Election Day [Week][Month[s]] [Year] 2020 follow-along thread

I think there are those, yes. But I think we often underestimate how many people vote based on who they think will be best for the economy. They’re willing to tolerate white supremacy and misogyny and all that shit as long as they have a job. I think there are large swaths of Trump supporters who don’t give a damn about liberals one way or the other and don’t understand why we have such animosity toward them.

Which part specifically?

I agree with that assessment. But the Democrats aren’t helping themselves out when a big chunk of that party is far left, and they’re the noisiest part of the party. Sure Biden and Hillary Clinton are centre-left. But a lot of Republican voters disagree with Bernie Sanders and the Green New Deal, and view that type of politics as core Democratic Party politics. And the Democrats can’t seem to get out the message of what their core politics actually are.

The fact that she believes this doesn’t mean it’s true.

Every American lost when Trump got elected. The difference is most of us know everyone lost and Trump supporters believe they won.

I get that there are such people out there. But they have also drank the coolaid if they believe the party whose philosophy is steal from the middle class to give to the wealthy is the party that is best for the economy.

There is virtually no one in the Democratic Party that is actually far left politically.

Yes, they’re buying into a long - standing myth that Republicans are better for the economy than Democrats. I don’t know what it would take to change their perceptions.

Any news on the Senate? It looks like the Republicans will maintain control, which will mean no COVID bailout, no climate progress, no new federal judges, and fights over government shutdowns again.

And that the DOW = “The Economy”

It’ll probably be 52-48 Republican, assuming Michigan goes blue.

And no voting on anything the House sends over. It’s Obama II all over again.

Yeah, it sure looks like the predicted D pick-ups were “fake news” and Le McConnell will continue to reign. It is to weep.

Has she missed Trump’s overt antagonism towards Hispanics?

(She may not be Mexican but does anyone here think MAGA-types and Trump will be careful to make a distinction?)

Apparently, yes. One-issue voters only see their One Issue. She doesn’t want to skate in roller derby against a big-muscled former guy. Nothing else matters, I guess.

Elizabeth Warren, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, about half of Slate writers and something like a third of this message board. And a significant chunk of my US Facebook friends.

NM. Wrong thread.

This is right up there on the list of cringe-worthy sentiments constantly repeated.

The overwhelming majority of things that make DJT repellent to liberals are:

  • what we have seen him say – words coming directly out of his mouth, on camera, and
  • statements he has directly made, on camera, about things that he has done

without the filter of the MSM.

This is one readily discernible and painfully distressing piece of the gish gallop storm that comes at us every day.

I don’t believe that, at all. In fact, Id go so far as to say that ALL of those listed would have won, easily.

Part of the reason for that is because attack politics and, especially in the case of trump, blatant lying about the Democratic party, sadly seems to be effective. So how do Democrats fight back-- get just as dirty and spread their own blatant falsehoods? I don’t think that would work even if the Democratic side resorted to it.

How do you define the “far left”?
