Election Day [Week][Month[s]] [Year] 2020 follow-along thread

Do we have confirmation that Donald is speaking tonight at 9? I expect another lengthy Airing Of The Grievances and some pardons that will piss off the right people but it’s beginning to appear that the mutterings of invoking the 25th have scared him a little.

Even if he wrote every word of it himself, there is significantly non-zero chance that he’ll say something completely opposite later.

A senator who is a friend of Pence said that Mike Pence is furious. Pence is about as calm as you see on TV and the senator said he has never seen Pence so mad. Paraphrasing Pence: “After everything I’ve done for him, he says I lack courage.”

Hey, I didn’t think the leopards would eat my face!

If he really did say that it shows an appalling lack of awareness.

Hate to tell you, Mikey. You do.
Come to think of it, he lacks a whole host of redeeming qualities.

Yeah, that’s so incredibly un-self-aware, it must be a parody. “After constantly being too cowardly to risk crossing him, he says I lack courage!”

Hell, from Trump’s perspective, his lack of courage was his most admirable trait!

Biden knocked it out of the park with his speech today. Fired up Joe is much better than Civility for the sake of civility Joe.

Merrick Garland sounded like a man who is not going to waste any time either. Enough is enough.

Well,it all goes back to Republicans, by their nature, saying things that make them feel good to say, but not actually believing just abut anything that they actually say.
(I’m 7hrs behind in this thread, so I have some catching up to do.)

And occasionally punched in the face.
(Only 6 hrs behind now…)

It won’t. They’ve tolerated 4 years of his moronic, angry child tweets. Only when their own safety was threatened yesterday by Trump’s drooling lunatics did they take notice. They are sick people.
(Discourse just prompted me to multi-quote. I’ll stop for a while.)

Actually, when Schumer recommended that Pence and the cabinet invoke the 25th, he also said that if they refused, then Congress should go into section and start impeachment proceedings.

Also, as far as I’m aware, there is no constitutional or legal impediment to pursuing both courses simultaneously. Let’s make it a race, and see who gets to the finish line first.

Boot to the head, nyah, nyahh…

Maybe the Wizard of Jesus gave him some courage, because I saw something on CNN that seemed to indicate that Trump threatened him at their meeting Tuesday, telling him there would be “major consequences” if he didn’t comply and overturn the election.

Hey Mikey — you were OK with being the lookout, then when he wanted you to get behind the wheel of the getaway car, you girded your loins and did it for Jesus, then he insisted that you actually go inside the bank with a machine gun and you were too intimidated to say no so you pretended you were doing God’s work. Then they told you to slit the throat of the hostage and you couldn’t stomach it so you said no, so then he tried to have you murdered and we’re supposed to think that you are showing courage by getting mad at him?

You’ve spent the last four years neck deep in a criminal enterprise, dude. You need consequences.

I ended up watching afternoon Fox most of the afternoon, and they were pretty even-handed — I had been channel surfing and I one point I looked up and said…wow, this is afternoon Fox - it took me forever to notice.

They had some crazy Trump supporter that said poor beleaguered Trump was just exercising his 1st Amendment rights by expressing his feelings and …my all time favorite…we need to get to the bottom of why 75 million Americans feel this election was stolen. But he was fighting with Geraldo who wanted Trump immediately removed from office and investigated for insurrection.

And they showed the FBI tip line number, frequently and in large type, looking for info to help identify the rioters. One guy did talk about BLM riots and Democrats but he didn’t equate, he said acquiescence was different from incitement.

Then the clock struck 5 and Fox turned into Bullshit Central in a hot minute.

Mr. President, the certificate of the electoral vote of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts seems to be regular in form, and authentic; and it appears threrefrom that Donald J. Trump from the State of Florida received 11 boot to the head!

For those who may not recognize the reference, it’s from one of my favorite comedy routines:

May McConnell rue the day his SCOTUS appointment was scuttled.

I know that “Trump” and “planning” are mutually exclusive, contradiction in terms; but bear with me here.

What was Trump’s coup plan? Even a hare-brained scheme is a scheme, with steps 1, 2 and 3. But I don’t see it. It feels like the Underpants Gnomes’ business model:

1 Storm the Capitol
2 ???
3 Get second term!

or

1 Pence says “I reject these electoral votes”
2 ???
3 Get second term!

We may need to wait for Mark Meadows’ tell-all book.

While I don’t have an answer (and all of us can only speculate anyway), I just wanted to add that Ghouliani was hellbent on getting Coach Potatoville to object and cause delay “for at least a day…if we can just get another day…”

Of course being the bumbling moron he is, Ghouli called some random other senator and never got his voice mail through to Tuberville.

I don’t know what ace in the hole they thought they had if they could just delay the certification for a day or so, but that seems to both Team Tramp’s plan and the only conceivable “victory” that could be accomplished by the mob.

As mentioned, it’s heroic and pragmatic that Congress reconvened to make it happen last night.

So I’m not sure they were doing much else other than buying more time. With Tramp, that is what he does–he just wants to kick the can a liiiiiittle further down the road, and maybe he can weasel something out.
