Grab a leaf rake in the MMP!

:scream: :cold_sweat:

It’s a law.

I had a turkey try to attack my car multiple times the other day. It decided to cross the road ahead of me. I honked and it was on. Silly bird.

I need to start doing things for this move. Ugh. Just ugh.

Hugs to everyone. Happy Tuesday.

I sort of forget that baseball exists, until the Yankees get in the postseason. Then my Book of Faces explodes with Yankee pictures - all from one guy, who posted a picture from last night’s rain delay.

JtC, years ago there was a post on snopes’ message board about someone bathing a cat. They thought it would be a good idea to bathe the cat, in the shower, and they were naked. I wish it was still online, because I had tears in my eyes from laughter. I am glad to read that you had a different method. And I always enjoy stories about the gormless one.

Can I work with Boo? I got the baking down, need to improve my corners.

I need to stop looking drooling over the Chemex website. Don’t have space for more pretties. Maybe I’ll set that as a reward for getting rid of some other stuff.

For now, time to shut down and watch Netflix. Not quite used to it getting dark before 7pm. :frowning:

Afternoon all. Cycled off 500 calories and promptly snacked them back on. Fixed the phone problem since I hadn’t plugged my modem back into my new multi-plug box. At least it was quiet for awhile (15 minutes after I got it working I got a call to donate to a organization…)

flyboy, animals don;t know cars are dangerous until they get hit by on–and since most don’t survive the experience, it’s not passed on. Such is life. Glad the deer (and parts fo your car) survived unscathed.

OK, about 2 hours and I’ll need to get ready for soccer in 50F temperatures. Take care all.

The grands have been returned to their mom. I steamed some rice, and I’m going to use the leftover chicken to make chicken and rice and gravy, maybe green beans on the side.

Other than that, chillage shall reign. Thus endeth Tuesday…

Good to see you emily!

Three of my four coffee brewing methods (French press, espresso pot and percolator) can be used over a campfire, on a grill or propane stove. I also have a tea kettle that can be used in those places for the French press or a pot of tea, as well. Like doggio, I have a hand grinder, even though I !@#$% every time I have to use it. I’m good for coffee or tea in the event of no power for a while.

Irked, came home, walked the dog and et. Such excitement! It’s supposed to freeze tonight, likely breaking a record for the date. By the weekend, it should be up to the sixties and low seventies. I hope so, since SIL and I are planning to wander down around Monteagle to leaf peep.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Happy Toosday!

Chilly 36 degrees at the park.
I had gloves on, but my hands got cold anyway.

Barky mom is away for a week, so there will be peace for a while.

Today has been quiet.
I haven’t gotten my taxes done yet, but a tax preparer called me this morning and we will meet up Friday morning. I already paid a big chunk of money, if getting the forms a few days late is a problem, well they can just KMA.
I’ve been trying to find somebody for weeks and nobody ever calls back.

I called the grocery store about the screwed-up order. They were very concerned, because there is a safeguard in place that they can’t miss scanning items. The manager thanked me for my honesty, but it is their mistake, so I guess I am getting the ground beef for free. I told him about the chicken tenders too, and he said that it might have been a sale. That is one hell of a sale when you get a family pack of chicken tenders for $1.77.
Well, it’s his problem to deal with now, not mine.

My son doesn’t have to go to driving school because he went when he was 18. The MVA has the certificate on file, and they don’t expire. I think it’d be a good idea to go again, but all the class schedules conflict with his irk hours. He has enough vacation time that he could go in late every night, but I don’t know how the boss would feel about it.
He only has to log 14 hours of driving, 3 of those have to be at night. That is a weird number of hours. If you are under 25, you have to log 60 hours. He still has to wait 45 days to take the driving test. I expect we will do a lot more than 14 hours.
He’s dragging his feet to start driving, but I’m going to drag him out soon. We’ll start off in a parking lot and let him get the feel of it before we hit the road. The parking lot where he irks is HUGE, and only about a quarter of it is used. Lots of space with nothing to hit.
Unless a deer jumps out in front of us. They are all over the place out there.

I’m thinking of paying for a few driving sessions with the driving school. They are braver than I am.

It would be a nice thing to do Nellie, to have a place like that. I’d take you up on the offer.
I keep chipping away at the stuff I have to do. Eventually I’ll get there.

Cerby comes for sure on Thorsday morning. We’ll have time for the park before he gets here, which will take the edge off my dogs. My son doesn’t want to change his name, he thinks it’s rude to change it and Cerby will have to make enough adjustments without us changing his name too.
We’ll talk about it, because I really don’t like his name.

I always enjoy the GG stories.
Adam has been a bit of a pain lately. He wants me to pet him, but he wants me to bend over to do it. I tell him no, if you want me to pet you, you have to let me hold you. Bending over is not comfortable at my age.

I got a text from my brother that my sister-in-law was taken to the ER by ambulance this morning. She felt dizzy and weak, and the EMT’s said her BP was very high. After tests, the doc said he thinks vertigo caused the symptoms and high BP. She’s on meds now for the vertigo. I didn’t know it could cause high BP. ??? I think she’s really nervous about the situation with her oral health and her diabetes, so maybe that’s a factor?

Hey, all help is welcome at the Mumper Home for the Sick and Tired! You’re such good cooks, people will be feigning illness so they can get in to recuperate. (“My doctor said it was the worst hangnail he’d ever seen!”) Boo, we’ll find an assistant corner-miterer so youdon’t have to do all the work. Now. Who wants to scrub toilets?

Well, see, then we put 'em on a “special diet” and cut off the likker supply.

Re: deer, after living in Deer Central (400+ deer within the town limits alone) so long, I’ve come to the firm conclusion that deer are fond of double-dog-daring each other. “Go on, Frankie, ya wuss! That pickup ain’t goin’ that fast!” Then when Frankie makes it across, all the others decide they might as well go, too. If Frankie doesn’t make it, they think, “Geez, I thought Frankie was faster than that. I know I am! Hey, who wants to double-dog dare ME?”

Taters, you could be our first guest! Oy, though, that doesn’t sound like garden variety crud to me, more like the muscle-flexing truck farm variety. I mean, when you have to lie down on the bathroom floor…Anyway, I hope it dries up and exits pronto.

Yank, I loved the tale of derring-do!

{{{Butters}}}}

Howdy Y’all! We et some good soup and cornbread! We shall have both again tomorrow and the rest of the soup is in containers in da freezer for later use. Other than that the usual sloth, nappage, and general overall uselessness were acomplished. Oh, and laundry got accomplished.

Sunny wild turkeys are fierce.

Taters hope you’re feelin’ better.

Nellie I think we’d have to draw straws to see who gets terlet duty.

When we leave the dog park around twilight, I have to watch for the deer. The dog park is on the back side of one of our bigger parks with woods and hiking trails, so the deer are plentiful.

The Yankees are American League Championship Series (ALCS)-bound! Woot!

(For those who don’t know: the ALCS will determine who from the American League will go on to the World Series.)

(For those who don’t care: :stuck_out_tongue: )

In other news, I actually like my new cubicle at work better than my old office. Partly because I have more desktop/work space in the cubicle, but the biggest reason is one word: windows. The new suite has windows! A whole wall of ‘em! Not only was my old office an interior room, it was inside a larger suite that also had no windows. I was able to snag the corner cubicle I’d noted on the floorplan: there are windows to my back, and it has a bit more space than the others. All in all it’s a much more pleasant room to work in. I still won’t be there often, but I might be more inclined to go in from time to time just for a change of scenery even if I don’t think anyone else will be in the suite.

nellie, I hope your SIL is better soon!

Soooooo…is he single?

(kidding!!)

My $0.02 is that your best bet is to stick with something that rhymes and has the same number of syllables. The dog won’t know “Cerby” from “Turby” (or “Herbie,” etc.), but I tend to agree that a completely different name might be a bit tougher on the pup. Not impossible or mean or anything, though — and, basically, if you’re taking care of him, you can call him whatever you want.

Evening all. Soccer has been practiced and paperwork sent home (my beard has less than 5 days to live). It’s 44F right now outside and will get below freezing tonight. Then it is supposed to warm back up into the 70’s; we’ll see.

Sari, if you’re going to be the primary caretaker of said dog, you get to name him, IMHO. Dogs are pretty adaptable. And Sah-son needs to get on-course with the driving; he can’t spend hos whole life depending on you (unless he moves to some European city with proper public transport).

nellie, hope Sis-In-Law is ok, and I’ve never heard of vertigo leading to High Blood pressure…

OK, may turn the heat on for a bit prior to bedtime, then let it cool down overnight while I’m under the comforter. Take care all.

Up from nap time. Having a Manhattan with my Redneck Stir fry tonight. We have a Freeze Warning. I guess I can wear my new UPS hoodie i got with my Donna Dollars in the morning.

Oddly enough, the power company is cutting power for a couple hours Thursday morning, for tree trimming. At least it’s post coffee time.

Frankie got nailed a 1/4 mile up from my apartment. Ironically, it was across the street from the EMS station. < insert VBob Bambilance story here >

Especially the 101 version.

Bishop-> Gordie(who also answers to “Princess Pretty Paws”)

All of our cats except GG have been strays. They all had names at one time in their lives but quickly learned to ignore their new names just like their old ones. It is really annoying to call GG’s name and watch his big ear swivel around in my direction while he considers if it is important enough to open his eyes. VBC will at least open her eyes momentarily to see if I have food in my hands.

I’m really glad you guys aren’t tired of GG stories, he is quite the entertaining kitty. He is a magnificent cat, his shiny black fur flows and ripples when he runs and his posture is always exceptional. Then you look into his stunning big golden eyes to see his two brain cells randomly bouncing around his skull and realize that it is a very good thing that he is a spoiled housecat because he wouldn’t last one night outside.

We used to use the Credit Union in town, but when we retired we thought we would like to do our banking closer. We were happy with our new closer bank for a while but now they are charging fees for everything, no matter how much you have in your accounts, and we have some CDs maturing at the end of the month so hubs wanted to go back to the Credit Union. We did that today.

I have to say I was amazed at how easy it was to change my social security and retirement payments to our new (old) bank. I’ve already gotten conformations from all four entities saying that my changes were going to happen when I wanted them to happen.

I have a few bucks in stocks that are falling faster than an out of favor oligarch and inspired by the ease of changing banks and direct deposits, I yanked out some of those few remaining pennies and bought my yearly limit of series I savings bonds because you can’t lose money on them like you can on stocks.

That transaction also happened so easily that now I am worried.

While we were in town we went to a small Mexican place for supper. Our server was as sweet and accommodating as she could possibly be, but she was wearing way too much perfume. I could taste it every time she got close and because we were her only customers, she checked on us often. Hubs didn’t notice. I don’t get it, Hubs hasn’t smoked tobacco for over 25 years and I only quit a couple of years ago. His sniffer should work much better than mine.

I finally got to the gym. My brother called just after I got there, so I walked the lobby while I got the scoop. the ER docs said vertigo can indeed cause high BP. They’re confident the vertigo will be controlled by meds and, possibly, PT. (My brother had vertigo a year or so ago, and 20 minutes of PT cured it.) Her EKG, however, showed a persistent inverted T something-or-other, so that will need to be followed up. That’s not related to the vertigo, though. Thank you all SO much for your kindness.

In other news, I bit the bullet and ordered new athletic shoes today. Due to my extra-wide feet (My dad was Paul Bunion.), I can’t get cheap sneaks, and due to all that walking, I wear out shoes fast–as in within 3 months.

Oopsie, yay on getting a window! My classroom had one huge window, but due to the fact the blinds were nearly impossible to close once opened, I left them closed. (When open, the sun blinded me.) In winter, it was dark when I arrived and dark when I left. When the kids asked why I wouldn’t open the blinds, I’d say, “Because there’s a free world out there, and I don’t want to remind you you’re not in it.”

Nothing more comforting!

Gordie’s original name was Bishop? Did he live in a vicarage or something? He must thank you daily for his new moniker.

It hasn’t been the deer gettin’ hit around here lately. Been skunks. On my last trip to tha shop, +/- 15 miles, I saw 8 skunks, about 4 either chips or squirrels (hard to tell at 55) and one possum.

JtC What a beautiful and poetic description of a muddle-headed cat.

Dunno. I do know I was owner #3, and he was only 9 months old when I adopted him.

Sorry for another long reply, I had to stop posting because of GG drama and hit reply because you never know when your comp will forget what it was supposed to be doing.

Our Chewy orders come with wonderful brown crinkly paper included. We always put a good sized piece on the floor for the cats. A piece of crinkly paper got moved outside the door of my hobby room and then got pushed under the door while VBC was getting her dinner because The Paw was flailing around trying to reach her bowl. The crinkly paper got pushed between the door and the wall and forgotten about. I got cold and pushed the door half way closed so GG could still come in because he still doesn’t grok doors. GG brushed against the door on his way in, the crinkle paper got pushed between the opening door and wall and crinkled. GG spun around in a split second and landed in the classic back arched fluffed pose, but when GG does it he FLUFFS!!! I laugh. Hubs thinks I’m going to give GG a complex.

I just looked at GG and considered doing such a thing. The answer was a very solid NO!

I read this to Hubs while we were waiting at the bank. He laughed and said he bets you will never be that rude again!

Can you put a piece of fleece or your favorite shirt on the arm of your chair? Sometimes ours will start jumping to a surface they like to get pettings.

That is so kind of you to say, I do love the little goofball

Hurray for windows! I always missed working without windows, I’m glad you have them Oopsie!

Before I retired, I got two hours off every election to vote, so of course I left work early and voted in person. Now that I’m retired and it is the age of COVID, I like to vote by mail. Hubs didn’t get time off to vote so did opt for mail in while he was working. Now that he can walk in to vote without losing money, that is what he wants to do.

On the way to town, I asked him to stop at a ballot box so I could vote (I’ve never trusted the post office with my ballot) and he grumped at me for a while because suddenly mail in ballots aren’t safe. You guys should be so proud of me, I didn’t cane him when we got to the bank because I managed to remember about those pesky security cameras.

I miss voting in person, but what the heck. At least I get to vote. I should start studying now instead of waiting until the night before the final exam voting day.

I thought cat lovers would find this article interesting. It’s about cat behavior that shows affection.

Because of their evolutionary ancestry, domestic cats are, by their nature, more independent than dogs. The wild ancestors of our cats didn’t live in social groups as canines do. However, during the process of domestication, cats developed the ability to form social relationships not just with other cats, but also with people. While they may not rely upon people to feel safe as dogs do, many cats show affection towards their guardians and seem to [highly value the company of thei
Their attachment to humans is partly influenced by their experiences of being handled by people as a kitten.r human companions](https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0376635716303424).

So I thought, for instance, that rubbing their heads (scent glands) against us meant they’re marking us as theirs. Turns out they do this with familiar, comforting objects/people. Also, as a dog person, I’m used to showing the belly to say, “Belly rubs, please,” but when cats do it, they’re showing trust but don’t like to be petted there. Huh.

Can’t say that’s an absolute. Felix (RB) loved tummy rubs and would ask for them. Allie and Buddy both seem to usually at least be tolerant (occasional irritated reaction, but mostly at least putting up with human antics).

This is why I like mail in voting, I have the ballot on my desk, looking at me, just waiting for me to sit my butt down and think about it, PLUS time limit. I am not ashamed to say that it took me over two weeks to do my research.

As a self-proclaimed cat expert, I am going to say that the basic premise of that article is wrong. Humans did not domesticate cats. When humans started storing grain, they bred dogs to hunt rats, they didn’t need cats for that.

Cats came to human villages because humans made yummy garbage and then figured out how to domesticate humans. Dogs, cows, horses, all of them had uses and cats never had a use, they were just there to be worshiped.

GG loves belly rubs, but he is a bit of a failure as a cat.
