As I lie here listening to the gutter overflow, I resolve to clean the gutters I can safely reach, and put up the rest of the catio tarps today, weather permitting. I ran some errands yesterday afternoon but have two to take care of later today. Perhaps box up more donations. I’d like to move the dead treadmill, but that may need to wait until other furniture is moved around.
Good morning everyone.
It’s currently 51 degrees and raining. It’s pretty much going to rain all day, with gusty winds topping out at around 40 MPH. Rah.
It’s back to work today, but I’m working from home, so that makes things a just a smidge better.
Welcome, istacyi!
I’m glad you got the Amtrack situation sorted, nellie.
I didn’t do anything but do some dishes and a couple of loads of laundry. All the same, I’m still just exhausted. I’d like to sleep uninterrupted for about 24 hours, please. I just feel like I can’t get caught up on rest.
Today I call the vet for Polar. I was going to do it yesterday, but dang, he was just so wiped from Christmas day activities and yelling toddlers, that I thought I’d give him a day of rest and relaxation. He barely moved, unless he was following me from room to room. Having the grandkids over just wears him out. As soon as the vet clinic opens, I’ll call them.
I hope you all have a pleasant day.
A few years back, I finally convinced my spousal unit that he shouldn’t be climbing on the roof to clean the gutters. So twice a year, Bob and his minion come over to clean the gutters and blow all the leaves and sticks off the roof. I consider it to be $125 well spent. As for me, I avoid ladders, so no way I’d be messing with gutters.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN I was a slugabed until just after seven a.m.
‘Tis 29 Amurrkin out and partly cloudy with a predicted high of 53 and N.O.S. for the day. It’s a heatwave! We may or may not go get shorn this mornin’. We’re retired drains on society so anything might or might not happen on any given day. Other than that it shall be the usual sloth and general overall uselessness as is our wont. Sup shall be boxed lasagna (don’t judge!) sallit, and cheesey garlic bread. I also need to plan out the for sure menu for the NYD feast as we shall lay in provisions tomorrow.
JtC I have one of those dolls. It was a gift from a Russian friend’s mother that I “sponsored” so she could come to the U.S. to visit. She did not speak English, but we communicated well with each other. She also kept me well-fed the whole time she was here. She learned my name and communicated to me to call her Babushka. Yes, that counts as a thank you note. I say a heart felt one that will be cherished, no doubt. Yet another tale of GG to give us all giggles!
doggio like BooFae suggested, a wine stopper if you have one is a great substitute.
icy welcome! Come on in and set a spell and take your shoes off. Always remember to use a coaster while MOOOOOOM is around. We love to be regaled with tales of grandkids, pets, and anything else you can think of to tell us. We can even deal with TMI. Og knows we get that!
Nellie glad you made it safe and sound and yay for resolvin’ the ticket issue!
Nettie of course you can control the weather and make some suitable for Buddy!
MOOOOOOM hope y’all find a solution soonest.
Taters hope you can get Polar into the vet today, poor fella.
Lily like MOOOOOOM I prefer to pay someone to clean out the gutters. I don’t do ladders anymore than I absolutely must.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
Happy Tuesday Y’all!
Most of our gutters can be reached with a folding ladder, so I don’t mind. There are two areas I can’t reach readily without being on the roof, but I can unclog all of the downspouts.
Welcome! Come in, sit down and make yourself at home.
welcome istacyi!
yest. the white cat went to the specialist and had an ultrasound. poor dude was at the vet from 10:30ish-4:30ish. i was went searching for food and was thwarted twice in my search, which meant i was at the vet for most of the time. lager has given me the cold tail since we got home. only talking to me about food dish issues.
there was no winter’s nap for us.
Happy Toosday!
It was 29 degrees this morning, four people and six dogs at the park.
It felt nice and warm for a change.
Cerby jumped on the bed this morning, he is learning that it’s my bed and to give me room.
He sleeps with me when my son is irking, but when my son is home, he stays downstairs with him, and runs up in the morning when he hears me waking.
Anyway, once I sat up, Cerby snuggled up next to me, put his head on my shoulder and gave my cheek a little kiss.
He can be so sweet and cute when he’s not being a total asshole.
Unfortunately, asshole seems to be the default.
Now when we leave the park, he tries to chase any car that is driving by.
Today is da jungle subscribe and save delivery day. Oh joy, and happiness. The house will be full of boxes.
I need to go to PT, and I don’t want to.
I’m going to cancel Cerby’s vet visit for tomorrow as well. He is not limping so much, but I’ll have him checked out at daycare.
Ripple’s wound is looking worse. The vet said to leave it alone and just give him his pills. I’m getting more worried about it.
The roofer comes tomorrow. I hope that is the end of shit for a while.
I thought there was a problem with my checking account. I got a text about a big withdrawal, but the text was a scam text. Thinking I had to deal with that along with everything else going wrong, I was ready to spaz.
I’d forgotten that one of our members sent me a Christmas present. I’m in the office today. I opened ‘my’ fridge to check on my cheese quantity, and there was a heavy box with my name on it. Within was a very nice plain wood box with the member company’s name on it, a picture of a guy in a horse-drawn wagon, and some script saying they’ve been in business for six generations… since 1889. That’s seven years longer than we’ve been in business!
Inside of the wooden box there’s a bottle of Weathermill 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon, Oregon Orchards Himalayan Salt Hazelnuts, Beecher’s Smoked Flagship Cheddar (I love Beecher’s cheddar!), La Panzanella Roasted Garlic Croccantini, Two Sisters’ Candy Real Almond Toffee, Two Sisters’ Candy Real Fudge, Dan the Sausageman Sweet-Hot Mustard, Dan the Sausageman Beef Summer Sausage, Princess Pickled Mild Dilly Beans, and a heavy, tumbled marble coaster with an 1800s-vintage image of our client’s building.
Wow. Just… wow.
Our roofer and his brother came yesterday afternoon. I thought they were just going to assess the area where water was coming in by the vent. Instead, they spent two hours digging into it and then fixing it. I gave him a bottle of Maestro Dobel Tequila (my fave) and a Christmas card.
The roofer knows someone who can replace our inadequate gutter, and his brother does concrete and can (next Summer?) put a ‘patio’ in front of the house. (I think Wifey is tired of seeing me step down off the stoop with my rubbish knees, especially when there’s ice and snow.)
He’s doing better than Buddy is. Little brat still insists on maneuvering his way to the center of the bed, forcing the human he’s “sharing” with over to the edge.
Sounds like park drama has settled. I take it the troublesome dogs/human trio haven’t been showing up?
Good morning, everyone! ![]()
Yesterday the traffic gods smiled on me, and the drives to/from Baltimore were uneventful. *phew* Lunch with dad and bro – and the ensuing “hang” at dad’s place – went well, and the small gifts I got them made them smile. Mission accomplished. I made sure I left before 3:30pm so I’d get home before dark, and proceeded to have a nice evening on the couch with my doggy and The Good Wife.
Speaking of the doggy – and dogs on beds – I am so pleased with myself about something: Bailey is 14.5 (she made me add the “half”), and earlier this year she started struggling with some arthritis/muscle weakness and it became increasingly difficult for her to jump up on the bed. She used to spend a lot of time there, including jumping up in the mornings while I was still asleep, but her time spent on the bed noticeably decreased – including no more mornings. I have two storage ottomans (small-ish and large), and about a month ago I decided to put the small-ish one at the foot of the bed and train her to use it as a step. I could get her to put her front paws on it, but I think there wasn’t enough surface/it wasn’t sturdy enough for her to trust fully jumping up on it and she never got the hang of using it. A week ago, it finally occurred to me to try using the large ottoman…ding ding ding! She figured it out immediately, is back to spending more time on the bed, and the past few days I’ve awoken to find her sleeping next to me again. I’m pretty sure she’s happier; I know that I am.
This is my first day of leave this week (vs yesterday’s holiday), and happily I have zero plans! I do need to do laundry, but I’ve decided that can wait until tomorrow (when I also have no plans). Therefore, taking a shower this morning was the extent of my effort for the day.
When I’m done posting here – and putzing around online in general – I plan to read in the living room for a while before turning to the TV and iPad for the rest of the day/night. The new Kindle I got myself a month ago has much better battery life than my old one did: it’s so nice to be able to read until I decide to stop vs when the battery dies!
My father was a Russian linguist, and has made a few trips there over the years: in the fall of 1993, he brought me back one of those nesting doll sets. It’s still on display in my living room. ![]()

(My first thought for a Mumper name was “eyes,” but I also like icy!)
Whew!!
Booooor-ing. ![]()
Indeed! ![]()
They haven’t been showing up, and I haven’t told them I’m going.
It’s been peaceful.
My brain is all screwed up.
Da jungle subscribe and save delivery is next Toosday.
That means I don’t have to deal with a roomful of boxes the day before the roofer comes.
Adam almost never sleeps on the bed anymore. He has ‘his’ chair, with ‘his’ blanket, and that is his preferred place.
I just can’t get motivated to go to PT.
Damn, I forgot to call the vet.
Being licked by people is much better than being kicked by people.
Usually.
A morning of food prep yesterday, followed by several hours sitting with guests at the dining table caused a lower back spasm that, along with the chronic knee problem, has left me barely able to walk today. Taking aceta- and a muscle relaxer, applying heat, and hoping this is short-lived.
Howdy all. Sorry for being out of touch but have had trouble posting. All well, been sitting watching movies with 5 other adults and 5 dogs for two days, start my journey home tomorrow. Everyone take care .
The dog-to-human ratio isn’t correct. You need another dog in there. ![]()
I thought it would be a short day. But between Dispatch screwing up a truckload of work, and the mess Midnight left(plus a bunch of people were absent), it was a full day.

Rrrrrr!
Well, things got a little ugly between FCD and his mother this morning - he’s exhausted, she’s stubborn, FIL was waaaaaaay out there today - a rather nasty time. She’s got it in her head that if FIL goes into Hospice care, they’ll be all sweetness and kindness to him, but if he goes into the VA facility, they’ll lock him in a room and tie him to his bed and keep him drugged… Not that she’s been to the VA facility or known anyone else who has.
Anyway, we’re waiting for a call about an appointment to have FIL evaluated for hospice (first step in the process) Here’s hoping the evaluator will give the recommendation. The facility is not too far from where MIL lives, making it about 20 miiles from here. So for the moment, we wait for the call.
Meanwhile, BIL is waiting for a bed in a rehab facility that will take his insurance - another call we’re waiting on.
FCD got his car washed - it was crusted with road salt. And it’s now at the shop for a long-overdue oil change. I’ve got a load in the washer - maybe I can get a couple more done today. So that’s where we are.
Does she not see what this is doing to FCD, or does she just not care?
