Gosh, they missed me - MMP

You need that now or next April? Hopefully it’s next April at tax time, and you’ll have paid enough mortgage interest and property taxes by then to negate the tax hit.

What’s the situation that your company (employer, I’m assuming) is paying closing costs? Just wondering, as my employer drops closing costs entirely for employees, and it wasn’t charged back to me as a benefit. It’s just a perk.

Oh, if this is a last-minute, gotta pay before you can close type thing, $938 is nothing. We had a roughly $7,000 surprise - think it was something daffy like a property tax payment that didn’t get added in, and the delay in having new mortgage docs done up would have jeopardized the whole deal, so we raped a 401(k) and sold off all of our leftover cinnamon and toilet paper to get the money faster.

Technically it is a $4500 surprise - the $938 was just the icing on the cake today!

And apparently it is classed as income so I have to pay tax on everything!

The $938 in “tax” has to paid with closing costs so all the do instead of payign to full amoutn then charging me on my paycheck the tax for it they deduct the tax from what they pay me in closing costs so that it evens out. Allegedly. My relocation counsellor advised me to call payroll - she was surprised it hadn’t been explained to me.

Confused yet - me to!

Call off the search - I’m here. I’m fine. I’m not lost or abducted, so you can stop worrying!!

Yeah, I know - no one noticed I was late… fine…

Right after work, I changed into grubbies and headed to the marina. I managed to get the first coat of bottom paint on the boat, and on my arms, and on my glasses (damn!! :frowning: ) and in my hair. But it looks good. Tomorrow, I’ll do the second coat, and they’re going to try to get us in the water on Saturday.

**FCD ** had to re-do the plumbing from the head (toilet to you landlubbers) - the previous owner cobbled together all manner of hoses and fittings, including stuff that was not designed to do what he was trying to have it do. Plus he hadn’t bothered to empty the holding tank (half full of TMI) and we discovered several dried “clogs” in one hose and the macerator. Replacing all the bad stuff has so far cost over $100. That’s on top of the $1000 we’ve spent so far, not counting our yard bill.

'Tis truly said that a boat is a hole in the water into which you throw money. At least the repairs/replacements we’ve made are done right and we shouldn’t have to worry about any of our major systems from here on out. And with luck, we’ll actually get out on the bay this summer.

Anyway, we finished up at the boat yard, then came home, showered, and went out for bad Chinese. My sweetie is in his shop making a mounting board for the new Y valve and I’ve got a load of rags in the washer. Other than that, we’re done. Unless he wants to move furniture. I’m hoping he’s too tired.

I moved to my new cubicle at work and talked to one of the people who assign me work. She pretty much said “Figure out something that will benefit the command and do it.” I swear, if I wasn’t so close to retirement, I’d be joining the exodus. Seems like everyone I speak to has resumes out. 977 more days…

Just gotta get thru tomorrow, then I have 4 days off - YAY!

Wow, that stinks, ems. Hopefully the surprises will cease once you’ve closed on the house.

Just got home again and am going straight to bed… I’m sleepy and I have an early meeting (of course).

Is it Friday yet? (Tomorrow’s my Friday - yay!!!)

Do we have a volunteer yet for next Monday?

GT

Morning all! I’m having one of those weeks when everybody wants things and they all want them yesterday - on top of my normal workload, of course. Then yesterday I got to spend half the day doing some system testing (which isn’t my job), today I have a morning training session to go to and then I’m meeting a friend for lunch. I might actually do some of my own work this afternoon except I know someone else wants me to run a whole load of reports on student numbers for them…it’s also not my job and as usual I’ll be bailing our section’s part-timers. Just a little peeved, in case you didn’t notice.

Get better, all you sick people!

Why is it that in most relocation jobs, the worst part is the helpful people helping you?

I can think of a few who raise my blood pressure, and don’t even know the names of all of them.

Lots of potential happenings at the VunderLair today, and I won’t be there to see any of it.

The guy from the mobility company is supposed to be there bright and early to put a new scooterlift in The Family Truckster Part Deux for VWife.

The Mayberry Water Company is supposed to finally get around to fixing the leaking water main that is puddling in my yard. Someone was even there yesterday to mark the line.

The Jungle[sup]tm[/sup] and derelict barns are supposed to be swallowed up by a huge hole in the ground. The cousin of my tenant farmer is bringing his heavy equipment to knock everything down and bury it all.

I’ll do the MMP on Monday, if no one else wants to. I’ll regale you all with “The Tale of the Lost Cojones.” Ernie’s getting neutered tomorrow.

I’m off tomorrow and Monday, so a 4-day weekend for me! Yay! I’m gonna get a mani and pedi, and a haircut sometime this weekend.

Have a good day, everyone!

So [del]railroaded[/del] moved!

Ugh. I felt so out of it yesterday. Lack of sleep and all that – which is odd, having just come off a long weekend and all. Still … ugh. Feeling a bit better this morning though, just waiting for the inevitable Thursday Rush to turn up, wherein I’ll barely get a moment’s peace.

Bah! It starts already. I shall return.

Morning all!

I found a new guilty pleasure at, of all places - MacDonalds. Cinnamon Bites? I think that was what I mumbled.

Yum. A little cardboard bowl of pure sugar-ated, little balls of dough and frosting.

Kind of a busy day today: Meet with Captain Nick at the PD in about 45 minutes, then the Nice HR Lady is coming over twice to do the sexual harassment training for my people. They’re pros at that, they could probably show her all the things NOT to do.

And, we may be getting our fancy, ‘SMARTY Bus’ back today. This is a brainstorm the boss and I had last year, that I then delegated to one of my people to see through. We took a retired, short bus, with a wheelchair lift and are converting it to a mobile, educational/promotional platform. It’s all decorated with a fancy-schmancy paint job and declas. Nice colors, but you can still tell it’s a school bus. Inside we took out the seats, and put in storage cabinets, a flat screen, power to run that and a laptop (my old one) that will show educational videos about bus safety, or walking safety, etc.

Our meeting with Cpt. Nick today is about the bus, finding ways that the PD can use it WITH us at places like the town fair, Downtown Open House, block parties…

I’ve already set up with our Director for Elementary T & L (teaching and learning) that we’ll have every second grader in the district next year have the bus visit their school and get a roughly 20 minute long module about bus safety.

It’s WAY cool, and the BEST part? Cost us NUTTIN’. Every bit of work, every piece of equipment, all the labor - all donated.

I have some pictures of it being worked on, when I get some of the finished product, I’ll slip them up here.

The original ‘working name’ of the thing was “Pimp My Bus”. SMARTY is apprantly an acronym, but I kinda liked PMB better. :stuck_out_tongue:

I am a horrible person. I found out last night that a former flame (of sorts–it was kind of complicated) has really let himself go since I knew him. Since I am horrible, I reacted with spiteful glee to this news. I’m going to go do some penance now.

Just when I think I’ve had all the allergy fun I can stand … last night pollen got in my eye (I assume) and it swelled shut! Bloodshot and dripping and swelled up like I’d been in a prizefight! This was a new one, and I’ve been dealing with these springtime allergies since I was a kid. Ugh! Fortunately it had mostly gone down this morning; now I just look bloodshot and hung-over. It’s not an especially gorgeous look on me, but what are ya gonna do?

FCM, we’re getting our little boat ready for summer; it’s a runabout/ski boat and not an oceangoing, sleep-on type vessel like you apparently have … but I’m so looking forward to spending the summer on the lake! Today if I have time my mission is going to be to find a vacation cottage where we can spend a few days in June.

bobbio it sounds like a lot going on! I can’t believe you don’t feel the need to stand guard, especially with bulldozing. I assume they can tell the derelict buildings from the “good” ones!

LiLi, hope the tummy’s calm this morning!

Morning all! Hope all the sickies are feeling better.

Someonen gave me “The Secret” on audio CDs and I started listening to it this morning. I am withholding judgement til I get a little bit further in. Feel free to comment.

I usually try to take the Friday before Mem. Weekend off so I can have a 4-day but I cannot this time around. Howsomeever, we’re closing up shop tomorrow at 3:00. Wh00t!

That’s all I got for now.

Tupug

I recommend penance that has something (or lots) to do with chocolate. He obviously deserved it!

Morning all, I am up and caffeinated. I gotta run out to Kroger, I forgot to buy breakfast food when I went on a beer run last night(At least I got my priorities right).

Naughty, wicked, evil Tel! Off to Castle Anthrax for penance. :stuck_out_tongue:

MBG, McDonalds? Bless your heart, you don’t have a Krispy Kreme near you.

Rebo, Is Ernie getting Neuticles?

Do I have to do less penance if I point out that the old flame in question is and was a big jerk?

It’s Friday for me! We’re headed to Chicago tonight. Should be a good weekend with a nice mix of seeing/doing touristy things and relaxing/being bums. We need this getaway!

I don’t want to be at work today. The busy-ness of the last couple months finally slowed down, but it slowed so far down that now I’m bored. Bah! Isn’t there a happy medium?

Doesn’t **ems **have a nickname? I’m not creative or I’d try to come up with one. But I really think we can do better than ems.

If it’s chocolate-based, there should only ever be more penance!

OMG! No way! That is too funny. “For their self-esteem?” Puh-leeze…

I meant to mention - we get cicadas every year. Are they a different insect than the 7-year ones (or however many years y’all said)? They should be coming out any time now, as soon as it gets hot. I used to play with them when I was a kid, and collect their little paper shells…
