Game of Thrones 4.05 "The First Of His Name" 5/4/14 NO SPOILERS

Caitlyn also offered up the “King of the North” for a matchmaking agreement without consulting him. Yes, she was sent in to negotiate but she gave up the farm in her rush to get through the bridge.

eta: Little Finger’s strategy is to get as high up the ladder as he can WITHOUT warfare (though not without killing). The Veil makes a nice safe base but yeah, he’s not necessarily staging a military campaign from there.

HBO spells it “Littlefinger” - and you can even get a replica of his pin!: HBO Shop

Which is really the only point – from a GRRM, moving the pieces around the board, advancing the story line standpoint. Not sure it was worth it.

And this is the 2nd time in a half-dozen episodes where we’ve been *this *close to a Stark family reunion, only to have it snatched away. Let’s not go back to that well too often.

When the “previously on GoT” montage goes back to Season 1…you know you’re in for a “Whoa!” episode.

“Good night, Hound. Sleep well. I’ll likely kill you in the morning.”
As Arya was going down her list, I realized that I badly need a User’s Guide. I have no idea who half those people are. Link?

Littlefinger is clearly ambitious, and would like to have a lot of power. I don’t think we particularly know whether that means that he himself wants to sit on the Iron Throne, or whether he’d be perfectly happy being Hand of the King to a puppet. It’s also a bit unclear whether being the most powerful man in one of the seven kingdoms is something that he actually is happy with for its own sake, or whether it’s purely a stepping stone to full-continental-bosshood.

Which episode was that? I’d like to go back and watch that scene again.

Joffrey
Cersei
Walder Frey - organized the red wedding
Meryn Trant - killed Syrio (her fencing instructor)
Tywin Lannister
The Red Woman - Melisandre, took her buddy Gendry away
Beric Dondarrion - got resurrected a lot, gave Gendry away
Thoros of Myr - did the resurrecting, gave Gendry away
Ilyn Payne - executed Ned
The Mountain - The Hound’s brother, general evil bastard, specifically was in charge of Harrenhall while Arya was there before Tywin showed up
The Hound

Joffrey
Cersei
Walder Frey - old guy from the red wedding
Meryn Trant - kingsguard who killed her trainer Syrio Florel
Tywin Lannister
The red woman - Melissandre, i guess for taking Gendry
Beric Dondarrion - leader of the brotherhood without banners that keeps getting brought back to life each time he dies
Thoros of Myr - red priest from the brotherhood without banners who brings Beric back to life, both of them presumably for giving up Gendry to the red woman
Ilyn Payne - royal executioner, killed Ned
The Mountain - Gregor Clegane, all around dick and the hounds brother

That was her list from the latest episode, i guess they haven’t found out about Joffrey yet.

Season 2 Episode 6.

Damn your fast typing skills Max!

Thank you! It was Meryn Trant, Beric Dondarrion and Thoros of Myr that were the most :confused: to me. Although I’m still fuzzy on the Arya-Gendry connection. And when did she ever meet The Mountain?

She will not get a chance at Ilyn because he was written out of the show due to terminal cancer IRL… so I guess - by spirit of the law - she can count that one as done, no?

At this rate she really needs more people on her list to get whacked by other people. She offed Polliver herself and Joffrey’s dead, but she started with a list of six people and now it’s eleven (with nine living).

The mountain and his men were the ones that captured her and Gendry and hotpie and killed Lommy and took them to harrenhal. Arya and Gendry are just friends who met while Yoren was taking them to the wall.

Arya and Gendry met when they were both in the convoy of recruits for the Night’s Watch that headed out of King’s Landing at the end of season 1. They then went through many harrowing adventures, got captured, were held in Harrenhall for a while (Arya was Tywin’s cupbearer, Gendry was a blacksmith), where Arya met Jaqen H’Gar the shape-changing assassin; escaped together, and eventually encountered the Brotherhood Without Banners. That’s when Beric and Thoros, in charge of the Brotherhood, sold Gendry to Melisandre, which pissed Arya off a lot, so she ran away (and was immediately caught by The Hound).

She encountered The Mountain because he was in charge of Harrenhall when she first showed up, when those really mean guys were torturing a random person every day via chest-mounted rat cage.

The great Wilko Johnson has cancer and won’t be portraying Ilyn Payne any more, but GoT has replaced major characters with different actors several times already. There’s no reason they couldn’t find another sinster looking bald guy if the story demands more Ilyn Payne.

Gendry and Arya became friends from when they were rounded up en route to the Wall for their respective protection before they were ambushed and sent to Harrehall. I think he was the first one to figure out that she was a girl. They escaped Harrenhall together thanks to the man with no face, got taken by the brotherhood without banners who gave Gendry up to Melisandre and somewhere along the way they lost the fat kid.

This got me thinking though, Gendry and Poderick look like brothers to me.

Thank you,

The Vale and The Eyrie are two different things. The Vale is the region, surrounded by mountains (hence the name Vale), with entry pretty much limited through the Bloody Gate. The Eyrie is the castle, which is way up in the mountains making it nigh impenetrable.

Hot Pie (the fat kid) stayed on at the one inn to live as a baker.
