Grab a leaf rake in the MMP!

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s 37 degrees ferret height out. Brrrr.

Alex Catt likes belly rubs, but she’s the reincarnation of Nelly K. Beagle, so dog mentality.

Morning, mumpers! First visit to the MMP this week, stuff has been crazier than a crazy thing. It’s 10c/51f with a predicted high of 14c/58f and cloudy which is pretty accurate although there’s some blue sky outside my window. Weather app says “All of the clouds can go and fuck all the way off” which they might be doing, hence the blue sky.

I have read little and retained less, irk is being particularly irksome at the moment as we are starting exam planning and apparently that’s my thing now as I have been designated exams and assessment lead for our School. Woo and hoo, right?

I would love to be able to retire and become a drain on society but sadly, I have to wait for the weekend for my little bit of slothage.

As for the subject of the MMP, we have no trees in our garden but we are surrounded by them so there are lots of leaves out on the road which blow onto our property so I just gather them up and put them in the bin. If there were enough and it was a problem, they’d get bagged up to go to the recycling centre which does take garden waste, but there’s not enough of them for that. The biggest problem is that they clog up the drains out on the road because the council doesn’t have the capacity to clear them all.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 35 (BRRR!) Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 64 and N.O.S. for the day. Today we shall procure provisions. Other than that, a day of high sloth, nappage, and general overall uselessness is in store. Sup shall be soup and cornbread just like yestiddy.

Nellie glad SIL is better. I’ve had bouts of vertigo and it is no fun at all! I have wide feet as well, so I know the joy of findin’ the right fit in shoes.

JtC I love the GG stories as well. I have voted by mail but both of us prefer in person votin. We have been known to early vote, but unless there is a reason to go to da ‘Burg, we wait until election day itself and go vote at our local precinct which is just over a mile away from da cave. We go mid to late mornin’ and rarely have we encountered much of a line, if any at all that time a day. Retirement has its advantages.

Oopsie yay for gettin’ a window! Bein’ able to see out and get some sunlight while in the orifice is nice.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummu. Then, alas, alack, and bother, I suppose I must needs purtify and don attire appropriate for bein’ amongst the great unwashed. Life can be so intolerable at times!

Happy Hump Day Y’all!

I think this is a good idea. You may be the best driving teacher in the world, but the dynamic changes when it’s your own kid. That, of course, is my totally unprofessional, inexperienced opinion. But it may help preserve what sanity you have left.

Do dogs know? Or care? Really? We’ve had 2 adopted dogs and 2 foundlings, and we named them all, not knowing what 3 of them had been called anyway. They all adjusted. As long as they’re fed and get skritches, I’m pretty sure they don’t care what you call them. Can’t we all say that about ourselves? :grinning:

FWIW, Higgs also gets called Higlet, pupper, pupster, and YOU-BAD-DOG!! and she knows who we mean…

I don’t mind terlit duty, provided those who use it are civilized. Bad aimers or hoverers or just-plain-slobs should have to use a bucket in the back 40. Also those who are too lazy to pick up TP that they may drop on the floor. Honestly, in all our treks and multiple rest stops, I am constantly amazed that so many people have no problem leaving TP on the floor because they’re too lazy to pick it up and drop it in the terlit… SMH

???

We belong to 2 credit unions - one account was opened in 1983 (our main account) and the other is maybe 10 years old or so (opened locally) and we’ve been very happy with both. I honestly can’t recall the last time we had a bank account.

I forgot to request mail-in ballots, but next week, early voting starts at our VFD, so we’ll mosey over there and take care of business. This is a hugely red county, but we’ll add to the blue for the state-wide offices anyway. The Rep Gov nominee is backed by the Orange One - but even our current Rep Gov doesn’t endorse him - the guy is a whacko. I expect he’s already saying the election is rigged.

Do you get a tiara or a wand or something else to designate the role? Even a custom made T-shirt? Or a name tag??

It was 36° when I let Higgs out. It may get equally cold tonight, then creep into the low 40s for the next week or so. I need to monitor the temps so I know when to bring in my spider plants. Then I need to figure out where I’ll put them. They need a window, but I need to keep them away from Taz, since he eats the leaves, them pukes them up. Stoopit cat…

FCD has left for his folks’ place. FIL is seeing an oral surgeon this morning and the paperwork requires a listing of all his meds. It’s a big list, so that’s what my sweetie will compile before they leave. I need to call the lawyer who did our wills and POA and make an appt so FCD can get POA for his folks, and to find out if they need to update theirs since they no longer live in FL.

The Tobester will be here in half an hour or so. He took a really good nap yesterday - here’s hoping for the same today.

Happy Wednesday!!

Mornin’ everyone.

It’s currently 45 degrees with an expected high of 69 and partly cloudy to mostly cloudy skies. They are still threatening us with rain over the weekend, but we shall see. I sure hope so. All these fires are awful, and I’m sick of the hazy air and bad air quality. I feel bad for those that live right next to them. I have one just 20 miles away and so far, it’s not nearly as big as Bolt Creek or the one that Chef mentioned, but Bolt Creek and Goat Rocks fires have really messed with the air quality here. There are a total of 14 wildfires burning in this state right now.

Yesterday, I felt as though this crud was finally going to start clearing up. It’s back with a vengeance today, along with malaise, running eyes, nose, and constant sneezing. Jaysus, Mary, and Joseph! My husband caught it too, so I wonder if we’re just reinfecting each other. I plan to knock myself out with Nyquil in a bit and fall back into bed. I’ve already emailed in. I’ve got plenty of leave and nothing that needs to be done today. I worked yesterday, but everybody I talked to said I sounded awful. Here I thought I sounded much better than I had for well over a week. But, the sinuses had stopped plugging and producing copious amounts of stuff, so I thought I was finally on the road to recovery. Today, I feel like I’m almost back to square one. I hope this is just some last gasp for this crud and that tomorrow I will be better and functional.

I kind of miss voting in person, but do love the convenience of mail-in ballots. I usually drop both mine and my husband’s ballots off though, since it seems there are always issues with postal boxes around election time. I don’t miss how they kept moving my polling station around every year, though. That was sort of a PITA, especially since some of the places they chose were small, and we were lined up outside in the cold November rain to vote.

Congrats on your new role, boofae!

I’m glad things turned out alright for your sis, nellie. I hope the follow-up goes well.

I hope you all have a terrific day!

Morning everyone. Not much here, it’s 39F (in TX no less). Having coffee via our new coffeemaker!
Yaaay! Preparing to load up the camper and head to the lake for a week. Do retirees have “vacations”? Or do we just have “trips”? The experts need to weigh in on this important subject.

And, recalling reason #32768 why I hated work so much… In the 90s, I got assigned a desk in a lab which had a few windows. Due to luck and geometry, I got a window right beside my desk. Windowed offices were almost unheard of, and never for the rank and file.

A few weeks later, a minor VP touring the lab saw the window and freaked. As is written in the great book of management rules, peasants must be kept in their place at all costs – so facilities showed up and built a wooden barrier, specifically to block “my” window. They spent extra money to placate a spiteful and jealous manager by building a wall, just to put me in my place. Amazing, isn’t it?

None of the above, although I think I at least deserve my own battle unicorn!

Morning all. Slept in until after 7am and when I emerged from the comforter it felt a bit chilly–household temp was 64F! (outside it was 33F). So heat is turned on and the room space heater is pumping out hot air, so hopefully it’ll get comfortable soon. Getting to 60F today and warming back up to the 70’s by the weekend.

Have an appointment with my Edward Jones financial manager, not much to discuss, I’ve getting more money now than when I was working and still putting a lot in savings each year, so don’t really need to get more money,I just want to spend what I got these next 20 years or so.

Yanker, sounds like some bosses I remember; I suspect we all have had them…petty litte (fecal matters).

Taters, been lucky the past few years in not catching any crud (mostly from living alone I think), but have been there and falling back in bed is the best thing you can do. Hope you do get to feeling better.

I still vote in person, usually not very busy when I go in the mid-afternoon, but being good old progressive Ali-bama, we might get mail voting sometime this century…

Boo fae, the problem with competence (which you have in droves) is that you keep getting the tough assignments. Hang in there.

Can’t speak as a cat expert, but the last cat whose belly I scratched left tooth marks that drew blood.

And stinking to high heaven, I suspect…

nellie, glad the docs didn’t find much wrong with SIL and hopefully the PT will take care of it.

Have Savings with my Credit Union and Checking with a local bank, and that is the limits of my diverse banking.

OK, need to break fast and get ready for my appointment (putting on the Good Shoes). Take care all.

Like this

You can always buy me a present… if it’ll help you out.

The kidlet has been bottled and is now napping. My Dr office called to change my appointment to next month (dammit) and I called our lawyer to make an appt for the inlaws to get their POA’s updated. I think I’ve earned a little reading time while it’s quiet.

Happy Hump Day!

Do y’all want the good news first or the bad news first?

The bad news is I hit a deer this morning. The little voice in my head said, shouldn’t you have your high beams on? I said, no, I don’t need them. I can see just fine.
Always listen to that little voice.

The good news is Not so much as a scratch on my truck, or at least nothing anybody can see, other than fur, yet.

Cold morning at the park, 41 degrees. It felt colder than yesterday.
We got there early, 615, because Lily went this morning. We were going to leave at 730, since everybody was cold. Of course, that is when the dogs started playing, so we didn’t leave until 750.

My son got out at 4 this morning. I had gone to bed before 9, so it wasn’t too rough.
He’s not happy though, he is being trained for a different job and he hates it.
Lily mom is his boss, well actually his boss’s boss. She called in to see what time my son was getting off, because as she told his boss, I’m friends with Sah-son’s mother and I want to know if he is getting off early so I know if she can meet me at the park in the morning.
Fo some reason that just cracked me up.
She knew my son was being trained for a different job, and she and his boss both said he is going to hate it. She hates that job he is doing, so she gets why my son hates it, but too bad, because he has to learn everything.
I told my son, the more you know the more valuable you are. Also, you can’t move into supervisory positions unless you know the work. I figure he will never apply anywhere else, and when I die, he is going to need to make more money.

So, I’m trying to catch up, but y’all are so very very busy

Sausage patty and over-easy egg on buttered toast for breakfast. Sounds good, eh? Yessssss…!

Only we’re out of eggs, so I’m having a Vegemite & cheddar sandwich instead. Yum. But not as yummy as sausage and egg on toast would have been this chilly morning.

I’m sure my Prius would not have withstood the collision so well. I’m glad I was able to stop.

If I ruled the universe, you would have it! :unicorn:

sari I’m glad you’re ok! Frickin’ deer. There’s always a few more lurking on the side after the first one crosses. It’s like they want to get hit.

The house funded and is closed. We are just waiting for title to record. We should get the house tomorrow. I am completely freaked out by the move now, but we’ll get through that too.

Hugs to all and Happy Wednesday!

Little garbage disposal here has had peas and carrots and peaches and cheerios. What an appetite! This after 8oz of formula earlier. I dread his teenage stomach!!! :open_mouth:

FIL has been hallucinating badly today. He asked FCD who MIL was and why she was sleeping with him. It’s not good. Makes me contemplate the value of keeping people alive after a certain point. He has a pulse, but he’s become a different person. So sad.

I am having a very annoying week. OnTrac claims my package in transit lacked my apartment number (funny how that info IS on my accounts at Bath & Body Works and at PayPal), and they have “customer service” that makes FedYecchs look good. Maintenance STILL hasn’t been able to get to my dryer, which is now taking FOUR runs to get stuff dry (nice manager assures me the staff member with appropriate equipment is here today and will be in touch at some point in the day).

At least Instacart’s been doing their job well, and medical appointment-making is functional (doctor was a bit late today on our phone visit, but I can deal. I know she has other patients).

Now if the cats would calm down… Allie has a serious case of the crankies. Buddy isn’t happy about that.

Heaving went OK. I went to check on my glasses. Still not ready. Apparently with mmy mixed weird prescriptions and the grind needed, progressives ain’t happeing. I get to get the lined kind, like some sort of 20th Century fossil < waves at FCM >. Heck the prescrition is so weird the computer system keeps kicking it out. But I ened up paying $65 less.

Congrats!

Glad the car and you are OK, sari.

little monopoly reward money,. They can be earned for things like showing up on time, and can be redeemed at the [Tennessee Ernie Ford]company store[/Tennessee Ernie Ford] for t-shirts and such. Named after the Division head.

In the time-honored tradition of jilted women everywhere, I got drunk and cut my own hair.

In my defense, it was getting really long & the ends were ragged.
Also in my defense, at least I didn’t drunkenly attempt bangs. (I’ve known - and seen - women who’ve tried. Bless their hearts.)

But my ponytail is so short now!

Need to deposit my paycheck. At least I got paid, if I can’t get … { ahem }

That’s awful. I am so sorry you & your family are dealing with this.

Afternoon all. Been a busy morning, dressed and put air in my tires (a bargain at .75 cents) but the on-board computer is still complaining that I didn’t fill them to 36psi (3 are at 35psi and the other at 34). Ah well, may have to go out and spend some more change. Then met with the Edward D. Jones guy, he’s trying to convince me to move my TSP into CD’s and other investments, problem is I really don’t need any increase in the money I’ve got coming in, and am not motivated by greed (well, hardly ever). Next did a little shopping and decided to eat out at Eggs Up, so now waiting for my digestive track to assimilate it before going swimming, no soccer today so I can be fashionably late to the gym.

Shoe, imagine your hair looks nice, just be happy you have it to trim…unlike balding me.

doggio, long as you have company money for it, at least you don’t owe your soul to them (but you never know…).

That is what scares me the most in growing older.

Sunny, congrats on the closing!! Moving will be easier (not easy, just easier).

Sari, glad you and car are ok. Any free venison?? And kid needs to grow and expand some, so good on extra training.

OK, getting about time to dress for backstroking through the pool for 30 minutes, all y’all take care.

Our neighbors have a giant maple tree almost on the property line and we get a huge load of leaves in the fall, but not yet. One of our neighbors across the street takes them to mulch in his garden, so we just bag them up and carry them over there. Still gotta bag ‘em however. We also have a couple of Black Gum trees, nasty things, that we’re gonna cut down. And a scraggly little pear tree which we’re keeping for the deers’ sake. (They eats them)

We have discovered that the dented food store (Grocery Outlet) sells sausage patties that are almost the exact right size for breakfast sammiches, English muffin wise. That’s what we had for brekkies today.

I got the first coat of paint on the new basement doors yesterday, but crawling around on my knees to paint the bottoms wrecked my back. I want to put another coat on today while it’s still warm enough but I’ll need to be more careful.

While I was reading through I commented in my head as I went, but of course, I’ve forgotten what I said. I could go back and read through again but don’t have time. I do remember one thing though: Shoe, i wish you had been around that winter I spent in Michigan 50 years ago.

That’s enuff from me.

I’ve been feeling ‘frumpy’, as mi esposa would say. I was dragging Saturday after my vaccinations, but felt butter Sunday. Yesterday afternoon I was feeling a bit ‘blah’ on the way home from Burien. It was very smoky from there, all the way home. I just got back from my walk. I wore a KN-95 mask. It’s so smoky, I couldn’t see Point Whitehorn or Birch Point from the berm. I’m feeling a little less ‘frumpy’ after my exercise. My mask did not turn grey.

We’re keeping the cats indoors as much as they’ll stand, only letting them into the catio for short periods. I’ll be glad when all of this smoke goes away.
