Election Day [Week][Month[s]] [Year] 2020 follow-along thread

As I said about a thousand posts upthread (this thread is really moving quickly!), I’m not sure you draw this conclusion.

It’s incredibly difficult to be sure about the effects of a Libertarian candidate on a race. Some people assume that the vast majority of Libertarian voters would otherwise have voted Republican, but exit polls and other investigations of Libertarian voting show that this just isn’t the case, or not always anyway. The Libertarians get more votes from disaffected Democrats than some people want to admit, and, more importantly, a significant number of Libertarian voters simply won’t vote if their only choice is a Democrat or a Republican.

I admit that pardons is one area of presidential power where I don’t have much expertise, but can a president pardon himself pre-emptively, in the absence of a charge or a conviction? I would be very surprised if Trump could issue a blanket pardon, relieving himself of any consequences even from future prosecutions.

If he can, in fact, do that, it’s a travesty of the pardon privilege.

We have no idea, because nobody has tried it.

In fact, we aren’t even sure that Ford’s pardon of Nixon was totally binding because no charges were pursued so the pardon wasn’t tested. That’s my understand at least - willing to be corrected.

I think your overall point is well taken. However, with Jorgensen pulling in over 60,000 votes and the margin between Biden and Trump at just over 1,000, I feel pretty comfortable saying that Jorgensen probably sealed the deal in this case in GA.

Both John James, who ran against Gary Peters for Senate in my state, and Eric Esshaki, who ran against Haley Stevens for Rep in my district, lost but are also refusing to concede. What trumping crybabies.

I bet Bill Barr has just stopped answering his phone. As has Mike Pence.

I wish I was a fly on the wall in Barr’s house or office or wherever he is now. I wish I was the fly on Pence’s head.

I wonder if Pence will concede before Trump.

I’ve gotta confess, I thought some of you guys were really over the top in your “What if Trump won’t Leave” speculations, but now I think you were right.
Which may be good. Anyone with good common sense would concede before they lose their chance to fight another day - but now I’m starting to think that Trump might have to be forcibly removed.

Hilarious.

I started this thread awhile back. I’m looking through it right now to see what we all thought at the time.

Two comforting thoughts:

A recount is not a do-over. They don’t go trolling for new ballots; they simply re-count (like it says on the tin) the ballots already in hand. It seldom amounts to much.

My nightmare before the election was that Trump would contest every state he lost, and that his appointed minions in the judiciary would send things straight on the SCOTUS. But it seems apparent that even conservative judges have some standards, and what to see some evidence of fraud before they entertain a lawsuit. I expect every Trump challenge to be laughed out of court immediately.

As Gerald Ford said: Our long national nightmare is over.

That “I don’t wanna go” toddler tantrum video is AWESOME.

Frog-marched out of the White House would be great, El Chapo style, with a female LEO twisting his head toward the cameras.

Amen. I’ve been waiting to quote that here for four friggin’ years.

Compared to the last 4 years, the Watergate scandal was a brief bad dream. At least Nixon had the sense to listen to the fat lady singing.

Ahahahahahahaha! Saving that in case Trump loses.

It’s happened 12 times in 58 US elections prior to this one. Three times in the past 50 years. If someone wants to reduce those fractions further, they can count the number of two-term presidents who chose not to or weren’t allowed to run again. Is there a reason you’re using bad data to overpromote Biden’s achievement?

Are you in a t-minus-48-hours time warp or something?

No snark intended — genuinely curious!

Georgia up to 1584 for Biden 99% reported
Penn is up to 9748 for Biden at 98% reported
Arizona is at 43779 for Biden at 90% reported. No change
Nevada is up to 20542 for Biden at 86% reported.

N. Carolina for Trump 76701 94% reported.
