SWMBO wants to go to the tiki bar tonight, as I’m getting my second vax today and I might not feel well tomorrow.
Been sitting outside of the urgent care for most of an hour. It’s raining. I brought my tablet and I connected to their WiFi. I almost fell asleep. Hope she won’t be much longer…
Fang had an AP exam this afternoon, so his brothers had to take the bus home. At five 'til three, I get a desperate call from Spike that Squeaky had forgotten and was walking to the senior parking lot at the high school. So I call Squeaky, “Dude, did you forget that you had to ride the bus today?”
“… Yah.”
“Would you like me to pick you up?”
“Yah.”
“Okay - go down the greenway into the neighborhood, and I’ll pick you up there.”
For once, I don’t regret allowing my kids to have phones.
Just got back from the pharmacy. I’ve had my second dose of Moderna.
Apparently I do, too. Those who know me on FB can see the photo I posted the other day with what an old shipmate calls my “typical smile”. ![]()
Did the store run. Talked to brother, who’s almost at his destination. Toilet has been fixed. Welcome signs are made. (They’re a family tradition. I’m not supposed to hang them in the windows so will stand outside holding them high.) I have to start cooking, but I got a spell of tired, so I’m resting for a minute. I should eat. [Looks in mirror.] No, I shouldn’t.
At least the plans are firmed up–except for son, as the migraines are in charge there. Both kids and SIL plan to be here here for lunch tomorrow. Just daughter and SIL will be here for dinner. SIL’s mom and sis will join us for brunch on Sunday. Three meals, but I have a LOT of food. And son, who was going to bring a whole meal (but I said no because I have so much food) is bringing dessert.
FCM, hope your kiddo’s OK.
Flyboy, so Tiki instead of taco tonight? Sending good thoughts for no icky side effects from Dose #2.
Yeah, SWMBO is getting bored with Mexican food (but not the margaritas). She really liked the tiki bar last week (I did too), so I have a feeling it will become a regular hangout. Too bad it’s 23 miles away. Kinda limits the mai tai/fogcutter/zombie action.
Thanks. My shoulder is feeling a little sore already, but I don’t know if that’s the shot or just the way I’m sitting.
I’d suggest standing up and sitting back down on your butt instead of your arm. Oughta help.
Grandboss has what one colleague of mine terms “resting ‘I will kill you in your sleep’ face”. The lady is quite professionally capable, and I totally respect her in that regard, I just find her intimidating.
Hate it when the edit window for a delivery order closes and THEN I remember something else I needed. Oh well, had another delivery option to fill the gaps.
Also didn’t appreciate the huffy little 'tude about how her app gave a different apartment number, as if I was at the incorrect apartment just to annoy the driver and the adolescent “helper” (I’m lucky my tostada shells weren’t smashed!). I’ve only ever used this service at this address, Toots. Enjoy the complaint I just filed requesting that you never get one of my orders again, along with the pointedly tiny tip (and I’m usually a 20% kind of girl if you manage basic competence and civility).
Home at last after 2 hours in a parking lot in the pouring rain. Daughter just had a bad muscle spasm, likely stress-related. And because of her preggo status, the Dr woudln’t give her a muscle relaxer. Just heat and tylenol, which is what she was doing anyway. But at least she knows.
I nuked myself some Italian wedding soup. What I wanted was Long John Silver’s, but there isn’t one in this county, dammit. So I had soup.
My yarn was delivered, in a split-open box. But it was all in there, so I guess I can’t complain too much. Well, except Taz kept trying to get into the box. He’s such a pain in the patoot sometimes! But no matter now. I’m going to start some new projects. Yay!!
Just out of curiosity - those of you who have met me - was your initial impression that I had RBF? Or were you just overwhelmed in my presence??
This. Definitely this.
FCM, never thought you had RBF; of course I don’t remember the visit to your house that much, but meeting you at the March for Science you were rather…perky…
Nellie, enjoy the company (and companionship) this weekend.
flyboy, good for ya. Hope nothing more than an achy arm. And sorry, you are of course right, but the arachnophobia is strong in this one…
Wizard, ain’t kids wonderful…
FCM, hope Roxy is well; sounds like parents are falling apart…
Bumba, good on ya. Hope the Tea Partiers get dunked.
Soccer has been coached and sammiches assimilated, so will be heading off to bed soon as soccer starts at 8am tomorrow. All y’all take care now.
I missed this earlier. I so hope you’re successful in keeping them off. They got on my school board about 7 years ago and made life a living hell for everyone. They don’t come alone, either: for every one on the board, there’s a dozen others ready to cause trouble. They monitored teachers’ social media accounts and filed dozens of complaints with the district about the most mundane of posts. They launched a widespread, vociferous objection to the new fourth grade readers because a supplementary book that wasn’t even ordered told the story of a polar bear cub on an ice floe melting due to climate change. They went through all the other textbooks in the district line by line and filed hundreds of complaints about anything they didn’t like.
It was McCarthyism all over again, a real nightmare. Thank heavens, they didn’t get reelected, but it was a helluva long 4 years. Please let us know how things turn out in your district. Wishing everyone there well!
{{{shoe}}} Just because you sound like you need a hug.
That was a good thing to do for the youngster metal mouse.
Glad it was nothing serious for your daughter Mooooooom
I hope you all outvote the tea partiers bumba. Those idiots (and we have a whole mess of 'em here too) can totally frig up the educational process.
When I was in high school, I needed one more math credit to make a double major. After perusing the offerings, there was one called Consumer math that was aimed at the kids going straight to Dalton foundry to work after they graduated. It was one of the best math courses that I took. Yeah, I learned a lot in Algebra, Algebra II, Geometry, trig and calculus, but the math that I have used every day of my life since being on my own was that “dummy” class.
Irked (even a little over, since the system kept hanging up and I’m only in for three days next week), took Nelson to the dog park where he got a good workout with Bentley, Jersey, Bandit and Percy, then let the Captain fix supper. I’s tahred!
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
That’s seriously cool. Bookmarking it for the next gifting opportunity. Got my parents sweet and salty (local-ish honey and salt) for a combined gift. My mom has to eat salt due to low sodium levels, so she might as well have some fun with it.
Smart coach. Probably not one of the design goals, but definitely a benefit of having an SUV. VW vans have this as, at least the one we had from 1972.
Today’s the big day, we’re moving the grill from the back porch to the front porch. It’s big, so we’re going to partially disassemble it before moving. It would be almost easier to bring it through the apartment, but it might not fit around the corner in the kitchen.
Forgot to put the cardboard out on Wednesday, and we got a lot of boxes in the past week. Our parents had turntables, but we started with cassette players. As of this week, we now have a turntable, plus 3 more speakers, so we have a (almost) whole house music experience.
And we have 2 copies of the same record. So we have to buy some records as well. Actually, we’ve been wanting to buy records, but didn’t have a turntable. So now we’re set.
Also have to plant some bulbs. Fortunately lunch is leftover pizza and dinner will be fruit, cheese and crackers, so there will time for a soak in the tub, if so desired.
And the weather’s going to be sunny with 18/64 today, and tomorrow will climb to 26/77.
Happy Saturday!
Up. caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to sort. We’ll be shorthanded, of course.
Yay!
[Slapshot] you go to the box, you know. Two minutes, by yourself, you know and you feel shame, you know. And then you get free.[/Slapshot]
My slothday attire is aloha shirts and khakis.
We haven’t me…yet.
And glad kid’s pain in the neck isn’t too serious.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 48 (BRRR!) Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 82 and mostly N.O.S. Not much on the agenda today outside of cookin’ a ton o’ food. JDD and Partner, and our girlfriend (long time female friend who is widowed and likes to tell people she has two boyfriends) are comin’ for sup. Sup shall be beast roast with little red N.O.T., roasted baby carrots, peas/butterbeans/okra cooked together, mac & cheese, rolls, and for dessert cheesecake (got made yestiddy). Just in the mood for a big ol’ meal shared with friends. We’ll have cocktails at five and sup at six. 'Twill be a good time.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
Happy Sattidy Y’all!
It’s dreary-looking out there. Rain is threatened, and it might hit 60… May is stoopit, so far.
I’ve got the dishwasher sloshing along - I should have run it last night, but the lazies overtook me. The ice maker is also running - we use a lot of ice each day - mostly FCD does. Fortunately, I can fill the freezer bin in a couple-three hours - much faster than a built-in ice maker. And, for the record, I didn’t pour my diet coke over my cottage cheese this morning. Good sign for the day, I hope?
I’ll be doing all I can in the basement today. I’d like to get all the walls scrubbed and all the holes patched. We’ll see how that goes. The hardest part will be moving a couple of pieces of furniture. I’ll have to scootch them away from the walls a little at a time without hurting myself. I know what I need to do - the how is the challenge. I’ll figger it out.
And I started on a new lap robe/afghan last night - a pattern I’ve been wanting to try. We’ll see how it goes. Like all the rest, it’ll be full of Taz hair - at least till it’s done and I run it thru the washer. He insists on being in my lap when I’m in my recliner, and he protests loudly when I need to stand. Naggy little brat…
Somehow, my “serious” email address fell into the hands of a right-wing group with a Czech Republic domain. And since I just use the freebie version of the site, I don’t have the option to block the sender, dammit. The crap does go immediately to the spam folder, but its very existence pisses me off! I wish I knew where they got my address - it’s not like it’s gmail or another common domain that they could just generate likely recipients. I’m willing to bet none of the money that’s donated ever reaches and of the politicians it supposedly supports. Then again, a fool and his money…

Onward! Happy Saturday!!
My folks arrived last night for a weekend visit, they’re vaxxed, as am I. Haven’t seen them since x-mas 2019. We went out to dinner, only my second time inside a restaurant in a year. Usually when they visit we go for a nice walk in one of the lovely parks in my area, but it’s only 39 'merican and raining here, so not sure what we’re doing today.
{Sad voice} My folks are starting to look old. I mean they are getting up there, but I don’t like it.{/SV}
Stay safe, all!
Mooooooom, do you have any dollies that you could put under the furniture that needs to be moved?
I know what you mean about the moment that it really hit you that your parents were looking old VanGo. Hugs.
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, a load of jeans in the wash and fixing to do KP. Once that’s done, I’ll get sheveled to go for groceries. Like Mooooom, I think May’s weather is stoopit. Fer cryin’ out loud, I’ve had the heat on for most of the month so far.
Enough already! I’m read to bring out the summer clothes.
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
