Yes. Me.
I am proud of you dude.
Do try to find his monologue. I’m going to try and watch it again tomorrow.
“Y’hear that twang in their voice, and you think ‘Whoa, they’re not going to be wearing a mask’… Y’all didn’t have a problem with wearing a mask at your Klan rally, put it on at the WalMart!”
I wish I had a good explanation for why as of this moment Predictit is still offering 10 : 1 odds on Trump to win Pennsylvania. This just feels like a bad zombie movie where the bad guy keeps coming back from the dead.
Earlier today I was in my car and on NPR they had a guy from BBC, and he made some great points. There was no fraud, our voting machines weren’t hacked, Russian disinforamtion did not matter, the votes are all being counted. And I will add to that, there is no rioting in the streets from the Proud Boys or others, FOX does not have huge banner headlines proclaiming fraud, even the vile Laura Ingrham on FOX last night backed off of that, the election will not go to the Supreme Court. Our fucked up Electoral College system worked. And while we will never be rid of it, it won’t matter much in the future with blue Georgia - maybe North Carolina next time, maybe Texas and Florida in 2028 at the latest.
on You Tube already.
The latest out of Arizona is that Trump & Co. are still trying to use those Sharpies as the basis for a lawsuit.
You laugh, but now Four Seasons’ best hedge guy is Secretary of the Interior.
Weird. Somehow that earlier link is missing the “repacked Sharpie suit” article. Try this one.
I was watching Downfall (2004) earlier tonight. For those not familiar there is a famous scene where Hitler berates his generals that has been turned into several hilarious memes, but the the actual movie itself is really good. Though I fell asleep (due to being up for 12 hours, not boredom) it is an extra layer of schadenfreude (no pun intended) to the current downfall of Trump here in the US. I couldn’t stop giggling as I watched Nazi’s burning files and panicking and trying to convince Hitler that the war was lost only to have Hitler denying it at the cost of everything, including the German people themselves.
Anyhoo … what a hoot. I recommend it, I mean watching it maybe side by side with Rudy’s press conference or while scrolling through a selection of Trump’s tweets. It’s fun.
So the stage was crowded when Biden removed his mask?
No, just family - y’know, within his bubble.
And wasn’t there a clear shield between him and his audience - bulletproof glass, IIRC.
All a tempest in a teapot.
And an outdoor stage that wasn’t enclosed. That said, I’d have preferred he re-mask after his speech, though I imagine the excitement of being elected president might be a little distracting.
In case anyone hasn’t seen these yet – There are at least two parodies of the Downfall scene that I’ve come across that have him ranting about losing the election. They are about 3 to 4 minutes long each. Check them out . . .
Heh - 2 hours without a post. Good to see you guys get some well-earned sleep.
Both the speeches were great. It’s definitely reassuring to have a president elect who is competent and will hire competent people.
I like that Biden took the high road and emphasized the future and healing.
Loved to see the dancing in the streets, and particularly the fact that 90% of the people were masked.
There was a moment during the fireworks when the showed a closeup of Biden and you could absolutely read “I can’t believe I won” in his eyes.
Harris’ great nieces are the cutest kids ever.
I am worried about Trump’s stability and what he will do now. I also don’t want to sink to his level For me:
Dancing in the streets-OK
Cheering-OK
Flipping Trump off to his face-not OK
Booing him in person-not OK
Posting on a message board “ Choke on all of today’s liberal tears (of joy)”- probably OK
Let’s follow Biden’s lead, embrace our better angels and continue to take the high road.
And for all those posted pages back about how it really wouldn’t make a difference if the media technically called the election because nothing is over until the votes are technically complete-apparently, it does make a huge difference!
Meanwhile, the War on (some) Drugs is over! Our boys are coming home.
I’m not being harsh. I made no judgement whatsoever. I merely described what happened.
Personally, given he was in the moment and everyone ran up to him, I’d give the whole thing a pass a a momentary oversight not worth fussing about.
Meh, your perception of what’s “Trump’s level” is still insanely high. To not sink to Trump’s depths would involve mere acts like
- do not feed insane personality cults towards yourself,
- do not support violent Nazis and enflame civil unrest,
- do not spread dangerous health care misinformation nor fail to coordinate a federal response to a global pandemic which cost ~250K Americans their lives…
Flipping Trump off or booing him is nowhere near the depths he and his supporters sank. Remember Q-anon, Birtherism, the daily ubiquitous lies, the vain attempts at stealing this recent election (‘stop the count’), the threats to lock-up his political opponents (Hillary, Obama, the Biden’s), the demands for indefinite rule/multiple terms, the daily delegitimizing political criticisms, the daily delegitimization of the press / media, breaking up families and tossing kids in cages never to be reunited.
There’s so many levels of shit that it’s impossible to even keep all of these things in one’s memory. But he did it. And he was supported through it all. And he often used these types of social/political/informal norms, courtesies, and proprieties to freely engage in his horrific attacks against your system. Trump was never reined-in. Hell he and his infectious family were even allowed to get within a hair’s breath of giving Biden covid because he was allowed an “honour system” testing pass during the first debate (where he showed 0 respect and restraint for holding a damn debate).
I feel to tell people to “hold back” their expressions of visceral disgust at Trump or Trumperism is to actively participate in the past 4 years of enablement and acceptance. Nothing should be held back. There needs to be a reckoning of what happened. Far more serious things than vulgar gestures need to be done. People should be imprisoned.
