Election Day [Week][Month[s]] [Year] 2020 follow-along thread

Was he smiling when he got the two scoops of ice cream to everyone else’s one scoop?

No. He’d have to do that to several states. Aint gonna happen.

I don’t recall seeing a pic specifically of that, but it’s exactly the kind of situation where I’d have expected to see that bigly ugly smugly conman smirk.

Montana had it’s first mail-in election (the primaries were also). The state unfortunately went deep red. Funny no one is protesting these mail-in votes!

They’re either not compassionate or not intelligent. The ones who care about you would not give a damn about you if you were not in their social circle. The ones who think they have it all figured out wouldn’t know critical thinking if it slapped them in the face with a two-by-four. I’m so done making excuses for them.

COUNT ALL THE VOTES! Then, once we know the results, we can best decide if we should toss out all the votes! That’s scientific data-driven decision-making!

I have to share something that is personally profound:

I paint murals for a living and live in one of the reddest states there is. Over the last few years, I’ve done more American Flag murals than anyone should have to paint outside of some form of weird punishment.

I’ve grown to dislike the flag in general. For four years, I’ve been deeply ashamed of what it means. My buddy and I were talking about how weird it is that when we see someone waving the American flag–the basic symbol of our nation, we automatically think “MAGA nut/Red Hatter.”

A few years ago I moved into the house where I live now and it’s always had this nice flag pole thing on top of the porch. I’ve ruminated on flying a Jolly Roger or a local sports team flag, but always go “meh” and forget it.

This morning I decided to go buy an American flag. I’m once again awash in patriotism, and for the first time in 4 years feel like that American flag belongs to US again. I’m taking that bitch back. It’s MINE. And it’s nice to finally put that flag dealy to good use.

That’s what Trump says, but what he’s actually filed in court is different: In Pennsylvania, that ballots received after Nov 3 don’t count. That would only impact 1000 ballots or so and wouldn’t change the outcome.

I completely understand this.

“Welcome back to the fight. This time I know our side will win.”

Berkeley Breathed just posted this on Facebook.

That won’t last long.

I’ve been wondering whether what was going on was that states in possible recount territory won’t be called until after the recount (or, I suppose, after a declaration that there won’t be; but in Georgia it might be automatic?)

Anybody have any idea whether recounts would go faster or slower than the first count? On the one hand they won’t have to open envelopes, let alone two sets of them; plus which I don’t see any sense in re-checking signatures on outer envelopes as there shouldn’t be any way to tie them to any individual vote; but on the other hand maybe they have to hand count paper ballots that were machine read on the first round, or something else of the sort?

That is a really, really weird photo.

Poor Barron: ‘They made me sit on this lion. I really don’t know why.’

I doubt any court would even hear it. States have been taking ballots as mail-in in limited cases for many years. At least one state has been taking mail-in only for multiple elections. We’d have to void every election the country’s had since I don’t know when. (Which would, of course, void the appointments of the Supremes --)

I’ve been waving a flag in protests since around 1970. It’s my flag too, no political position owns it.

And isn’t it the common wisdom that G.I.s spread the “Spanish” flu to Europe? So, Wilson responsible for a global pandemic, as well!

Yeah, my wife and I took two walk and I went on a bike ride with my son. Most signs were gone, but a few flags were still up. Hopefully, the flags will go away as well.

It’s divorce time, baby. I know people always predicted the Clintons would split up, but come on. Melania looks like she HATES Donald.

Supposedly 55% of white women came out for Trump–a higher proportion than who came out for him in 2016. This is both disappointing and surprising, given all the white women who have been expressing “trumpgret” over the past four years. Does anyone have any insight they’d like to share that might explain this? It’s so confusing.

Trump:
I see the Novichok that knocks it out in a minute, one minute. And is there a way we can do something like that by injection inside, or almost a cleaning? Because you see it gets inside the brain and it does a tremendous number on the brain, so it would be interesting to check that.

We’ve taken the high road for years. A few people jeering isn’t a Biden Truck convoy trying to run the limo off the road.

Today I drove around the neighborhood and laughed every time I saw an empty flagpole.

My brother says that, too. But if that’s where we stop, then we never reconcile with these people. The most basic connections of society—family and friends—become severely damaged or ruined. That price is too high IMO. We have enough other gaps to bridge already.

And if we don’t understand why they went to the dark side, it isn’t that diffcult for someone else to pick up Trump’s play book and use it again. How do we reconcile Nazi Germany, for instance? When huge numbers of people go along with something evil, they’re all just lacking, so we shrug and walk away?

When the internet first became widely available, people fell for things like phishing scams. With time, many figured out how that worked, what to look out for, etc. This is similar. Look at how social media feeds information that corroborates whatever you believe, how dollars drove them to allow all kinds of false shit. Regulation? Accountability?

I saw the first 15 minutes of Trump’s conference Thursday night and it scared the fuck out of me. It seemed like we were teetering between reality and what the delusional leader of the country would like to force down our throats. I just don’t think we can let this go without making sure it can’t happen again. But I’m equally tempted to find a place outside the US to live.

That article posted upthread—my brother sent me that yesterday, via my nephew’s wife.

Failed state article

YMMV

I may have missed it–has anyone interviewed the people at Four Seasons Total Landscaping? I really want to know how that phone call went down.

Trump is still spitting out lies on Twitter. It would be amusing if we all didn’t have to wait until January 2021.

Moderating: You and many others have hijacked this thread to talk about irrelevant systems in other countries. Get this straight. Electors are chosen to do one thing and one thing only and that is to choose the candidate voted on by the voters. They have no other function and have no discretion. The whole system is a 232 year old relic having no function today. The next person who hijacks this thread to tell about legislators in Timbuktu will get a warning.
