Ace has a perfectly valid and accurate point. Esprix would have completely blown a gasket if I, for example, had told him he needs to get a woman to make him a man. How exactly does this work? Is “hate speech” ok when it comes from a homosexual, a woman, a racial minority; just not from a straight white man?
And if that’s the case, then Ace should be exempt since he’s Jewish. Oooh, wait a minute…the vast Jewish conspiracy, right? So he loses his minority exemption.

I think he might have been more upset if you had told him that he needed hetero sex not because you are straight and white, but because of your perhaps ambiguous feelings about homosexuality and homosexuals. I have a distinct feeling that he would take it more charitably coming from someone with more positive views of homosexuality, regardless of race, ethnicity, and sexual orientation.
See, there’s where I have a problem. If the remark is offensive it itself, then the target doesn’t matter. Not very many people like Ace; does that now mean that he can now be the (pardon the expression) butt of any rude comments anyone cares to make, no matter how vile? Would people react the same way if Esprix had said, “Go count some money, ya Jew”? If not, why not?
Moreover, this is a tactical error on Esprix’s part. Not only has he lost the moral high ground, but he has opened the door to the exact same insult being hurled at him, or me, or any gay Doper. If somebody in the Pit ever said, “You need a dick up your ass, Gobear,” or worse, “you need some pussy,” that poster would be feeling my metaphorical fangs in his throat in a femtosecond.
If Esprix needs instructions on efficent yet devastating insults, I suggest he consult the theater scene in Rostand’s Cyrano de Bergerac, or read the collected writings of Dorothy Parker, and learn to use less lache insults. After if anything epitomizes gay men, it’s our Wildean wit and sense of style.

Esprix needs to acknowledge that he went too far and apologize. Ace needs to accept the apology and adopt a less hysterical tone in this thread.
I heartily endorse GOBEAR’s post. ESPRIX was out of line IMO, and by a long ways. And now his response is basically “I did it on purpose.”
