Just a drive by to say that cicadas are the ugliest, nastiest critters on God’s green earth. I am squicked out by them. <shudders>
Someone should make a horror movie called Cicadas of Death–they are that gross. Red eyes and a weird ticking sound. As a child, I thought they were cool and enjoyed killing them. Now? Just uck and ick and ugh.
Our databases are down again this morning. It’s so much fun trying to get anything done with no access to data. Especially when one’s job is Data Analyst.
Should us Cool Kids run for our lives? I’m real bad at running!
When we first got the cats (they were my mom’s for years, but she moved and couldn’t keep them where she was going) my GF’s daughter (Younger Stepdaughter-To-Be) made up MySpace pages for them. I think she’s checked them once since the first week. Otherwise, I’m sure they’d have more friends.
Puggy Toy is 5, and Rascal is 9. But that would make them minors on MySpace, and we didn’t want any petophiles stalking them online.
And that, Sir Spats is the proper use of a pun.
Hmm…do you have an exoskeleton and wings? Red eyes? Do you fly into people seemingly on purpose, get tangled in their hair and then start making noise? Do you eat young trees and leave your previous skeletons laying about like some* litter* bug?
If so, yes, I will kill you with pleasure!

I don’t eat trees.

I had one of those Defining Moments last night that says “You’re a homeowner when…”
On the way home from work, we stop by Sears to look at roto-tillers. Just to look, I thought. We buy a “used” floor model for about 45% off regular price. (Oh joy, now I have four things with engines!) They load it into the truck, we go home, and before we open the front door, we’re unloading the tiller and shooting weeds with Roundup.
We’re still in our office job clothes, haven’t looked at the mail, haven’t started dinner, and we’re doing yardwork. You just don’t do that when you live in an apartment.
hi
migraine since yesterday
postponed PT til tomorrow, but I will do my 'cises later.
back to bed with ice pack on head.
later
Hey y’all! Aww sorry you feel bad BioRosie. Migraines are no fun. Get lots of rest.
Bobbio I did not make the final cut for Warm Springs. I thought I mentioned this, but knowin’ me I didn’t. Anywho, I found that out two weeks ago. No biggie. Others are interested. I have interviews tomorrow and Friday as well.
I want a plant named dead nettle cause it’d be fun to tell people it’s dead nettle. Also… BAND NAME!
I’ve been wondering if any of those folks that have not been paid in six weeks have contacted USDOL Wage and Hour. There’s got to be sump’n that could be done. It’s scary to think that a place is so bad that no local bank would extend a line of credit. Heck, I feel so bad for ‘em I even thought about contacting Wage and Hour. Also makes me wonder what else is goin’ unpaid. SHEESH!
rosie, migraines are awful things. Hope the ice pack helps!
So. Tired. I shouldn’t have stayed out so late last night - I had to get up at 6:45am (which is hard when I’ve become accustomed to getting up at 8am at the earliest) and go to work. They STILL don’t have a textbook for me. Ok, so I understand the students getting their textbooks late. But shouldn’t they have a teacher’s copy, considering it’s the same book they used last semester? Hm? How am I supposed to compose a syllabus without a book?!
Plus I have two final papers due next Tuesday. Woe is me!!
Haven’t seen/heard any cicadas yet, but I suppose it’s just a matter of time.
You know what’s not fun to throw up? Orange juice.
I’m making a mental list of things I shouldn’t drink or eat in the morning, because it sucks (more than usual) to throw them up.
rosie, I’m so sorry you have a migraine. Get lots of rest, and come chat with us later. Hugs.
And I’m going to guess with all the bigger, old trees in Hyde Park, you’re going to get a ton of them!
Enjoy!
I heard somewhere that bananas are good to eat in that situation, because they taste pretty much the same in either direction.
Just sayin’.
rosie, I’ve never had migraines but they sound awful, and I HATE all head pain. Tell Smokey to keep the purring down a bit…
I’m glad to report that I live in a relatively cicada free zone. Those little boogers just creep me out!
In other news, there’s lizard foreplay happenin’ on my back porch! Soon there will be hot and heavy lizard lovin’. Maybe this time they’ll pick a more secluded spot for that. Last time it was right in front of the door where everybody could see! Lizards have no sense of propriety.
We’re havin’ dinner at friends’ house tonight. That’s nice cause that means no cookin’ for me. We are, however, bringing a bottle of wine. Good wine. It has a cork in it. We’re all couth and classy like that. Speakin’ of cookin’, I haven’t cooked even once this week. It’s been stuff like sammiches and pizza all week. Plus poor ACBG has had a lot of paperwork stuff to deal with at home so no spend the night nights this week either.
We shall make up for lost time this weekend, so never fear. Since this is Memorial Day weekend in Amurrka, we’ll be doin’ ribs, baked beans, N.O.T. salad, coleslaw, corn-on-the-cob, watermelon, the works! Pool party and feast on Saturday… YAY!!!
Sorry about the migraine, Rosie. I hope you feel better soon. Migraines suck!
Just make sure you don’t get dehydrated, LiLi. My sister at one point had pregnancy nausea bad enough to need to be hospitalized for it. So when your nausea subsides, make sure you’re at least getting enough liquids! I hope your nausea subsides soon, though. By all accounts it’s no fun at all.
Alice was kind enough to take me out to lunch today. We tried the (one and only) Indian restaurant in Annapolis, which has a weekday lunch buffet. It was good, not seriously exciting and, as is always the case with buffets, a bit bland for our tastes, but the variety was nice and the bread was heavenly. And it was definitely an improvement from my normal “grab whatever’s available” lunches at home! Alice is a nice daughter.
Now, of course, I just want to take a nap; I’m still a bit headachy from whatever was bothering me last night. I guess I probably should since I have another [del]annoying[/del] important congressional [del]drivel[/del] committee hearing headed my way, and it would be good to be rested before tackling it since it’s seriously sleep-inducing anyway. This time, however, I refuse to open the door and sign for the stupid envelope when the messenger arrives, because the messenger fails to notice Every. Single. Time. that the “special instructions” block on the package says, “NO SIGNATURE NEEDED.” I hung a (surprisingly courteous) note on the front door to the effect of, “Read the damn instructions, idiot!” We’ll see if it works. I’m not holding my breath.
The doctor said as long as I was drinking, everything would be okay. I’m both drinking lots and keeping my prenatal supplements down. The hospitalization-for-dehydration thing terrifies me.
Water is good to throw up. Ginger ale isn’t bad. Cranberry cocktail is okay if it’s diluted. Tea (clear tea with sugar) and jello are both fine. Dry crackers are no fun at all. I really hate bananas, so I can’t comment. I’m sure you’re all glad I’m keeping you informed.
Oooh, I love naan, MT. And poppadums. And dal. Well, normally I do.
It’s so awful you’re throwing up so much Liss! I never threw up once, but had plenty of nausea and indigestion. Try some mind games on yourself and see if that helps. (“Yesterday was my last puke day.”) I never considered the possibility of puking; don’t know if that’s why I didn’t or I’m just lucky. Hope it ends soon!
I hope we have plenty of Memorial Day grilling! Steaks, chicken and pork chops are all ready. So are some dogs for the kids. I even have a watermelon! I"m really looking forward to doing a whole chicken or two; we bought the rotisserie attachment.
Yesterday we had primary elections here. Lots of Dems running and my man finished abysmally. <pout> At least the winner was my second choice. Now it’s on to November to oust the dirty Republican incumbent! (with apoligies to any good R-rated friends I may have here.
Hope everyone’s feeling better soon. Hope the migraine’s better rosie and that the all-day morning sickness subsides soon, LiLi. And feel better, MamaT. Gotta get all that drivel transcribed. I think of you whenever I hear reports on congressional hearings.
Yeah, analyzing data without the data is kinda challenging, taxi.
Persian shield is awesome, Taters. It looks like it couldn’t possibly occur in nature (in a good way) and requires very little care. I’ve meant to plant it at home for several years now, but didn’t make it till this year.
Gardening is a major hobby, Heff. I volunteer at a local park where (among other things) I help design and plant lots of containers. I also work on the garden at church. I think I might try to do more with it after I retire (that’s still a few years off), but nothing really serious.
I’m home early as my brain was pretty much used up for today. Much less stress and more accomplishment than yesterday, though.
Need to get more stuff done in the garden (you knew that, right?). But first I’m going to get a haircut.
Back later to catch up with everyone else.

Apparently it is migraine day today - I had what seemed to be a hellacious one brewing this morning. Took a ton of meds, slept ,ice packs on my eyes and I seemed to catch it before it went to far.
This buying a house lark is stressing me the hell out hence the almost migraine. Am having to come up with an extra $938 that I wasn’t expecting as my Company refrained from telling me that I would have to pay the income tax on the benefit of them paying some of the closing costs upfront.

Starting to hate the damn house AND the sellers are refusing to fix anything
I am home, laundry is running, and I have a bug in my hair.
Sean, neat CatSpace pages, horrible puns.
I wish my doc would say that to me.
Hope you feel better soon.
I hope you are feeling better, Rosie
Good luck with the papers, Haze!
swampy, lizard see, lizard do.
Hope the house thing works out, ems.
