Election Day [Week][Month[s]] [Year] 2020 follow-along thread

Chavez was 50 years ago. Were not talking California fruit pickers being mistreated anymore.

The latinos your talking about now are the children and grandchildren of those immigrants who many cannot even speak spanish and are totally integrated into american society. They live in all 50 states (we have a growing latino population in South Dakota). They might have just as much of a problem with illegal immigration as anyone else.

Watch the video I linked to above for more information.

Then why the objection to Republican “Voters are wrong”?

But… When don’t they?

These are my neighbors, that actively vote against their own self-interest, because they lack the tools to make an informed decision… And have been conditioned to believe that any attempts provide them or their descendents with said tools is “socialism”, and anything that would directly benefit them (but is proposed by a Democrat) is “socialism”… They have an instantaneous Pavlovian response to that word, and an enormous industry of RW propaganda in FOX and talk radio reinforcing it day after day.

Maybe the “stupid” label doesn’t help, but at this point, they truly can’t be “fixed”.

Sure seems that way. Winning Nevada, Wisconsin and Michigan wins the presidency for Biden and Trump’s lead in Michigan has been dwindling all day. CNN had a Wayne County (aka Detroit) election official on a while back and she said votes there are still being counted. Unless the trend reverses itself, Biden should be in the lead there in a few hours.

What about the time Biden said “if you dont vote for me you aint black”.

This, for sure. I really hope that instead of screaming bloody murder and calling the country stupid, that the Democrats will learn to jettison or at least distance themselves from the very vocal extreme portions of the party, and start being more inclusive.

Well, it’s a campaign that before the election was understood to not think “Latinos were part of the path to victory” and sent a Republican to do what little outreach they did. Progressives were saying for months that it was a dangerous approach to not be doing better outreach.

Then the election comes around and Latinos seem to have voted for Republicans in too large numbers, and people are all like “these fucking idiots! These subhuman cretins!”

I’m not saying that Biden has garbage economic policies. I’m not saying he doesn’t care about these issues at all. I’m saying there’s different ways to sell things, and if you don’t even really try, it’s not really reasonable to say there was nothing you could have done. If you think every person in Florida who didn’t vote for Biden is demented and unreachable, then we disagree.

I feel what you’re sayin Urban. Wasn’t trying to say that we needed a Chavez per se but someone from a non-white background to talk about economic issues. The last two elections it’s been rich white people lecturing other whites about how woke they should be and then not really connecting well with constituencies they claim to represent.

I really think that pissed some people off. Whether or not it was a shit ton of people doesn’t matter; when you’re scrounging up votes in places where your party has clearly had enthusiasm problems, you just don’t say things like that. Biden is not a racist, but that was just a very arrogant, condescending thing to say to someone who has lived with racism and experienced it firsthand.

They made an informed decision. They know what Trump stands for. They chose that.

Guess we all better give up then

Alternatively, maybe you’re wrong about some of them. Maybe some of them are like my cousin, who also lives in Florida, and who definitely only voted for Biden because I spent like 8 hours on the phone with him talking about his grievances and all the ways he didn’t feel a Democrat was going to do anything for him. He didn’t think Trump was going to do anything for him, either, but he had a hard time finding any impetus to give a shit either way. Maybe he was the only one in Florida! Maybe since he’s white he’s a completely different thing from every Latino. But also maybe the Democrats just didn’t do a perfect job. Guess we’ll never know, since we’ve agreed to give up trying. Democrats already have the perfect strategy and if you don’t vote for them, you’re an unperson.

They don’t even really have to choose that, we need better options.

Obama was the better option. The last 2 elections? Not even close to good options

I’m sure you gave a point there?

My understanding of our conversation:

QuickSilver pointed out that stupid people falling for the “socialism!!!” propaganda are fueling opposition to democratic policies, and criticizes the voters for being stupid to fall for it. You’re suggesting that the democrats are at fault - that it’s their policies that are at fault, not the voters for falling for the “socialism!!!” scam.

The blame does not lie with the democrats on this one. What could they possibly do to win over people who think any sort of policy that helps anyone is socialism and won’t budge on the issue. This really is a stupid, unyielding, unchangeable voter issue, not a messaging issue.

The democrats could do a lot better to sell their ideas - that’s what I’ve been talking about the last few hours - but no matter what they do, there’s going to be a hardcore base of morons who call it socialism, and no amount of marketing or changing policies or literally any other action on the democrat’s part will change those people’s minds.

It was purely in Miami-Dade though. Biden did improve in other counties across Florida and received a blowout win in Broward County which is the next most populous. He just declined far too much in Miami-Dade to carry the state after the panhandle results came in which naturally voted R as they always do.

The point probably being what has been said many times in this thread already. Identity politics ain’t working, so stop that shit?

I’m skeptical that abandoning identity politics will help. Like the ‘socialism!!!’ attack, the GOP can make up any shit about what the Dems plan to do in power that I am pessimistic that an informed electorate is possible any more.

That type of arrogant thinking is what got the Dems where they are today. That is just as stupid as you think the voters are.
Of course the blame falls on the Democrats.

AP now have Biden surging in Michigan

Biden just edged ahead in my state of Michigan. 89% of the vote in. Still a lot of Wayne County (Detroit, Dearborn) to come in, so looking good for Biden here.

EDIT: Ninja’d by about 1/2 second. I literally saw Boycott’s post pop up as I clicked.
