Minor question: does anyone know why CNN won’t update to 214 electoral college votes for Trump? They don’t seem to be counting the Maine one. It’s a little annoying as Washington Post and NYT have had him at 214 for quite a while now. Does CNN not believe it, or are they just slow?
Wisconsin vote-counting is basically done. MI is almost done and most of the remaining votes are coming from “blue counties” - Trump isn’t going to catch up there.
But there are several hundred thousand votes outstanding in AZ and while the conventional wisdom is that they will lean Biden just enough that he will hold his narrow lead, it’s not a hard certainty yet. Hence not everyone is willing to call the state. We should probably get an answer there by late tonight. Same with Georgia, I suspect.
The average manual wage worker on an oil rig is the US is $75k. Good luck convincing people that is slave wages or they will find another similar paying job with a GED. Its important to figure out how we’re going to transition away from oil and gas but you’ll never sell the people in the oil field their lives will be better when they leave.
My wife’s crazy uncle(no, really) is posting about all the voter fraud that has been happening around the nation. People voting twice in various states, votes exceeding registered voter totals, etc.
I’m not saying Trump will lose, but the meltdown is certainly stirring up.
I swear to God, they should take the .oney they spent on this race, including utterly unwinnable Senate runs, and do something nice for everyone in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Michigan. Maybe everyone can pick a gift from a catalog? Above ground pool? Big TV? Or, I dunno, fix the crumbling infrastructure in the rust belt? Put community gyms and pools everywhere?
We could just buy these motherfuckers for less than we are spending on total media buys and endless events.
Probably the record holder is Williams Jennings Bryan, who was nominated and ran for president Three times (1896, 1900, 1908) as the Democratic Party’s candidate (note, it was a different time and a very different Party). Bryan lost all three elections and is better known today for the Scopes “Monkey” trial.
I guess that depends on where you’re looking. The election seems to be going very close to what was predicted on 538 with the exception of Florida (although well within the margin of error).
