I figure he was focusing on the ‘gin’ and ‘ale’ portions, although I have to admit that I can’t recall that I have ever seen that particular nomenclature for Ginger Ale (gin’jale) myself.
Red, I’m about 100 miles south of you, next time I’m up BNA way I’ll let you know and I’ll treat you to some Double White Castles with extra pickles…<grin>
I have an external 3.5" for some of my oldest files and another (unconnected) for the big thick ZIP-disks that were going to be the new thing a few years ago. Now my desk is littered with thumb drives, and I wonder what the next new thing will be…
Been computer-window shopping for my “Geezer” car when I retire next year. Scoping out the Volvo XC90 since it apparently won Motor Trends “SUV of the year”. Nice but damn, that’s a lot of money…
Yeah, last time I was in the hospital, one of the nurses asked me if I’d like a gin’jale to take my medications with, and I had no idea what she was asking me. She had to repeat it two or three times before I understood she meant “ginger ale”. I use “gin’jale” here as kind of a dig at her.
Howdy Y’all! Irk is done and da bear is chillin’. In a little while I shall have the General’s dindin, aig drop soup, and an aigroll to munch upon. I’m commencin’ to be hungry, so the sooner the better.
Yesterday I had the interesting experience of trying to explain to Sunny-son why people make fun of the French all the time but when it comes down to it we will support them. I finally said it’s kind of like family. You can tease, but when something serious happens, you are there to support them. He was going to go back to school today and explain that the French aren’t cowards who deserved what happened. My husband announced later that Sunny-son must be going to school with red-necks. Which is ironic, this being Silicon Valley and all. ignorance is everywhere.
The day started out clear, but it’s overcast and dreary now, and quite chilly. Just 2 days in the mid-60s ahead, then autumn returns big time. Guess it couldn’t last forever.
I was awakened at 3:30-ish by a pug standing on my chest. I let her out to pee, but I didn’t fall back to sleep. About 4:30, I just gave up and got up. But I did get about 6 uninterrupted hours of sleep, so there’s that.
**Butters **- we were pay-banded for a couple of years and my boss would max out raises for me and minimize bonuses. When they put us back under GS, I was 13-10. Had we stayed under that system, I wouldn’t have gotten past step 8, so my boss done me a BIG favor! It made my high-3 that much higher.
Work was frustrating, mostly due to computer issues, but the day went fast, so yay! Supper will be mac-n-cheese because it’s quick and easy and I don’t feel like making a real meal. Bedtime may come early - we shall see.
A couple weeks ago I upped my 401K contribution by 5% so with the 3% raise it won’t be as noticeable. Depending on how much my check decreases I want to raise the contribution another 3%. Ain’t getting any younger.
Last year I had over 8% growth but this year it’s barely 3% on my 401K. It’s kinda disheartening when I check it to see such lousy earnings but I can’t not try to build it.
I will probably starve to death in my retirement.
The General’s dindin has been ingested. ‘Twas good. Plus, there’s cake for later if desired. OYKW, bless his heart, had a looooooong day and is uber tahrd. He is preparin’ himself a bath and says he may crash afterwards. I’ll hide on the other side of da cave (where I am now) if’n he does decide on goin’ to bed with Mel so as not to disturb him. I’m nice like that. Dammit.
Mac-n-cheese-n-peas has been ingested. No dessert-like substances in the house, tho, unless I go for an apple. I’m not in an apple mood.
Dunno what’s on TV, but I may go back early and watch Netflix in bed, in the hopes that Higgs will chill out before I turn the lights out. She seems to think bedtime is feet-lickin’ time. Not my feet - hers. It’s a very noisy process. Goofy dog.
I’ll surf a wee bit more, then crochet for a bit. Dunno if I’ll get back here, so MWAH!!

Lucky you. Both the edible Chinese place and the Thai place near here are closed on Tuesdays. DH wanted wonton soup for lunch today, but had to settle for split pea soup, rather than try his chances with the weird Chinese/Korean/Sushi place that does three cuisines, none very well.
Dinner for tonight is strip steaks that the local grocery had on crazy special recently for $4.88 a pound. He needs at least a couple good meals before going back to the hospital on Friday. As hospital food goes, the food there is pretty good, but as food goes, it’s not so great. :dubious: I’m already planning to smuggle in some scones and tea sandwiches from the tea shop this weekend.
There are some real numble-nutz people working on the house across the street. When I went out to get the paper on Sunday, I saw the door was open and there was no sign of workers. Not knowing if someone broke in to steal tools and supplies or whatever, we called the cops, who came out, looked around, and ultimately locked the door and left. Somebody was working at the house yesterday as if nothing happened, so I guess their tools were still there. Today, guess what’s wide open again? :smack:
Mac 'n cheeeeese was a success, although I didn’t use quite enough noodles for the amount of sauce. Oh, well.
We watched Wheeljep during dinner. Game 2 of Jeopardy’s semifinal round of the Tournament of Champions. They had a “tough ballet moves” category that looked painful.
