All right. I can’t find anything obviously disingenuous in your reasoning, so I’ll let it drop.
As regards the mirror, though, keep in mind it does not have to be used to martyr yourself. There must be a dozen people in this game who are very, very unlikely to attract anything aggressive on any given night – pick one of them and in effect it is protection instead.
Again, the point of the early ending to the day isn’t that it disallows participation/conversation. It’s not a hammer-drop that ends the day immediately – we’ll still have 24 hours to hash out whatever needs hashing out. I just don’t want to see us pissing away the full week on a foregone conclusion. This game is going to buried in data enough as it is – we don’t need extra (lower-case) days of posts muddying the waters.
By the by, I didn’t give a “warning that a full Day gives an advantage to Scum” – I was pointing out that while yes, a full Day give a town-sided nightkiller more time to make a decision, it also gives scum that same amount of time.
Actually, scratch that. Now that I think about it, that is an advantage for scum. One person with the power to nightkill is going to be on their own to make the decision who to take out. No matter how long the Day is, it’s still their decision and their decision alone. But for scum, a longer Day means more time for discussion and strategy. So, I take it back – yes, a full Day does give an advantage to scum.
I can say 99% conclusively that Oy! is Town. I received the Flower, and I am Town. I sincerely doubt a Scummy Oy! would have given it to me, and given my exchange with NAF on Day One, I’m guessing she had reason to believe that I’m a power role.
Normal, I have to say that anyone asking why someone would have continued to be suspicious of NAF after the peeker death reveal but before Idle died is being deliberately obtuse. I can understand disagreeing with it, but I can’t understand someone in the context of this game not knowing why someone might have suspicions. But anyway, hopefully this minor bit of information will clear Oy!'s name.
Here is the original description of the Small Mirror:
I have no reason to believe using the Small Mirror will protect me in any way, unless by chance I happened to use it on someone else who was being protected. That would be good for me, but not very good for the person I was using it on.
Imagine that you were targeted for a kill. If you use the mirror, the kill would not go through. If your mirror target was targeted for something like a scum watcher or re-director, that action would be directed on you instead. So if I’m understanding the mirror correctly, it doesn’t necessarily result in anyone’s death.
But I should add that if my mirror target is the target of a Night Kill, I have every reason to believe that I would die instead, unless that target was also Protected.
Good thing I didn’t ask “why”, then. Read it again. I wanted her to show proof of her suspicion, if she had any; and I wanted her to explain why she chose NAF, but not why she still suspected him (which would have been assuming facts not in evidence in any case). Whether she still suspected him or not, it is still the case that there was more information on NAF at that time than on any other single player barring perhaps Idle himself; and Oy chose to add to it rather than to get new information on someone else. I wanted to know why she made that decision. Surely you can see the potential scummy motive in wanting to hold to your claimed role while giving the town as little useful information as possible, right? That’s why I asked.
Much as it irks me to say it given my vote on you that day and all, I think giving you the small flower in the light of that exchange was a somewhat reasonable choice. Somewhat. wanders off mumbling
(NETA: NAF’s information was also “confirmable” without using any power at all, another potential scummy motive. Oy’s responses were adequate and even without the small flower revelation I’d backed off her, but just to understand my own line of questioning a little better.)
NETA: Normal, asking someone for proof of their suspicion of someone is dangerously close to asking someone why they were suspicious, isn’t it? Isn’t “proof” the “why” of a suspicion? Asking her why she chose to add to the info about NAF rather than investigate someone else is a related, but separate question.
Oh, I guess you could see it that way. I was only wanting it as evidence that she in fact had suspicion (hence, would perhaps want to investigate NAF). Her reasoning for why she was suspicious wasn’t even going to be an issue (unless it was ridiculously disingenuous or some such).
The more this conversation goes on the more townie you look, but:
Imagine, if you will, a scum Oy! who has thrown out a random cover role in response to pressure; or who has tweaked her own scummy/PFK role PM appropriately –
In this case, if she were inclined to hide what she was actually doing with her evenings, she would be able to take what NAF himself had posted already and pretend to have “confirmed” it by use of her power, when actually she’d done nothing of the sort, using only her knowledge of her own role and Idle’s investigation to determine NAF was likely enough to be telling the truth to make it a safe play to back him up more fully.
Oy gave the flower to Drain Bead on Night 1. So presumably he had a strong feeling that she (Drain) was Town. I just went back and reread all of the Day 1 and Night 1 posts by Drain Bead, and I’m not jumping to that same conclusion. I see that Drain Bead was ‘helpful’ to Oy, and defended him against some claims that he might be lying, and offered some opinions on how it was bad for someone to out a Town Power role. But I’m not seeing anything that would have prompted me to hand over a ‘Get Out of Jail Free’ card. So I’d like to know what Oy saw that convinced him that Drain was Town.
NOTE: I am not arguing here that Drain Bead is Scum. For the record, I’m not leaning heavily either way on her right now. I’m just saying that I don’t see any overwhelming evidence from Day 1 that would point to her necessarily being Town. If I’m missing it, I’d like someone else to point it out to me. I am of the opinion that Oy is Town, and I believe that he gave the flower to Drain, but I’m not yet convinced that move was based on solid reasoning.
