Fin De HalloHanuThanksChristKwazaa - A Post Holiday MMP

Yep, if it has to be done, best get it done all at once. Nothing ruins a perfectly good sloth day like worrying about needing to get something done.

Lancaster used to have a biker bar that had all of the typical red-neck dive features including one of those chicken wire covered stages. If it hasn’t burnt down, that could be our Mumper hangout cause pretty near anything goes around here. (It also had cheap beer, a big dog that tried to look mean sitting by the bar and a cat that refused to move from it’s chair no matter who wanted to sit there.)

Greetings from the ER waiting area. FIL fell from a dining room chair and split his scalp bad enough that we think he needs stitches. Plus his speech was slurred and disjointed. Hoping they admit him for observation. It’s bad.

I’m so sorry, and I hope this gives a push in the residential direction.

I’m hoping they can do a hospice eval while he’s here… His doc isn’t available till next week.

Geeze Louise. I am so sorry.

May I suggest that FCD go and find the hospital chapel and talk to the Chaplin or whoever is in charge at this time of the night? Not for spiritual advice, but a quick prayer couldn’t hurt, but because the social workers are all gone this late and the person at the chapel will have amazing resources and suggestions.

First thing tomorrow morning, contact hospice yourself and tell them what is going on and that you need help NOW, not next week when his doctor is available. They can move mountains when needed.

Right now, go find a vending machine and get some chocolate. It is late, your blood sugar is down and your body could use a boost. Get some for FCD too.

ahh the trap … the buildings still there but its another type of bar … the bar like that is now called bog shots

Hospice here requires a referral from a Dr or the ER. And apparently there is very limited space for dementia cases. We’ve already decided that we’ll fill out the paperwork for the VA and the nursing home. End run around MIL.

But it all takes time.

I’m sorry, FCM.

Damn. :frowning:

Bars like that never go away, they just change their names and sweep the floors once in a while.

I do remember Lancaster fondly, we used to get some amazing weed there.

I know, so many hoops to jump when you are already exhausted and out of breath. That is why I suggested the Chaplin because YOU need an advocate as well.

Our kinda place, right?

And I haven’t even talked about the bands yet!

My favorite band experience was when some very nervous looking teenagers were setting up and just as they were ready to get started, a BIG, burley black leather clad bouncer type stood up and said “That is my son’s band. They are going to play tonight. You. Will. Clap.” We all clapped, LOL!

Evening all. In my hotel room, 99% packed and car is gassed up and ready for the road. Another day of watching movies (some good ones–Bullet Train–if you liked Kill Bill you’ll like this one, and Gray Man–somewhat Jason Bourne-ish but lots more shooting and blowing things up, but pretty well-acted). Not much of a movie person on my own, but when it’s the only game in town… Took family to Olive Garden to dinner before I left, which dented my credit card a bit but is the family tradition.

I am worried about my brother, he pretty much hobbles instead of walks, he’s way overweight, and has had heart problems in the near past. But if I say a word about it I get my head snapped off, so hopefully he’ll figure it out himself.

FCM, nothing really I can say except hoping things work out before FCD gets truly burned out (you too, but I worry a bit more about him).

JtC, good suggestions especially the chocolate. And sounds like errand day was a success (nice touch with the books and the kid)

suzie, hope the fence survived.

Nettie, sorry about that, but while I love dogs, I just don’t know at this stage if I could raise one…and it would have a fair chance of outliving me…

OK, need to do a couple of other things and head off to bed so I can get an early start tomorrow. All y’all take care now.

Now that I’m kinda stoned and mellow and am reminiscing about bands, I am going to tell ya about the bands in Hawaii back when I was there.

Of course there were the local bands, but there were the European bands who were trying to make it big in the USA but didn’t have enough money to go to the mainland. I was able to hear a lot of bands before they made the big time, which was super cool.

A favorite memory was of NENA performing 99 Red Balloons in a very small bar with a two drink cover charge. They started playing and a mosh pit started with folks slam dancing. They stopped playing and the lead singer scolded everyone for bad behavior and that if people wanted to come up and take pictures nobody should shove them away. Everyone in the place looked around like guilty 4th graders and sat down to listen to the lesson. (For the youngins, it was a protest song.)

Another time I saw the Charlie Daniels Band, the Kailaha Gospel Singers, some surf band that I don’t remember the name of and Blue Oyster Cult. That was a pretty amazing crowd.

TBH, giving books away is very self serving. I want to live in a well educated society. Those kids sitting at the laundromat could possibly be the ones helping me during my end days. I want them to enjoy reading and learning and the best way to do that is start them early. “Here, kid, have a book all of your own!”

A new cafe has opened here in Topeka. It’s called the Olive Cafe, and has Meditteranean cuisine. There are sandwiches, soups, appetizers and desserts, a few other things. Ive been there twice now as it is fantastic.

But I want to ask the Mumpers if they have other heard of a dessert item called a warbat. I know a lot of international cooking and foods, especially sweets, but this is one new to me. It’s a triangular shaped item, with phyllo pastry and a cream filling. There’s a little sweet drizzle on it as the filling is not really sugary. I adore the ones I’ve had, and it’s too bad this place is not too far from me, as it tempts me to get them so often.

It’s a quarter past midnight and I’m home waiting for a call to return to the hospital - maybe in a couple of hours or more. FCD and his mom are still there - I’ll fetch them once FIL is in his room - he’s still in the ER. And tomorrow there will be the discussion about hospice.

But for now, I’m going to try to snooze for a couple of hours. Helluva day…

Eat something too. You are under a LOT of strain. And eating will help you to snooze. Well, it does with me.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. My bed is partial unmade, since somebody has started sleeping there(which hasn’t happened since the “Perfect Spirla” incident" of 5 years ago).

I mostly go to see the local bands, but the one European band that I always see when it come around is Albanach:

Never heard of it. And now I want some. Oddly enough, I found a place in Turkey which ships here. Not sure I want to do that.

I was mentioning to my husband that there are few American recipes which include pistachios. I’m not sure if that’s because pistachios are still considered on the exotic side (compared to pecans, almonds and walnuts), or there are people who just don’t like them.

{{{FCM}}} Take care of yourself. I echo Baker’s recommendation, eat something. Drink something too, even if it’s just a glass of water.

Sounds like fun. Followed on Book of Faces. Maybe they’ll come my way.

Hubby’s sinus mess is still going on, so I need to go pick up some other medical stuff for him. He’s coughing a lot at night, which means neither of us get much sleep. That’s getting old.

Put together pizza dough last night - supposedly foolproof. Theoretically it should result in a pan pizza à la Pizza Hut. Just need to buy the ingredients for the sauce, and see if I can find aged mozzarella. Looks like I need to find Galbanino - should be available.

Here’s hoping that he sees your good example (going to the gym and losing weight) and follows.

Speaking of the gym, I haven’t been going due to my own sinus issues. Maybe I’ll make it in tomorrow - last night I only got 5 hours of sleep, and I don’t want to make myself sicker.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 24 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 59 and N.O.S. for the day. Today we shall procure provisions and do errand stuff. Hair cuts are also on the agenda. I need to call the pharmacy to get a 'script refilled, as well. We have also decided that we shall do the early sup geezer thang at the hog trough Golden Corral. So we shall be adults today, dangit!

{{{MOOOOOOM and FCD}}} hope today is a day you at least start to get some answers about what can be done to best help FIL and MIL. Hope the horsepistol at least kept FIL overnight.

MetalMouse have a safe trip back to Nawth Alabammy.

FlyBoy Lancaster: Your moving here wouldn’t make it any worse. Great marketin’ slogan!

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas, alack, and bother of all bothers, I suppose I must purtify and don attire appropriate for bein’ amongst the great unwashed. How I suffer!

Happy Hump Day Y’all!

Just after 1, FCD called for me to come get them - his dad wasn’t going to be admitted for hours yet, and FCD and MIL were exhausted and sniping at each other. The drive back to the hospital was terrifying - apart from me not liking to drive in the dark, I was tired and not fully awake. Luckily, there was virtually no traffic so my going 45 MPH didn’t impede anyone. I let FCD drive home.

Then I had a terrible time falling back to sleep - it was probably close to 3 when I finally drifted off, but I woke a bit after 6 because I’m always up then. I got out of bed long enough to let Higgs out and feed her, then I went back, but sleep eluded me. So I’m up and caffeinating. I’ve got the dishwasher running (part of why I couldn’t fall back to sleep was thinking about the kitchen.) I’d heard FCD’s phone ping a couple of times and I started worrying it might be important.

It was the hospital informing us that FIL doesn’t have plague. Plus a text from MIL’s youngest sister, the retired nurse. (She offered that perhaps this was the beginning of the end - I’m pretty sure it is…) Glad neither of the pings woke him and gladder still that neither was important.

I’ll probably plop down in the recliner shortly and perhaps grab a nap. I had planned to get groceries today, but that ain’t happening. Barring something awful, I’m sleeping with Mel tonight. But till then, well, I’ll figure it out.

Happy Wednesday - it is Wednesday, right???

Good morning everyone – I’m waaay behind this week so it’s a WMP for me (instead of MMP).

I made it to kinfolk’s and back during the Chrispocalypse, with few problems beyond iced up windows on the rental car.

I’m retiring from the just-had-car-accident club here, and joining the stuff-is-breaking-at-my-house club (SIBAMH). So far the washing machine has failed, mid-cycle, and the furnace thermostat failed as well. Thankfully we got a new fancy digital replacement Monday – which promptly failed on Tuesday, shutting off the downstairs heat again. We’re doing OK with the fireplace since the seriously cold weather has passed. Today is supposed to be in the 70s, so we’re in no hurry for the replacement. Both repairmen are scheduled to arrive today, so we expect them Friday (applying the normal CCD*).

pullinSon finally got home from he far East, and is celebrating a late Christmas with his SO. We have finished all holiday stuff (whew) and only need to put away the tree and prepare the traditional New Year’s meal for good luck (ham, black-eyed peas, cornbread, wine, and hot tub afterward).

In the standard old-people stuff: Went to eye-doc again yesterday and was told all is well, except I need cataract surgery (nothing to do with the auto accident, just old age). I start PT tomorrow for the back and neck problems. I talked with my wife and realized I’ve had 6 pickup trucks in my life (since 1976) – and every one of them has been rear-ended. The last three were drivers effing around with their cellphones. There’s also a consistent trend, each wreck is worse than the last. In the back of my mind I’m hearing Roy Scheider say: “You’re gonna need a bigger truck.”

*Contractor Calendar Delta – add 2 days for inside repair, and 5 days for outside repair. It works surprisingly well at predicting.

We haven’t had any mail since last week. Wednesday and Thursday there was a lot of snow, though we did get a few pieces Thursday. We haven’t received any Christmas cards, any junk mail, and not even our weekly free newspaper. Today I received an email from Amazon saying my package was delayed. I went to USPS tracking and saw this:

Your item was returned to the Post Office for address verification on December 27, 2022 at 9:02 pm in BLAINE, WA 98230 because of an incomplete address. Your item will go out for delivery on the next delivery day if the address can be verified.

OK, that’s weird. We were home. I’m going to go to the Post Office when it opens at 08:30 to see what’s up.

EDIT: I found out yesterday that our Christmas bonus checks were mailed last week.
