this week our regular shuttle driver is away on use or lose days. his replacement is driving the shuttle like it is the knight bus from harry potter. too fast and very herky jerky. yest. we had a substitute bus as well. he was all over the place and had the wrong signage on the bus caption.
today was a bit better, we have our usual bus back and he wasn’t as herky jerky, still too fast.
A very good recovery binge choice. Snickering and snort laughing is much better for your endorphins than drugs. There are a couple of gifted actors in that series.
I did the flashy light test at my last eye test, not come across it before. Apparently I was unusually fast and got them all, but there wasn’t a score board I didn’t even get a sticker.
It’s apparently roadworks season here at the moment; the cones are still behaving in the junction to irk, but now a whole other section of my normal commute has been blocked off with no warning, plus there are signs warning that the biig main road is also going to have major work done. The next month is going to feature some annoying driving.
Hi, everybody. Yeah, haven’t been here in a while. See, I feel like a heel if I post without responding to everyone else’s post. But I haven’t had much time to read the MMPs lately. But I have to post today, because…
…it is Izzy’s birthday! Eighteen, one-eight, no longer a minor! And several things have gone wrong already. Mind you, I’m not upset; it’s almost comical how this stuff happens.
– Izzy is home from school with a cold. D’oh! But the gathering with friends is scheduled for Saturday, so it will go on as usual.
– I wanted to give Izzy an e-card. Last night, I sent a $25 credit to the email address Izzy’s mom gave me. It didn’t show up. No, not even in junk mail. Then I get another text from mom: she’d forgotten the numbers in the address. D’oh! again. She told me she would reimburse me if I couldn’t get the charge reversed. I lied and told her I did. Looks as if the retailer takes my money whether the email went through or not. Wrong address is on me. Oh well: I sent another one to the correct email, and it came through just fine.
– I ordered the cake Izzy wanted from a local bakery. Or rather, the dessert she wants. After I went through my recipe binder, she admitted that she doesn’t like frosting very much. What she would like most was a fruit tart: you know, puff pastry, custard or whipped cream, and fresh fruit on top. So I drove out, collected and paid, and drove back. I kept to a reasonable speed, no mishaps, and the box stayed in one spot on the seat. Well, the box stayed in one spot, It was a rectangular box, and I assume the tart was just a bit too large for a square box. So the box stayed still, but the tart must have slewed this was and that several dozen times. It is a winding, twisty road, no matter that I kept to the speed limit. So I bring the box inside, open it, and find the tart split almost completely in half. It was like a big Pac-Man, with blueberries and blackberries spilling off it. I pushed it back together, and Izzy said not to worry because we’re going to cut it up anyway. Still, jeez.
So later this evening, she will open her presents! We got her a hoodie, one with a fleece lining, and an Amazon card and some sour gummies. Also a tiny plush pierogi! Last Friday we took her and a friend to PNC Park; it was fireworks night. And they saw the pierogi race, so I thought a plush one would be a good secondary gift.
Anyway, happy belated birthday, Oopsie!
Also, Chefguy, I wonder if that might not be the way to go these days: learn a trade and be self-employed.
Ms Peach has now managed to completely lose the squeaky ball. I was tossing it into the kitchen from the study, hey it’s raining outside, and she vanished it. Not as though she doesn’t have about a brazillian other toys.
Pfffft - I don’t respond to everyone. I may comment on something that screams for my input, but mostly, I just read. If we were all standing around chatting, would you feel compelled to answer everyone? You’re not one of those people are you??? Seriously, toss in your 2¢ as you wish, or not. No pressure. I’m pretty sure no one is keeping score.
It sounds like life with Izzy has been a good time for you! So huzzah!!
Have I mentioned that I make good meatloaf? Well, I do. It’s just the recipe from the instant soup package, but it’s good. And there’s enough left over for several sammiches.
OK, time to load the dishwasher then assume the chillage position.
Several of my heathen friends got involved with this outfit. It’s pure genious!

red, hope the package made it.
It did. At this location, da Jungle seems to use USPS as the last mile. They leave packages at the mailbox bank. Fortunately, I found out that one of maintenance’s end of day chores is bringing those packages to the office. My coffee beans are safe.
It’s raining…again. This is the third day in a row that we’ve had some rain. I got the case for my new phone already! I didn’t order it until last night.
Sis will come over tomorrow. I think we’ll likely go for soul food for lunch. We’re checking out places in my neighborhood for now, although next Wednesday, I may go to her house for grocery / girls’ day, in which case, lunch will likely be Mexican or Indian.
A few years back, when there was a Rapture scare going around, I went out to the end of the driveway, and I carefully laid out shoes, socks, shorts, and a shirt as if I had vanished from inside them. A neighbor told me the next day that it took him a while to get the joke.

Also, Chefguy, I wonder if that might not be the way to go these days: learn a trade and be self-employed.
I have another grandson who eschewed college for trade school. He took the general construction curriculum, which was a year-long training that was both classroom and practical application (they built a house from the ground up). He now has a job with a company that builds sets for plays, movies, etc., and he loves it.

i’m kinda hoping for the rapture to go the other way. a carrying off of those who are friendly to the worse angels of our nature.
I’ve always thought of the rapture as a win/win.
I like watching hockey, but I don’t follow it. As for college football, my Ducks are doing well so far this year.
But then, they always do. They save The Choke for when it matters, at the end of the season.
Swankiest uniforms, though!
Howdy Y’all! Laundry got laundered. Tomorrow we will commence gettin’ it dirty again. Such is life. We had some quality cee-mint pond time, likely the last time for this season, followed by nappage, day drinkin’ and leftover sup. Been a pleasant day.
Rilch glad Izzy is havin’ a good eighteenth bday.
As far as I know, nobody around here got raptured today. However, AIUI, there’s a chance of it though Thursday. It’s supposed to rain here Thursday. Should one keep an umbrella nearby? Personally I would hate to arrive at the Pearly Gates all wet.
Good evening all. Did manage to do a little (very little) around the house and spent a couple hours at the gym, but otherwise have worked on my slothing for the balance of the day. The rain tapered off around noon and did not return, there is a 50-60% chance we’ll get rained on tomorrow, so we’ll see.
rocky, hope Mario Andretti gets enough complaints that he slows down some.
Nuts, we get road work around here at what seems the worst possible times, hope you can still get from there to where.
Rlchiam (forgot your MMP moniker), stop by whenever you have the time. And Happy Birthday to Izzy! I’ve screwed up on cards now and then, hope you can find a way to get reimbursed. And sorry about the tart being damaged; at least Izzy seems to be a practical sort.
FCM, I used to have my Mom’s recipe for meatloaf, but it disappeared 20 years ago and I have to make do with a couple restaurants that serve it nearby.
red, glad you got the beans. And that pet care post-rapture ad is a thing of genius.
And that’s all for tonight, unless I stay awake for a late-night final. Take care all.

Apparently, the Rapture is tomorrow. So long. It’s been good to know you.
Comic Book Guy: Worst. Rapture. Ever.
Up from naptime. Having a Manhattan, and Redneck Stirfry with the last fresh Hatch chilie of the season. Spot is having dry, flavorless bits.

Not quite pea soup, but likely a meaty stock
Glad it’s dinner time, because I’m hungry.

I did the flashy light test at my last eye test, not come across it before. Apparently I was unusually fast and got them all, but there wasn’t a score board
But you might qualify as an F1 driver.

Mind you, I’m not upset; it’s almost comical how this stuff happens.
Still a better birthday than in Sixteen Candles
nuts The delightful road work folks around here have, for the past few years, have decided that when the town more than doubles in size when the college kids get back is the best time to do road work. And not finish it. A street I use on my daily commute has had a gravel strip for 4 weeks, with no sign of actually finishing the project. Aside from the large piece of equipment (a generator, maybe) left at the side of the road.

Up from naptime. Having a Manhattan, and Redneck Stirfry with the last fresh Hatch chilie of the season. Spot is having dry, flavorless bits.
More than three hours to get home from the orifice. Mrs. L.A. had some deli turkey and cheese for dinner. I made myself a salad with an avocado (the whole thing), some of Mrs. L.A.’s leftover rib-eye, shredded cheddar cheese, and blue cheese dressing. I let Goo lick the bowl, and I put in some bits of steak fat for her. She wants to play, but I’m tired. Ten minutes ‘til nine. I’ll go to bed soon. So Goo is amusing herself by giving herself a baff.

Also a tiny plush pierogi!
That sounds adorable! Thanks for updating!

Fortunately, I found out that one of maintenance’s end of day chores is bringing those packages to the office.
That’s good to know, especially if you’re not home and get back late in the day.
Another exciting day of Brooklyn 99 and a walk. Plus Thai from the food truck. It’s pretty darn good for Thai from a food truck, so we’re looking forward to that.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. Wonder where I’ll be today.

She wants to play, but I’m tired
Spot and I kung-fu fight before bed. Complete with sound effects and bad dubbing.

Plus Thai from the food truck. It’s pretty darn good for Thai from a food truck, so we’re looking forward to that.
I also look forward to Thai-ing one on.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up, caffeinatin’ and still not raptured. YAWN ‘Tis 71 Amurrkin out and partly cloudy with a predicted high of 92 and sunny. We shall procure provisions this mornin’ and be our RDOS selves until it’s time to head over to the church house for the Wednesday doin’s which will take care of sup.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas and bother, I suppose I must purtify myself and don attire acceptable for bein’ amongst the great unwashed. The things one must endure for one’s public!
Happy Hump Day Y’all!

We had some quality cee-mint pond time, likely the last time for this season
My mom had hers closed for the season the other day. Once upon a time, it was a family event, especially putting the cover on. Now she has a pool company do the closing and opening as required. I was never involved, tho, living too far away most of the years. Do you have yours covered and all that, or do you just not use it for a few months?

As far as I know, nobody around here got raptured today.
FCD was scrolling thru texts and apparently it’s all going to happen on US time because the US in the Promised Land or the Favorite of Jesus or something. I dunno - I never understood the folks who are obsessed with End Times…
Wouldn’t it be the perfect time to disappear, tho? Just leave “evidence” then head for Fiji or some place. Freak out everyone!! Of course, you’d be too far away to enjoy the reaction, but you would be far away… interesting notion.
Possible t-boomers today. I’ll be tool-handing at the boat while FCD finishes some stuff on the port side tanks. He said it should only take a few hours, so I’ll take a stool (there’s literally no place to sit in any cabin) and my tablet for while I wait to fetch whatever tool he forgot to take into the engine room. Because I’m nice, dammit!
I got all the iris I dug up trimmed and boxed. I ordered some garden border and I think I’ve figured out where I’ll be planting some of them. I will need to get a few bags of dirt plus I’ll dig up some of the composted leaves from previous mulch/vac adventures. Now, if I could just get a new back that won’t ache…
Question for those of you who have eyes… - I’ve found of late that my eyelids feel “glued” shut when I wake up. It’s literally hard to open my eyes, but once open, they seem fine. Anyone else experience this or heard of it? Is it an indication of something bad or just one of those things? It is weird.
I’d forgotten that I have the grands tomorrow evening. Daughter is going to Akron to spend the weekend with her bestie and SIL has work, so I will pick up the kids, feed them, and get them to bed, then hang there till SIL gets home from work. He’s got a late night, so FCD will drop me off, then come get me around 11 or so, since I’m usually asleep by then. I’ll get them again on Sunday morning, and Daughter will stop on her way home to pick them up. SIL is off on Firday and Sat, so I don’t need to watch them then, barring something unplanned. Now to figure out what I’ll feed them for supper tomorrow…
And so my day begins. Happy Wednesday!
