Election Day [Week][Month[s]] [Year] 2020 follow-along thread

From a golden escalator to this.

Isn’t it wonderful?

This is very true and mirrors my feelings. However it also reminds us that Biden’s effort to unite politics is super ambitious. He’s effectively asking people to come to the centre and that will freeze out the undesirables who will not stay silent - they will still be there and shouting loudly. But at least that’s where they have usually resided in the past; under bridges and in the shadows. But if you think about it, to succeed it cannot be a partisan effort to eliminate the far right; Biden will also have to tolerate the weakening of the far left (I say far left in the US sense). There is no other way this project succeeds.

I read an article yesterday saying that the Four Seasons was not a booking error, but rather that the venue was donated by a Trump supporter. The issue seems to have been that no one took a look at the place before accepting the offer. Trump may have misunderstood where the event would take place, but Giuliani knew.

Had an idea (or perhaps a delusion): How about a Trump Counter-Library? Fill it with the worst of CFSG’s excrescences, just in case we start to develop collective amnesia about the bullet we dodged in 2020. Though either it would have to be enormous, or someone would have to wade through the mountain of material to select the exhibits (and i wouldn’t envy whatever unfortunate had that job).

What is CFSG? I checked Acronym Finder, but none of the seven suggested meanings seems likely.

Cheetoh-Faced Shit Gibbon. I think it’s native to the SDMB.

I would put McTurtle at Neutral-Evil. If Lawful-Evil gives you his word on something, it will be kept (although you’ll surely want to check the fine print/exact wording). So far as I know, Yertle has offered no rationale as to why a Democratic president’s SCOTUS appointment is held up for ten months so “the people can have a voice” which way the court goes, yet rams through an unpopular Republican president"s appointment just weeks before the election.

It was a fellow in Scotland who hung that on Trump. I think it was about Trump’s (proposed?) golf course there.

McConnell will keep his word if he gives it to you. That is still one norm the senate maintains. Congresscritters have to wheel and deal and if they come to an agreement with you they will keep it.

What he says to the news as a rationale for whatever he is up to is something else. Politicians often contradict themselves and there seems almost no downside for them doing it.

Here’s the source. I got to it from Vox, but the original report is NYT:

In reality, the mistake was not in the booking, but in a garbled game of telephone. Mr. Giuliani and the Trump campaign adviser Corey Lewandowski told the president on Saturday morning their intended location for the news conference and he misunderstood, assuming it was an upscale hotel, according to multiple people familiar with the matter.

But the campaign had always intended to hold the news conference in a friendlier part of town. The president’s team had struggled with news conferences in this Democratic stronghold all week. Since Wednesday, the streets outside of the Convention Center have been filled with pro-Biden protesters chanting, “Count every vote!” On multiple occasions, the Trump campaign surrogates were drowned out and surrounded by the much larger pro-Biden crowd.

This could, of course, be face-saving bullshit. I had also read, I thought in this source, that the owner was a Trump supporter, but this morning see a statement that this business would have been proud to host any presidential candidate. Even if true, this all leaves open the question of who decided to book this particular venue, and why.

In an article last Thursday, I looked at the rise of the colorful Trumpian epithet shitgibbon . The word first hit it big last June when Donald Trump was called a “tiny fingered, Cheeto-faced, ferret wearing shitgibbon” on Twitter and then made an even bigger splash last week when Pennsylvania state Sen. Daylin Leach called the president a “fascist, loofa-faced, shit-gibbon.” But where did this exquisite creation come from, originally?

Some have assumed it must be Scottish, since the June insult came at the height of backlash against Trump’s visit to Scotland, where he was lambasted for his tonedeaf comments about the Brexit vote. But that tweet actually came from an Englishman, one who goes by MetalOllie on Twitter (and will only reveal that his first name is Darren due to online death threats). SOURCE

Thanks, I should stop going by memory.

Eh…I thought it was a Scottish person too.

Thanks for the education!

There’s an “Avengers: assemble!” video out with McCains face included (among others). Don’t have a link at the moment.

I wonder if the Landscape company booking ‘error’ could have been a final FU to Trump from some underling that had been abused for four years.

Arizona update:

Biden’s lead has been cut to 18,610 (which is 0.56%). There are 108k ballots left of which 45k are provisional. Trump needs 58.6% of the remaining votes to overtake.

There should be more numbers released this afternoon including Maricopa. It will be close but Biden maybe slightly favoured to hold on.

Is it this one?

I mean, I can believe they wanted a venue where thousands of people were dancing with Gritty and chanting stuff they didn’t want to hear. I do not believe that their venue of choice was not only a gross industrial mall, but that it just coincidentally sounded like the name of the kind of place you would normally hold such an event.

Your quote is slightly off. The actual tweet starts with a quotation mark, but doesn’t end with one. Is he quoting someone else or what?
