county, and increasing his lead by about 10,000 votes.

They really weren’t bosses of their party during the fact either. Trump will have continued influence, even as he investigated and tried for his crimes, even after his treason is revealed, even if he is in jail.

These are the myths that give rise to fascism. Look how much trouble we have with the Lost Cause. Look at Germany’s trouble with the Stabbed in the Back narrative. The Stolen Election narrative must be cut at the stem. The alternative is too horrible to contemplate (as if we haven’t all been contemplating it for 4 years now)
