Got A Beer Complaint? Tell Me All About It! The MMP

Lunch break. I looked up and saw that it was 2 already - time flies when you’re glazing. Hmmmm - that would make a lovely cross-stitch sampler, wouldn’t it?

**MamaTigs ** - it got down to 55 here last night <siiiigh> and we haven’t seen 80 yet today, so yay! Long range forecast for Sat is scattered T-storms and upper 80s - but that will likely change. So we should be good for the show. Incidentally, do I need to send you directions, or did your darling daughter leave them for you?

Oh, lunch is leftover sketties - yummerrific! And since **FCD ** isn’t here, I don’t have to share! :stuck_out_tongue:

This long weekend is giving me a taste of what retirement will be like. I think I could get used to it rather easily…

Incidentally, why am I getting a gazillion spams for replica watches at my Yahoo address?? That address is only used for my various message board memberships - do spammers cruise boards amassing addresses? Buncha bums…

Ah, I see.

The hubby just left to go wakeboarding with the neighbor and his buddies. I’m sure they’ll have fun.

If I wouldn’t have had to do the school supplies thing, I would have gone too.

I don’t imagine there will be many more opportunities go this year. We’re coming up on fall, and cooler temps.

We will have to at least unload the boat into water because it turns out one of the bolts holding the runner to the trailer shook loose. Unfortunately, this wasn’t discovered until last Wednesday when the hubby and his buddies were trailering the boat after playing on the water.

We had tightened everything down before we went our big trip to Eastern Washington, but apparently, the bolt must have shaken loose after that trip. It’s a long drive, so I’m not surprised.

I better get cleaned up to face the masses for school supplies. Blech. I also need to pick up some OJ and Sprite to go along with our raspberry vodka tonight. I may treat myself to a new pair of jeans as well. I dunno.

I tried on some clothes at the mall yesterday and was absolutely sickened by how I looked in them. I’ve gained way too much weight and am not happy. I’ve realized this for quite some time now and have cut back a lot on portions and snacks, but I have not been exercising with any regularity.

I keep saying I’m going to start, but somehow, I never do. I hope yesterday was real wake up call for me. I think part of reason I haven’t been on the boat after work is how ashamed I am of my body right now. I’m embarrassed to put on my bathing suit.

I’m not whining. It’s all up to me and I realize I’m the only one who can do something about it.

Well, off to clean up.

This may be the only time you will EVAH hear me say I wished I lived in Naperville

My darling daughter leaving me directions, FCM? It is to laugh! Which means no, she didn’t, so please send 'em. What time will you need me there? Early, I assume. <shudder> I’m not going to have a huge stock – probably a dozen or so items – but I’ll be working all winter to try to build more of a stock for next year. Along with knitting for my daughter and for Rosie, of course. Oh, and my mother; I still owe her a couple of hats. Sigh.

My projects today consist of finishing things. There’s one scarf that’s close to done, so I need to get that done, and make a good dent on another one or two, which are both about half done. But I also need to finish this last annoying transcript. I’ve gotten a run of witnesses lately who talk sodamnfastyoucan’tunderstandawordtheysaybecausetheyallruntogether, and it’s making me nuts. I’m overdue for some nice slow talkers!

We’ve still got the house open, but my office is getting awfully stuffy. I really don’t want to close the house up and turn on the air, but I hate sitting here with sweat running down my face while I’m trying to work. Plus I can’t tell if it’s actually because the house is stuffy or because I’m having yet another *(@&# hot flash. Grr. I *hate* *&@# hot flashes!

I keep forgetting to write this so I’ve come back especially to do it.
Yay for Jahdra
for finishing the sock. A friend and I have been following the sock saga with great interest.

Drive-by post. Ambulance duty tonight, and a neighbor died last night, so I went on that call (not Fred; he’s home and raising hell). Sad time, but appreciated in the non-Biblical sense.

I’ll try to post from the station later.

Whew, it really was just me having hot flashes. I got a window fan out of the shed and put it in my office window, and as soon as I had a little air moving on me, I cooled right down. Man, this broken internal thermostat business is Teh Suck.

I 'm back. I actually had a nice time this time–the younger kids were fairly well behaved this time around. Only one screaming meltdown and two fights. Not bad for 4 and 6. Also, my SIL has mellowed somewhat, thank goodness.
Off to write a position paper about Raganathan’s 5 laws of library science. I’ll bet you didn’t even know there were 5!

There were ANTS in the kitchen again! Argh! I went in to make lunch and the sink was black and moving. Ewwww!!! Everything that can’t be boiled was thrown away. Yuck, yuck, yuck. And they’re the biting kind, too. Nasty critters. I think they came in for the water, since it’s been so hot. I’ve sprayed, the landlord’s sprayed and they still keep coming back.

Thanks, zelie! Here’s a picture of it in all its unblocked glory. Even though it’s nice and warm, the gauge is still really loose. I used 0 (2.0mm) needles and still only got 7 stitches/inch on not especially light fingering weight. Sock gauge should be at *least *8 stitches/inch. So it looks like I’m going to have to use sport weight if I want to knit socks. I guess I’ll be using the rest of my fingering weight for lace scarves. I am totally envious of people who can knit socks on size 1 or 2 needles.

It’s nice when families start to mellow out, isn’t it, rigs?

Sorry about your neighbor, Bobbio.

Pretty sock, Jahdra.

Hope the teeth come in soon, Dotty.

I’ve done laundry, had an early dinner, and am watching Eat Drink Man Woman. Need to go run an errand or two, then do some more cleaning and think about what I might need for the trip to Chicago that I don’t already have.

Back after a bit, I’m sure.

GT

Gorgeous yarn you knitted that sock from, Jahdra – what is it? I love the colors!

I used Blue Moon Fiber Arts Socks That Rock (BMFA STR for short) Lightweight in Fire on the Mountain. If I buy any more STR, it will be in medium weight. The yarn is beautiful and nice to knit with, I just can’t get a small enough gauge for socks. I’m going to try 000 (1.5mm) needles and see if that helps. But first I have to find the 000 needles. Of course, instead of $5 I paid for the 0s, 000s are a different brand and will cost $17.

**MamaTigs ** - email sent.

I haven’t decided if I’ve quit for the night. Glazing takes sooooooo long - I don’t know if I’ll get it all done tomorrow. I absolutely have to fire by Thursday, but I’d like to do it tomorrow - don’t think that will happen, tho. Oh well.

Oh, my baby is teething, too. Of course, she’s 22 and it’s her wisdom teeth, but she’s still experiencing discomfort. Poor baby. She can treat it with a stiff drink, so there’s that. And her computer screen seems to have come back. She plugged in her fiance’s spare monitor, and suddenly the laptop screen returned. So that’s good anyway.

It’s still cool and lovely here, and windows remain open. I’m ready for this to be the steady state. Fingers crossed.

Time to cut the chocolate cake - who wants some??

Could I ask a favor of the knitters?

could you all please stop make knitting sound so much like math class? I really want to learn how to knit, but all those numbers are intimidating me. (just lie to me re the math, kay?)

I’m done with ONE paper and have one to go. yay! And I’m off to bike ride–life is too short and nice weekends are too.

We’re back from school supply shopping. I picked up some quick things for the kids to cook, and I did buy myself a pair of new jeans. I found a top I really liked, but I couldn’t find it in my size. Part of my problem is my, er, frontal area, so if the tops are made small, I either gap or get smooshed. This particular top was made small, so my front was very smooshed. Sigh…

That was my exciting day, thus far. I’m still waiting for hubby to get home from wakeboarding.

Ohhh pretty sock!

I like getting new socks. I keep trying to get reasonably thick ones for when I wear my Doc Martens. Sadly, thick stripey socks appear to be incredibly hard to come by. :frowning:

Jahdra, I’ve been wondering. That’s a lovely sock, but how do you manage for shoes?

Damn, missed the edit window.

I meant to mention the sock; it’s quite lovely.

I just got off the phone with my neighbor a few doors down. She’d been smelling a musty odor coming from her vents. As it turns out, there was water underneath her house. The builder (or a subcontractor) didn’t seal one of the pipes. He must have run out of the sealer and just quit right there. The portion of pipe was still lying there, and the contractor had put a can under the pipe. Yeah, that’s some real craftsmanship right there.

Um, we’ve been living in these houses for FOUR years now. Our neighbors pumped out 120 gallons from underneath their house. Since it was grey water, they couldn’t just dump it down the drains in the street, so had to empty it bucketful by bucketful into the toilets and flush it. This was after putting the pipe portion on and sealing it.

So, now I’m all paranoid because several of our neighbors have had various problems with their homes and one of them is noticing the same odor from her vents. I guess we’re going to have to crawl under our house to make sure we’re not suffering from the same problem. Dammit.

One of my neighbors literally had the flooring in her kitchen peel up. This was the least of her problems. There were several other problems with her house too, and after much fighting with the contractor, she managed to get him out here to fix the stuff. He wasn’t happy and he let her know it.

I am hoping against hope that I don’t have any issues with my house. Mine was the first one built, and it was originally built so the builder’s daughter would buy it. She decided it was too much house, and opted for a smaller one in the development. So, I’m hoping the builder took a little more care with this house.

Ugh, I’m not looking forward to telling my husband about this.

BBBobbio sorry to hear about your neighbor.]. Your neighbor and his family are in my thoughts and prayers.

Taters, yuck on the housing problems for your neighbors. I’m bettin’ that since the contractor/builder was buildin’ your house for his daughter you won’t have the same problems. Fingers crossed.

Jah cool lookin’ sock! I have some of those slipper sock things I lurve to wear in the winter. A pair like that would be so jake!

Moooooom see, I told ya tellin’ FCD no cake til he’s had breakfast would work!

Sorry I ain’t posted before now. Been a lazy afternoon turnin’ into evenin’ here at da cave. Basically we’ve lazed around doin’ nuttin’ except drink some bloody marys. Oh and I did grill the dawgs tonight which we had with BMs and Cheetos[sup]TM[/sup] cheesey poofs. See, I promised we’d uncooth ourselves after yesterday’s oh so adult, suave, cooth and sophisticated snackin’.

The brunch today was great! She was so happy! Our Priest did an especially jake thing during the announcements this morning. He invited everyone to stay after services for brunch and to continue in the celebration of Albeeeny mom’s birthday. This was accompainied by a clap from the congregation. Episcopalians clappin’ in church is a biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiig thing! That does not happen often. Anywho she was tickled. At brunch the kiddies sang happy birthday to her, followed by everybody else joinin’ in singin’. If anybody ever could have burst from pride it would have been her! Plus, I didn’t think she ever would stop huggin’ ACBG and me this mornin’ when she got there and saw the flowers. We helped her take the flowers out after all the festivities today and place ‘em on her husband’s grave which is what she wanted to do. There were tears in a couple burly bears’ eyes while we were doin’ that. Oh and both of her sons (they live a ways away so they weren’t here but that’s jake cause both of 'em visit her several times a year) called her to wish her happy birthday and one of 'em called da cave a little while ago to say thanks for what was done for her today. That meant a lot to me. They’re good guys and the reason she does not live near them is her choice. She wants to live around here as long as she can cause this is home for her. Can’t blame her for that.

Wow, that was a big ol’ ramble, huh?

Ok, so who’s up for tomorrow?

rigs, of *course *there’s no math in knitting! [sub]Must. Keep. Straight. Face. Bwahahaha![/sub] It’s mostly counting, really. And addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, with a bit of geometry. But mostly counting. Lots of knitters will confess to being math-phobic. Ususally after they’ve shown you their latest Aran/Fair Isle/lace project. Honestly, though, if you’re knitting from a pattern, the math has all been done for you. It’s only when you start designing your own stuff that you need to be able to do the math and by then, it won’t be math, it’ll be knitting.

Romola Des Loups, that’s part of the gauge problem I’m having. I can’t get the stitches fine enough, even though I’m knitting on tiny needles, that I can wear the socks in shoes. These will be bed socks. Most knitters wear their fancy socks around the house or in sandals or clogs, since stitch patterns over the instep tend to be uncomfortable when worn with shoes. Socks to be worn in shoes will likely be plain knitting (stockinette) in the foot portion. For zelie’s boot socks, I’d use a worsted weight or double up sock or sport weight. Socks that size are much faster to knit, since you’re using larger needles and thicker yarn. Plus, you can get self-striping yarn, so you don’t have to change the yarn yourself. For example, here’s a starter sock kit for boot socks in stripes. Another striped sock kit.

swampy, what a great thing you all did!
