Game of Thrones 5.03 "High Sparrow" 4/26/15 [Show Discussion]

Littlefinger does not want the North, he wants everything. He now has the support of the Eyre and an ally in charge of the North. That is two of the seven kingdoms. Robb Stark had the north and the best army in Westeros and it didn’t do him any good.

That’s nothing compared to Brienne stumbling across BOTH Stark girls.

Plus Theon was practically a member of the Stark family, so it’s possible that any servants remaining from the days when the Starks ruled Winterfell might be sympathetic to Theon’s situation and horrified at what’s happened to him. (Assuming they have any idea of the torture he’s undergone. Even without knowing precisely what happened to him, it’s clear that Theon was broken.)

The remaining servants saw him burn Bran and Rickon at the stake, they are probably more dangerous to him than the Boltons.

I guess I just feel bad for Sansa, Ramsey’s girlfriend is as scary as he is.

I forgot about that. OK, they’re not going to be sympathetic to Theon. But Sansa is still basically an innocent in all of these machinations.

What other characters have we seen who aren’t guilty of some misdeed? Brienne and Podrick come to mind. But most of the characters have blood on their hands. Some quite a lot of blood.

We know he lied, his lips were moving.

I was actually implying that Jorah was there for the services of the prostitute imitating his former Khaleesi.

Little Finger already has the Vale. In some ways it is better to control a thing than to own it, so he can control the north through Sansa while continuing to own the Vale. The Boltons’ hold on Winterfell is likely temporary with Stannis planning to attack, so ideally Sansa will be left widowed and in control of the North.

I can’t believe how mainstream they are these days. Go to any college town and you see hordes of Sorority girls wearing “The North Face” jackets. Girl, I hear ya! I wouldn’t want to face them either when they start remembering.

I think it’s most likely that Littlefinger has heard some rumors but doesn’t know the full truth. He likely thinks that Ramsay is more like Joffrey. I think if Joffrey had ended up married to Margaery, he would have treated her vaguely poorly, but would have reserved his crossbowing and torture for whores who didn’t matter. Ramsay is a whole other level of sadistic crazy, but I doubt Littlefinger knows that he likes to hunt women through the forest like dogs.
I think Littlefinger’s overall plan is a sound one. If 5 years down the line Sansa has an legitimate Bolton baby, and is a legitimate Stark, and Roose and Ramsay are both conveniently dead, and there’s a good bit of military might backing them up, then who in the north would NOT recognize and follow them?
One other thing I noticed was that Littlefinger referred to Sansa as “the eldest surviving Stark child” or something like that. “Eldest”, not “only”. Which may or may not mean anything, although it seems like most of the outside world should think that all the other Stark kids are dead.

Well, Brienne has killed a bunch of people, but always for what seemed like a good reason. But then you could say the same of Tyrion. Prominent still-living characters who I think have pretty much always acted in a non-evil fashion include:
-Sam (and Gilly)
-Tommen, Rickon, Bran and Meera
-Hodor
-Missandei
-Gendry
-Gray Wurm

When Jorah grabs Tyrion at the end and says that he is going to bring him to the Queen, it’s meant to be ambiguous, correct? While it could mean Daeneris (to get back on her good side), it could also mean Cersei (for the reward).

This is what I was going to say. And she already gave her the stink eye. In Sansa’s favor, she’s not the naive girl who married Jeofry anymore, Roos needs her alive and she is in a palace full of allies who hate the current owner.

Is Gendry ever going to rejoin the plot? Last we saw, he was getting in a row boat pointed at King’s Landing…

To Jorah, there is only one queen, legally, morally, and romantically. However, Tyrion does not know that. So the ambiguity is for him, not us. He thinks Jorah means to return him to Cersei for a reward.

Littlefinger told Sansa that Arya is alive back in King’s Landing last season.

Perhaps he’s rowing against the current?

As always, part of the fun of these threads is seeing the creative misspellings of every character’s name.

Why would Jorah take him to Dany? He is under sentence of death if he returns to Mereen.

Killed a baby.
