Election Day [Week][Month[s]] [Year] 2020 follow-along thread

I like to imagine a Four Seasons Total Landscaping employee trying to stifle laughter as they say “Sure, you can have your Very Important Donald Trump Press Conference here.”

Then later some poor bastard had to tell Trump to change his official press tweet.

Absolutely!

My overwhelming feeling in '08 was optimism, tinged with relief.

This time, it’s reversed- relief, tinged with optimism.

Can’t wait to return somewhat to normalcy.

The mini-timeline of events from the first phone call to someone realizing a mistake was made to the decision to just… go ahead with it sounds like an SNL skit in real life. If Rudy had a cowbell it’d be perfect.

This is a really great encapsulation of my own feelings toward 2008 and 2020!

This is 100% what happened. Why didn’t they re-schedule?

The adult bookstore wasn’t open, and the cremation place doesn’t take people who are politically dead in the water.

I just want to say as a garden business owner that I’ve never felt so sullied in all my life.
But still - a golden situation; great photo of the place.
Too bad there was no Big Appearance there, with President McLoserFace getting periodically drowned out by repaired-on lawn mowers and line trimmers firing up.

My kids are 9 & 11. My older kid remembers Obama and he has fond memories of him. My younger kid sort of has vague feelings, but she doesn’t really remember him being president. She was, however, devastated four years ago when Hillary lost. My wife and I spent a lot of time talking with them about the amazing milestone it would be to have a woman president.

Now, for the past year, we as a family have been studying all of the Democratic candidates as they announced their candidacies, we’ve talked about the primary process, we tracked delegates during the primaries, our kids created campaign posters for their favorites, we studied polls. We sat around and discussed and made donations to candidates (my son had us donate to Mayor Pete, my daughter had us donate to Warren). We spent the summer learning all we could about Joe, and then Kamala. The four of us watched with uneasiness on Tuesday as results came in, until it was time for the kids to go to bed. We’ve read news stories and checked the AP projections and returns all week. The past four years have felt like 10, the past year has felt like four and the past four days have felt like a week.

But then at 8pm EST tonight, we sat on the couch as a family and watched Joe and Kamala give their amazing speeches. And I got teary watching the the president- and vice-president-elect, and watching my kids watch the speeches, because I knew that my kids, and kids all across the country, wouldn’t have to have any more memories of an abominable, immoral criminal conman as the president during their formative years. We can actually let our kids watch the presidential speeches again.

I am damn-well sure Joe Biden was the absolute right man to run this race right now and win this election. A salve for our nation. Just beautiful day.

Maybe they then called the Four Seasons Hotel and got turned down. (Probably not, but it’s possible. I know I read that the hotel scrambled to put out the word “no! not us! no!” after the initial tweet from the orange toddler.

A short NYT piece that gives some details (including that the mistake happened after the booking): https://www.nytimes.com/live/2020/11/07/us/biden-trump#which-four-seasons-oh-not-that-one

I’m hoping that some poor put upon staffer, read the writing on the wall, and did it on purpose, on their way out the door as a giant FU to Trump and Rudy.

My theory is that they first announced it would be at the Four Seasons, and then after that called the hotel – and got turned down. So they went scrambling for someplace else called Four Seasons, and didn’t realize how bad it was going to be until they showed up (a landscaping company sounds like it ought to have nice landscaping, doesn’t it? though the one nearest me, in an entirely different fashion, doesn’t).

And – yeah. I wasn’t for Biden when this year started. But I like him a whole lot better now than I did then. It was a gradual shift, I think, and it took a while to realize that I’d changed my mind.

Of course, the only way he’ll actually get congressional-level Republicans to work with him is if he’s really, really good at twisting arms in the back room. But he might be. He’s been there a long time; he probably knows where some interesting bodies are buried. (Metaphorical bodies. I hope.) – though the flaw in that theory is that he didn’t pull it off as vice president. Still, I can hope. And hope for Georgia in January.

Actually, I bet that landscaping company is owned by some local Trump fan who donated enough that the local campaign office knew him, and they were probably just trying to save the $300 bucks or so the airport Hilton would’ve charged. Because they’re cheap. You know their paying for all of this running around from state to state ginning up crowds with stupid press conferences out of their own pockets, right? Do you think they’ll get reimbursed?
It’s possible that they expected Four Seasons Landscaping to look nice, with maybe some, you know, landscaping. But jeez, once you see it why not say no thanks and find someplace nicer - I know it’s short notice but the bar’s not that high.
The only explanation is that Guiliani is, literally, insane. Seriously. He was always a thoroughly unpleasant man, but he did get elected mayor of a Democratic city twice. He was an actual federal prosecutor before that. He should be the literal poster child for right wing media brain damage.

Notre Dame and Clemson are now in their second overtime period, which makes me wonder if SNL will go on at all tonight. I want to see tonight’s show TONIGHT, dammit!

Thanks, Corey, you Busey-inflected raging pus-knuckle, for backing my livelihood, just giving me those warm fuzzies.
At least he saved face for that whole situation with that move.

Based on that article and the concern that they couldn’t find a location in Philadelphia for a press conference where they wouldn’t be harassed, couldn’t they have just . . . rented a conference room somewhere?

I was not enthusiastic for Biden TBH. I’m more progressive then he is. But seeing him up on that podium made me wonder if my lack of enthusiasm was from feeling beaten and unhopeful as a Democrat. Because now that he won, I’m really looking forward to his progress. And today I’m actually proud to be a Democrat rather than feeling like I’m just latching on to the best of two options.

I was skeptical of Joe myself, but I missed something then. He may be very vanilla but the other side of that was it just proved impossible to whip up any hate for him. Sleepy Joe was the best Trump could come up with, and that never really landed. And he managed, successfully, to just let all that Hunter noise slide off, and it didn’t hurt him. That’s his experience showing.

There might be reason to be hopeful about those two GA senate seats. Georgia Democrats are fired up and the Republicans don’t have Trump. I’m hoping Trump acts like a little baby and tells his supporters not to vote because the Senate Republicans didn’t help him fight the election.

Me, too. Anyway, the game just ended. It looks like a huge Coronafest on the field now.

crap, local news now on
