Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 52 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 77 and mostly sunny for the day. On the plus side more normal temps for this time of year. On the minus side, still no rain in sight and we desperately need rain. No big plans today. Hotdawgs for N.O.L. and I shall make Chikin Divan AKA Couch Chikin and a gallon each of sweet and unsweet tea for brunch after deheathenization tomorrow, that bein’ the first Sunday of the month. We may or may not venture into town. I’m in favor of not, but we shall see.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. I suppose I should purtify somewhat as well.
**BooFae **- There are several of us Mumpers near DC - are you up for a dinner gathering when you’re here? When do you plan to be in Washington? Nearby, there’s Baltimore and Annapolis - two places I think have much to offer, depending upon what interests you when you travel. Feel free to PM me with any specific questions - I’ve got all kinds of opinions and stuff!
Breakfast at the cafe was less than stellar. We’re pretty sure the griddle needs serious cleaning. We did have a word with the owner - since we’re regulars and have never complained before, she knows we’re not just being bitchy. But goodness, were they concerned after I complained. The cook came by twice and the poor server was really concerned - I’m sure she was thinking about her tip. She’s new, so she doesn’t know that we’re there most every weekend. But I couldn’t fault her for the cooks screwing up.
Anyway, **FCD **has gone to the car thing. I’m about to head down to my studio for a few hours. I hope it’s not too chilly down there, especially since I’ll have my hands in water much of the time.
BooFae, if you enjoy the music scene, you could always stop in Nashville, TN on your travels. It’s about 1/3 of the way from the east to the west coasts (are you flying out of Washington, DC or the state of Washington?) and country isn’t the only kind of music that we do.
I’m having a lazy day. The only things that must be done are stripping the bed, getting gas for the car, fixing supper and cleaning up the kitchen. Since supper’s in the crockpot (white chicken chili, but I will have to put some cornbread in the oven and make a salad), that just leaves the rest. I’ll have time for a ride this afternoon.
Break from claying - I’ve thrown 5 (I think) bowls and rolled out 4 slabs. I need to make patterns of the faux stained glass figures. I also need to design the “stable” that **FCD **will cut out on his router table. Maybe I’ll do that first.
Hard work, tho. And I’m pissed off a bit. I bought what I thought was 2 boxes of clay. Turns out one box is powder to mix up into clay. Dammit. I should have opened the boxes and checked. I suppose if I make small batches, I can manage it. But it pisses me off that the people I bought it from lied to me.
Ooops, should have been more specific - it’s DC that we’ll be flying home from.
Moom, I shall definitely be PM’ing you at some point for those opinions. So far we have dates for the flights but that’s about all. Once 'im indoors has got a few other things ironed out, we can start to look at how much time we have to spend in any one place. However, a mini-mumpfest would be a great idea!
My fingers are all going in the wrong directions this morning.
It’s a N.O.S. 60 degrees outside.
I just woke up, although I was up earlier and even earlier.
Cat likes his laser toy so much he wants to play in the middle of the night. He also reminded me that when one has a cat one must sleep with their toes beneath the covers.
Is it a co-incidence that cat rhymes with brat?
Cat is still called Cat. Sometimes I call him Knucklehead - he likes to sleep on the floor next to me. Sometimes I call him Moocher. Last night I was making some hamburgers and he was begging for raw ground beef. Every time I sit down to eat he is right there trying to stick his nose in my food.
Today’s agenda includes finding a new place to feed Cat. The dog found the cat’s bowls, which explains why he isn’t begging so much for treats and why the cat is going through so much food.
I’ll have to hold my nose, but today is the day I’ll finally vote. Then I can put the ballots in the mail on the way back from the college tomorrow - Geology Test. So far he has A’s in all of his classes. I’m enjoying his Geology class, who knew that air pollution contributes to obesity and diabetes?
I’m glad you are feeling better Swampy. Chili cheese dogs sound good, so maybe I’ll stop by Sonic on the way home tomorrow.
I need to get my lazy ass up and moving. The clothes will not wash themselves, and there is vacuuming, and dusting, and cleaning the kitchen and bathrooms. I’ll probably not irk this weekend because irk sent me an email requesting more hours for the next two weeks. I should do stuff around the house since I’ll be irking more and will have less time to clean and stuff.
BooFae There is lots and lots to do between Boston and Washington. More than you’ll have time for. I’d sort by interests (historical, touristy, music, art, etc) and then maybe even start a thread on IMHO and get the wider Board involved. DC alone would keep you busy the whole time.
Hello all. I have been in hiding/mourning since the purple hair fiasco of 2016. Somehow my stylist and I miscommunicated. I knew it was going sideways when someone else commented, “Oooo, you look like a unicorn.” :dubious:? “You know, with all the pretty colors?” I have lived in fear since then that I would get compared to a “Little Pony” with their rainbow manes. :smack: Not purple, is what I’m getting at. Not only purple anyway. I need to find someone else to fix it. It’s on the list.
On other fronts, my attorney and my former employer have agreed on wording so that my disability doesn’t get cut off now that I have left, so that’s a good thing.
Mostly the week has just left me feeling anxious/sad for lost things and the ever-present ill.
Howdy Y’all! Today has been one of productivity with intermittent sloth. Nice way to spend a day. I made tea and assembled the couch chikin, which I will bake in the mornin’. I even mulched some leaves in the yahd. Go Me!
{{{Sunny}}} sorry about the hair color and employment situation. Yay, however, for not gettin’ cut off disability.
I has a “short” eight hour day today. I’m getting ready to go downtown to celebrate the Grand Re-
Opening of my favorite pub.
Alex Catt’s nickname is “Bowling Ball”, based on the noise she makes doing the morning zoomies, and the less than graceful landings when she leaps up on my bed.
Why in the WORLD is it so hard to find a car rental place open on Saturday?
Our car’s still sick, DH starts a new job Monday with an interview also scheduled for a possible better job. Answer winds up being renting a car after some number-crunching.
We’re now waiting for a Lyft driver to take us to the airport to get the rental car, which we’ve booked for a week (might have to extend that).
We et an earlyish dindin of chikin leftover from last night, stewed potatoes, green beans, and rolls. I cannot believe I actually cooked an entire meal as I was leanin’ towards foragin’ the fridge. Go Me!
Nettie glad y’all found a rental. Yay for the hubs on the new job and the potential better job. Appropriate/inappropriate appendages shall be crossed re both.
My younger brother (may he RIP) had a cat we eventually named DA. Cat was dumber than a box of rocks. Affectionate but just DUMB. Always ran into walls and/or doorways. Whenever he jumped up onto sump’n there was always a 50/50 chance (more often like 80/20) he wouldn’t make it onto what he was jumpin’ on. He was a biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiig kitty and when he took off in a full run sounded like an elephant herd on steroids. Good cat though. Just D.U.M.B.
Everything is going bang around here, it being Bonfire Night. I do like watching fireworks, but I’m starting to really wish they’d knock it off now, I have irk in the morning.
We let Salsa’s make supper - and there’s enough left over for tomorrow’s lunch. Yum!
The rest of the evening shall involve maximum chillage. I may sleep with Mel tonight - I don’t much like waking in the wee dark hours. But yay for getting an extra hour!!
I did get out on the bike this afternoon. I went up to see my SIL on a mission of mercy and Mexican pastries. She’s in the last two weeks of radiation for a cancer that was caught early enough to escape chemo (we hope!) and enjoys a short visit on the weekend over tea.
The white chicken chili is good, even though I didn’t do cornbread with it. I just threw a couple of corn tortillas on the griddle until slightly crispy and they’re good.
We went over to OYKW’s place to set all his clocks back an hour and I just set all the clocks at da cave that need to be reset back an hour. So from now until 2:00 EST we live an hour in the past. How quaint is the past.
Time to start changing some of the clocks. We have way to many clocks dammit. Yeah – I know – I say this twice a year. Because twice a year I understand just how true it is.
