First annual SDMB Craft Exchange

As much as I wanted to do something like this I think I’m going to decline. I have too many home projects to take care of and I know I’ll put that off to try and work on this and end up getting frustrated with myself like I did with Thing-a-Day. Yes, even with 9 months to work on it I know that’s what I’ll end up doing.

Sorry you decided against it, Wile E, though I certainly understand – that’s why I’m saying “scarf or hat,” I can knock one out in a week or so, makes a nice break in between bigger projects, which can be oppressive. (I’ve been working on these freaking knee socks for my sister for almost a year.)

Anyway, here’s the list as I currently understand it:

twickster: knit (also collages)
Congodwarf: polymer clay
Hello Again: crochet, including stuffed animals and “rag” rugs
amarinth: knit, other fabric crafts, paper crafts
freckafree: freeform bead jewelry
Brynda: beaded jewelry
moi: all kinds of stuff: mixed media, paper, embroider, metal jewelry
TriPolar: wooden box or decorative piece
Biggirl: jewelry and boxes
MissTake: non-hokey cross-stitch
alice_in_wonderland: knit and sew
HazelNutCoffee: knitting; papercrafts with washi tape
Chromaticity: paper cuttings; maps; pencil shadings
Trucelt: crochet
slightly askew: pottery or pysanky (decorated eggs), plus knit/crochet
missred: papercraft, including scrap booking, cards, etc.
third warning: knit, sew, wrapped yarn baskets

If I got something wrong, let me know.

I’ll PM xoferew adn Daedalus about needing to email me, and give this another week before I start doing the matching. So sign up now if you’re on the fence!

(Oh, wait, I’m going to DC next weekend – let’s make the deadline the same as the tax deadline, shall we?)

Sign up by midnight Eastern US time, Monday, April 18.

Turns out that xoferew doesn’t have PM enabled and doesn’t have an email address visible. As a mod, I could get his or her email address in the registration info, but that seems like an abuse of my privileges, so I won’t.

If you want in, xoferew, email per the info in the OP.

Okay, I have now e-mailed you. Sorry for being delinquent!

Yup, got it – great, thanks!

Hi! I’m not signing up for the exchange – I’m aggressively non-talented when it comes to things artistic – but those eggs are amazing! How in the world do you do the designs? I mean, yeah, I get the theory of repeated cycles of wax and dye, but do you plan the patterns out on paper first or what?

And, I hope you don’t mind, but I snagged your picture for my wallpaper. So appropriate to the season.

I must well consider this. Primarily I do jewelry and paper crafts, but goodness knows I’ve dabbled in everything.

Gosh, thanks for all the great comments on the pysanky. It’s a bit of a family tradition so I’ve been making them since I was a kid. I have a couple of books that have designs that I work from, but I vary some aspects of the design so that no two ever end up the same.

If anyone is interested in giving it a try, I get most of my supplies from the Ukrainian Gift Shop. Start up costs are pretty minimal compared to many crafts. I would suggest getting farm chicken or duck eggs if possible. The processing of mass produced eggs sometimes interferes with the dye.

StarvingButStrong – I’m quite flattered that you chose to use it as your wall paper. Thanks and enjoy!

Please do – and sign up before next Monday, when I’m going to do the matching.

Ok, I sent my email.

I am a knitter, and I like to work in cables if anyone has a particular love of that.

I am finally signed up.

I do photography (flickr).

Also, I’m starting to get into glass fusing. If someone does jewelry, I could do some of that for them. Or if they like jewelry, I could give them pendant

Yay!

I’ll post an updated list later, but we’re moving in the direction of closing signup. Email now or forever hold your peace.

Nothing like a last-minute signup…I’m in! I make beaded necklaces…here is an example. I tend to use glass or stone beads; I’m flexible regarding color preferences.

Daedalus still haven’t gotten an email from you, which means you’re not actually signed up. Pls. do that today (before or after filing your taxes).

And anyone else who’s still dithering: tick, tick, tick …

Okay, I said the deadline was tonight, but I did my taxes tonight (oh, hush, I’ve been known to hit “send” as late as 11:30 PM on tax day, 9:30 is practically early for me) and that’s enough thought for one night.

So – sign up by tomorrow if you want to participate.

Okay, this time I mean it – last call for signups, I’m going to do the matches tonight.

Okey doke, finally had time to sit down and fidget with this.

The name above you is the person who will be making something for you; the person below you is the person you’re making something for. (Biggirl, obviously you’re making something for alice_in_wonderland.) I think I got everyone receiving from someone who doesn’t work exclusively in the same medium. (A lot of people knit/crochet; all who are making something for another knitter/crocheter should have an additional craft as well, unless I screwed this up.)

I’m about to start sending out the emails, which will probably take another hour or so, so give me a chance to finish. I’m sending full info: username, real name, email address, mail address.

You don’t have to get in touch with your recipient immediately (though you’re of course welcome to say hi) – if you’re like me, you already have something of a queue going and are not necessarily planning to drop everything to make this. But please contact your person before you start to find out if they have any preferences in areas where you’re willing to listen to preferences. You don’t need to custom-make to precise specifications, obviously, but it’s nice to take favorite colors, etc., into account where you can, and if you’re willing to give your person the choice of an X, Y, or Z, that would be great.

Any questions of problems, let me know.

ETA: I’m not going to be keeping a close watch on the email address I created for this, so if you need a brisk response, either PM me or use my regular SDMB email, which is twicksterSDMB at gmail dot com.

Thanks, Twicks!

The emails have gone out. If you didn’t get one, check your spam filter.

Let the crafting begin!

Anyone started working on their projects yet?
Might be nice to hear what everyone is going to do.
I’ll start mine from next month.
