Election Day [Week][Month[s]] [Year] 2020 follow-along thread

Okay, get over here for your lashes with the proverbial wet noodle. Ten, no … make it 25.

There, now you have been punished and can dispense with the guilt, as the world has been restored to balance, at least this tiny corner of it… Go in peace. And ferchrissakes, don’t you EVER!!! do that again!

Given the obstruction of the current Administration, I wanted to see when this will well and truly be over. Apparently, states can officially start certifying votes tomorrow, so look for states with completed counts and no controversies to start certifying soon. December 8 is the “safe harbor” deadline for states to get their final electors in. The only state that has a certifying deadline later than this is California, which for some reason has a December 11 deadline but it’s California, so they will likely certify way before then. Of course, the electoral college votes on 12/14.

I would say, assuming that all of the legal challenges will fail, Trump should be expected to either concede or formally stage a coup by 12/8. I personally think that the Republicans will pressure him to concede, and he will immediately start running for 2024. Its a way for him to keep having rallies to stroke his ego with the additional benefit that he won’t have to even pretend to work. All he will have to do is golf, tweet, hold rallies and pander to his base (pretty much what he does now).

Sorry!

Missed the edit window, found in a Bloomberg article the numbers are 7,800 (with a few unnamed counties not reporting, could be big ones I suppose) and not included in the current 45K lead.

And what of the 100,000+ provisional ballots?

I don’t think it does. The PA website lists the number of mail ballots left by county and suggests the numbers were submitted on election day then goes on to say “counties may continue to accept ballots that are postmarked by November 3, 2020… etc etc”

UPDATE: Trump has taken another 412 off Biden’s lead in Arizona with a whopping 85.8% of votes cast in a new dump of 576 votes. Biden will be looking forward to those remaining Pima County numbers.

How I wish I could say I was. Sober as a goat.

I won’t!!! Believe me.

I’m beginning to think republicans won’t pressure him to concede, not until it’s over in the minds of his supporters, and that could be a while. But republicans want to delegitimize the democrats, and since they’ve been getting away with authoritarianism and conspiracy theories for the last decade, why stop now? It’s just going to get worse.

Trump lost, but the only way the madness stops is if the republicans lose Herbert Hoover style. Until that time comes, it’ll be the rare ‘good’ or ‘statesman’ republican that we rely on to step forward and put the rest of the party in check.

The PA SOS website is showing a grand total of 15 remaining unprocessed provisionals. But oddly enough it’s only showing 13,309 provisionals altogether (counted and uncounted) so I don’t know if a big chuck is still unrecorded, or if that 100K was a big overestimate.

Looking closer, county by county shows none in that 13K number for Philly or Allegheny. So a lot missing. Still, I think they’re being folded in as they’re counted not being set aside for a big final report? But not at all sure.

At the very least I think it is more likely than not that there will be no concessions offered before all the votes and recounts are done and everything is certified in late November/early December. By that point most of the spurious legal challenges will likely have been tossed and I think a steadily growing number of Republicans will be willing to move on. I don’t know if it will be a slow drip of defections or a floodgate.

But despite all the apocalyptic coup scenarios, I think the most probable outcome is that Trump is finally forced to grudgingly concede in some incredibly graceless fashion. He will of course continue to grumble about how he was cheated as he’s headed out the door and until the day he dies.

And defend lawsuits –

In other news, I think the Georgia incumbent R senators may be seriously afraid that they’re going to lose their runoffs.

Georgia’s Republican U.S. Senators Call On GOP State Election Chief To Resign

Georgia’s two Republican U.S. senators are calling on the state’s top election official — also a Republican — to resign Monday after alleging “too many failures in Georgia elections this year” but without mentioning specifics to support their claims. [ . . . ]

In a lengthy statement, Raffensperger hit back at the senators’ release, saying he would not be resigning and calling the accusations of a lack of transparency “laughable.”

This is a fundamental misreading of McConnell’s relationship with his caucus. They LOVE him, because he does everything he can to protect each and every one of them. He’s more than happy to let Collins and Murkowski break with him on key votes to show their “independence,” knowing that it’s good for them back home and that it usually won’t change the outcome. The only vote where he really got shocked by the outcome was the ACA repeal, and what did he do after that? Banish Collins and Murkowski from the caucus? Nope, he continued to support them and it paid off when he go them onboard with the Kavanaugh vote.

And of course the question Republicans would face if they did ditch Mitch is who would replace him. Cornyn? Thune? Could they do a better job of holding together a caucus that includes Rand Paul and Susan Collins?

Honestly, I’d be surprised if a single Republican Senator opposes McConnell’s reappointment as Majority Leaders.

So this happened (full title is: Fox News Cuts Away From Trump’s Press Secretary, Says It Can’t Air ‘False Claims’ in Good Conscience):

Neil Cavuto, I think? I can’t believe it, but he has become a sort of voice of reason over there.

It’s very dangerous to air these things. Loonies are watching and feeding off it.

Well now we know what Barr was up to:

Buckle up. Hang on tight to your democracy!

He cut away fast, too.

I’ve flipped through the first two horrid evening hosts, and I think they’ve reined them in a bit. They’re doing “bad polls suppress votes” and raving about their Senate wins and ranting about AOC and left wing mobs, but they are staying far away from “stolen election” -Tucker did talk about the Detroit lawsuit, but no rhetoric and someone even made them say it was based solely on the affidavits of a few people.

Good for them for not actively enabling sedition, I guess.

Baby steps.

Junior modding at its best!
