California has cast. 302-232 Biden.
Related to your question - at what point are electors chosen? Is it before the nominee is known?
As I understand it, elector slates are chosen long before the election. You’re actually voting for the electors of your choice.
Breaking News. William Barr resigns as Attorney General. Tweets Trump, to spend the holidays with his family.
Gee, most people just take a week off.
No, there have been many elections without any faithless electors. The last one before 2016 was in 2004, and it seems to have been someone who was simply confused (an elector pledged to Kerry cast their ballot for John Edwards, his VP candidate, instead).
Thanks. I guess I was kind of hoping that there would be one elector in some red state who, after observing Trump’s behavior over the past month, would have cast a vote for Mike Pence, or the Ghost of Ronald Reagan, or something. That would have been kind of funny, but probably not worth it if it stirred up another crapstorm of objections from the GOP.
Is this for real or a joke? I suppose it ought to be obvious, but these are strange times we live in. (I’m guessing joke as I don’t see any news reports yet, but this wouldn’t be the first time the SDMB proved the fastest source of info.)
ETA: Real! You beat my NYT news feed by a few minutes. Wow.

That leaves Barr with more time for his first love, the bagpipes.
And Michigan Republican representative Paul Mitchell has switched to being an independent.
Excerpt from his letter:
“If Republican leaders collectively sit back and tolerate unfounded conspiracy theories and “stop the steal” rallies without speaking out for our electoral process, which the Department of Homeland Security said was “the most secure in American history,” our nation will be damaged. I have spoken out clearly and forcefully in opposition to these messages. However, with the leadership of the Republican Party and our Republican Conference in the House actively participating in at least some of those efforts, I fear long-term harm to our democracy.”
If you ask GOP house members in 2022 who won the 2020 election, my bet is that a majority would answer “Trump”. They will never acknowledge Biden as president, because they are seditious traitors, who would rather destroy their own country rather than admit error.
Well good for him. (And that’s a doozy of a letter.)
– hey, R Senators: you really ought to read that letter.
“Spend more time with his family”
Ha ha ha ha ha!
Under the bus you go, sparky.
Assuming Hawaii’s are faithful, this means that Biden will get two more electoral votes than Trump’s “landslide.” Trump also won 306 electors but two were faithless.
All signs seem to indicate this will be a fully faithful election and Biden will get all 306. Ouch, that must sting.
I thought that was one helluva good letter.
If he runs in the 2022 election with an (I) after his name, then I’ll be impressed. For now, he’s not really risking anything.
No, he’s apparently retiring. Sorta like Jeff Flake - outrage at Trump only peaks when you’re about to retire.
It’s official folks:
GA case (Borland v Raffensperger) was appealed the GA Supreme Court. It was denied very shortly later.
